Any recent hacked accounts from Southperry users?
Eosian Wrote:Spidey doesn't think it will, but they're going to have write a new login sequence for this so there's a good chance it may.

BombsAway Wrote:Well I don't know if the FBI would service a 15 year old but I can't see why they would. The reason you need to contact them is because this constitutes a cyber crime and the NX you lost represents real money. Essentially you lost $200ish and it needs to be brought to the attention of the proper authorities so that 1. Nexon will "man up" and 2. so the offenders will be more likely to be brought to justice.

although it would be delightful to revenge those who hacked me, i think it'd be too much trouble with slim chance of getting anything back. plus i have a strange fear of the police.

If you're not going to do anything about it then don't complain. You've got a chance to do the right thing and you're going to let it pass due to some ridiculous irrational fear? The FBI isn't going to come investigate your house or anything, you'd just be submitting a short report detailing how much money you lost and verifying that your security was fine.

It's an online complaint form, not an interview and strip search.

It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

well i live in canada so i dont think FBI exists here? also, i'd do it if was online but i'd really prefer not to if i'd have to go into the police station or talk over the phone, etc.

Please read your PM's, you're continuing to post about things you've already been given answers to.

Do it, or do not. Subject is closed because it's been too many pointless posts already.

Fumni Wrote:I'll test it in 7 hours. Let's hope not, because again, we all know it's going to be a while before Nexon even fixes this, let alone admits there was a problem. We players (the few of us that haven't been completely wiped) have no defenses agianst this new hack.

Yeah, first thing I'm doing is testing it as well. I don't believe this will kill my lock, because aren't other games launched with the website method? You use the password at all on the site, and Nexon seems lazy ennough to leave the original login programming untouched, simply adding a new button on their site that launches MS. The new button itself will of course only work if you're already logged in on Nexon.net.

If someone writes anything more on the LA times deal, why not include how Nexon went from Global to NA with Maple and from then been providing less service for us in say Europe. Combined with the other issues it just makes Nexon look worse, so why not use this card too?

Because it's not a card. They don't need to provide Europeans with service, that's what EMS is for.

@Steve - OTC: I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet in the thread, its late and I'm lazy. However, for those of you needing to change your passwords, I recommend reading up on how to use a Linux Live CD to change your password - although this would affect the cases of those who are or suspect that they are keylogged, it is an additional security measure that I value highly and absolutely recommend.

Security professionals also recommend using these Live CDs to manage online banking, and other sensitive information that you deal with online.

I've actually done this, however I question the value of doing so.
1-Very few of the hacking victoms ever reported finding a keylogger on their computer.
2-Using this method makes changing your password a pain; for me at least a 10 minute job rather than 1 or 2 minute, because you have to reboot twice, and booting from CD is sloooow.
3-The bare-bones Firefox that comes with Linux could be more susceptable to on-line attacks that the usual Firefox with Noscript addon for all we know.

Out of curiosity, what did you e-mail to the reporters?

Mostly emphasized how terrible their security is and that three months into this situation Nexon has done nothing to make our personal information any safer.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ran something about Nexon not providing good security. It's the kind of scandal-esque thing that sells. And if Nexon gets into the public news about this, they're sure to do something.

Might as well dual boot Linux/UNIX. I've been running Ubuntu for the past year and it's serving me nicely - everything's free - so long as you know what you're doing and how to set it up. Windows for games, Ubuntu for more serious stuff like banking, etc.

Even Ubuntu can get viruses. Long story short if it has a cache then it can be infected. LiveCDs do not permit anything to be installed to the system and therefore cannot be compromised.

Regarding the security of the addons in Firefox... I suppose thats true, however if you're really worried about a keylogger or other potential security threat residing in the actual site(and only site you would be loading the LiveCD for) then nobody is safe.

I'm sad. I logged on a few days before the patch. Had everything. I just checked and all my stuff is gone =[, but only on my NL/Aran....

Well EMS was not around when Global was launched, and it was Global. What difference does it make that they launched the EU version when tens of thousands already was accepted into the originally Global server? Anything that shows Nexon taking somewhat shady or mean actions would be usable in this situation. Don't be hasty turning down stuff, after all you do not decide what's bad practise and what's not. Looking at your posts I almost get the impression you think that you are somewhat of a leading star in this "crusade" against Nexon and their bad form. Like Legion, we are many.

The mistake you're making is Nexon America doesn't have much choice in how they treat you. Once the home office franchised off your license you're lucky Nexon America was even able to to keep your character and not outright required to deny you access. They've essentially lost all rights to your traffic. You being grandfathered in is about the extent of kindness you can expect - You're outside their target and it's your choice to be so. Theres no weight to your claim that Europe is getting "less service" from a company that legally shouldn't be servicing you at all. Doing special things just for you is outside their current scope - They're not allowed to actively compete with other versions that are entitled to you for your traffic.

There's no point in doing all that because the exploit is on Nexon's side.
