I've been playing on Hard Mode.
So far I've only gotten to chapter 4, but out of Finn, Rubella and the Golem, I'll have to agree with Dark Link in saying that Finn and the Golem don't really compare to Rubella's healing. I get hit A LOT in Hard Mode and it's kind of imperative to keep a healer around for that, even after focusing mostly on defense for Aurora.

But I love the game so far. Everything just feels so authentic to play. The first statue fight was pretty challenging and the boss fights I've had so far have been pretty daunting as well. The scenery's beautiful and the gameplay feels well balanced so far.

But yeah, the rhyming does seem awfully forced and it is rather terrible at times. But I don't care much about that.

My current active party usually consists of Rubella and Golem. Been making Golem a super tank and he does a hefty amount of damage with a Faceted Oculi (3rd tier gem). I stopped at Chapter 6 for now. I really enjoy finding the hidden areas that contain a lot of treasure and whatnot.

Also apparently there's a huge game-breaking bug that can corrupt your save file when you accept a certain Chapter 10 side quest.

I've been constantly switching out my party depending on the fight. I usually start with Aurora and Norah, and switch out Norah for others when needed or when I've buffed/debuffed enough.

The last boss fight I did before I quit for the day, I barely used Aurora at all. I ended up using Norah and Finn, to counter the enemies slow and to avoid the 2 other enemies counter-attack which activated on physical hits.

It was a really challenging fight, the boss and the minions were incredibly fast and hit hard, and if you interrupted the boss at all he would cast slow on your party 100% of the time, making them destroy you even faster. Oh, and the boss would occasionally cast revive on the minions.

Robert is a useless party member.

Ah gosh this game is so good. I've currently just beaten the second boss (not counting the mini-boss) and I'm enjoying every moment.

The Paper Mario-esque combat system (by which I refer to choosing your move and the party switching) makes me incredibly happy.

Very few games keep me interested due to the art alone. For sure worth getting.

Also Counterheal is such a lovely skill. RNG gods have looked upon me favorably. Not sure really where I want to go with Aurora yet. Went down in her magic tree a bit then opted for raising Slash and such up.

Yeah, I'm pretty much making Aurora more of a physical attacker right now with at least first tier light magic on hand.

I've also been playing on Normal like a pleb but I also don't plan on playing this game just once. Biggrin

I haven't really used any actual buffs yet. I'm sure I'll have to learn to incorporate them soon, though. I've just brute forced pretty much everything Tongue

The soundtrack is available here for anyone interested. You can listen to them all for free on there.

Aurora's Theme is the main theme, Dark Creatures is the normal battle theme and Metal Gleamed in the Twilight is the boss theme. All the music is great, honestly. Can't remember what part Jupiter's Lightning is from, but that's awesome too.

Currently sitting on Chapter 7 and I feel like this is where Finn really shines. Fights with 2-3 monsters all with different weaknesses and/or monsters that are super physical resistant. Finn is basically 2-shotting any monster with a Fire/Water/Lightning weakness.

Also for anyone playing on Normal:
Has there been fights where you cannot use igniculus to slow enemies at all? I feel like this might be a "Hard Mode" only thing and it's rather irritating when it happens against a group of incredibly fast monsters.

EDIT:
Defeated the boss on Chapter 8 and gained access to everyone's "Tier 3" skills. Stopped right at Chapter 9.
Turns out the file corruption / game crashing error is a PS4 ONLY problem and unfortunately enough I got the crash to occur when watching the cutscene between CH8 and CH9, but luckily my file didn't get corrupted.

To answer your question, yes, quite often, but this is assuming you're asking in the sense that his meter runs out. But this is usually with enemies that take a good amount of turns to take down (like the spiders inside Magna or, obviously, bosses).

And I am quite glad to hear that the save corruption is only with the PS4. I've been afraid to use the map out of fear that my save would get corrupted. >_>;

I mean in the sense of trying to slow down the monsters, but they don't change their animation as if trying to shield themselves from the light. It's as if nothing even happens and I end up wasting meter for no reason. Thankfully it only happens during non-boss fights.

y0y0y0y0shi0 Wrote:It keeps happening to me (PS4, Hard) too. Usually it works for the start of the fight and then some time through it just stops working. I've noticed it only really stops working when I move Igniculus though. It doesn't always happen, but if I have Igniculus in one place and then move him to get more wishes, sometimes it just stops.

Finn's starting to get really useful for me too. A lot of enemies now have a lot of armor so magic damage is really effective on them, and Aurora can only do so much.

Just got to the Chapter 8 boss fight and got my second game over. I've been using a lot of Oengis since I got him. He's been pretty useful so far.

Robert is useless as hell and I've literally only used him as a last resort, and I don't care much for Tristis. His speedup is nice but I [hover]preferred Norah's slow as well.[/hover] Golem's useful for AoE physical damage and his paralyze is useful in a pinch.
I actually found a good use for Robert later on. the bosses just keep getting faster and faster, so a character that can cast Slow is really helpful. When I got the oppurtunity I'd switch to Robert, cast Hinder and then swap him out again.

oh, and the tag is [hide] not [hover] Smile

I completely forgot Robert had slow. Then again I've never touched Robert and the only character I use that has slow is Golem, but he got completely 1up'd by Onegus and his high stats. Only thing Golem has over him is magic related stuff, which serves no purpose for Golem.
As for the Chapter 8 boss fight, I hated how the fight was stupid hard until I killed the two small monsters, then the fight became obscenely easy, especially with Onegus "Titan Armor" and "Taunt" ability to keep all the damage on him. Combo'd with Tristis' "Ultimate Armor" and "Haste", he becomes a super tank.

Rubella's "Counterheal" is OP as hell!

Onegus's taunt ability is already OP enough, but when you upgrade it to it's final level it restores 50 HP per turn, it's crazy.

pineapple.

Yeah I forgot about Robert's slow too. I'll have to try him out in a bit.

But when I get back to the chapter 8 boss fight what I think I'll just do is use Finn's and Aurora's aoe spells to burst down the minions quickly. Trying to slowly pick them off by tanking with Golem/Oengis + Rubella just didn't pan out.

I wish there was a way to change your party layout before a fight. It actually could be a pretty good strategical advantage to start out with your 2 fastest people and switch them both out when your first turn comes around.

ALSO WHAT THE pineapple. IN NORMAL MODE THE WISHES IN BATTLES GIVE HP/MP?? WHY DID I CHOOSE HARD MODE pineapple.

Single Target is more important against the small monsters IMO. If you accidentally interrupt the boss, it auto counters with a party heal.
