This thread really went downhill, this wasn't supposed to be a debate about whether Maplestory has changed for the better or not. That's a whole other thread. I just wanted to have everyone share their memories of pre-BB Maplestory.
Come on now guys, less angry debate, more teary-eyed nostalgia!

The only bit of actual teary-eyed nostalgia I could share is memories of my Archer being stomped on left and right and being called vulgarities as I was weak. Does that count?

Part of a dying breed because most of us have wised up and left.

Also, I remember fondly of the "hacker era". You know... all of those wraithes being vac hacked in every ing channel.
I remember when vaccers were actually scared of getting banned so they vacced outside of the bounds of the map, so you couldn't see them at all, just mobs warping up into nothingness. I remember seeing that a lot in the Subway maps.
Nowadays people do it in plain sight and curse you out for even giving them an .

That's quite impossible because of how angry you get when you consider how Nexon has changed the game from fun into a money pit that we carelessly throw our money into. Even pushing the "Pre-BB was better" bullshit aside, you still have how the marketing changed in such a massive way that even thinking about it makes my eyes cringe.

Good old memories
I remember when I first played as a Magician, and there was no auto AP-reset upon job advancement that time
People and guides on forums told me to roll a perfect 4 for the other stats but I got too lazy
So I gave up at about 4-5 for the other stats
Then I added STR in the middle way because I'm getting impatient to hit the Red Snail with Damage 1 totally xD
One of the classic moves was kneeling down on the bench and you hit the red snail
I remember how happy I was when the work gloves quest actually gave me a pair of purple work gloves
And people kept telling me to become a Cleric but I refused to, because.... I love ice D: and BA-ZAP, Ba-ZAP, things
Still I stuck in the middle way because of my legendary skill build which was totally screwed up
Improving MP recovery (max) , Improving MP increase(unmax), Magic Guard (unmax), Energy Bolt(MAX) I was that stupid that time
I remember how I call up my whole gang of friends to party up with me to help me leveling up to Level 50 in Shanghai Plow Ox map. I still don't know why I insisted to level up at that place.....
And I remember that time people told me there's DUPE hack xDDD (which is a scam)
And I gave the scammer 2 Mana elixirs and 1000 mesos (I was that poor)
There's once vacuum loot hack existed and I dropped my mystic shield in the room(1) and I never knew the hacker can suck it instantly on top
Then I got real mad and kept begging people to give me another, even ask for 1 fame trading for 1 mystic shield
because that shield is soooooo beautiful...
And last time my guildmaster brought me to explore Eos Tower
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOMENTS, we climbed all the way down, I got really amazed that time by the beauty and structure of the towers, or to be more precise, overwhelmed .
Good old days

Alright, here's mine!
Pig beach on my level 2x warrior with that white and blue level 20 overall with a wooden samurai sword and a blue bamboo hat. Hours and hours of just sitting back to relax as I listened to the beautiful bgm of Lith Harbor and occasionally killing some pigs for about 10 minutes in between homework assignments. I had recently been invited into my first guild too, and made a few of my oldest maple friends in there.
Oh how I miss pig beach... Out of all the maps that were rearranged and taken out for Big Bang, that's really the only one I truly miss.
Oh yeah, and about people mentioning their poor stat builds. I would always get my two useless stats to 5 before doing anything else, because I figured that 2 points meant nothing and I really like having my stats as multiples of 5. Just a little bit of OCD I guess.

Also remember getting my first 1million mesos and i thought i was rich. Boy do I feel soooooo very poor now.
Also remeber the leeching era when 4th jobs first came out LOL One of my guildies needed an HS mule and she leeched it into what is now my bishop. pretty hilarious. Also level 120 took forever. Got to 8x on my own. dear lord those zombies map.
Still happy with my buc now and probs forever until i stop playing this game for lulz. I do wish nexon wou;ld bring back the perma pendant slots. i'd buy that now (didn't have money back then D

This. Summing it up with dray86's videos, including his much more widely-known Maple Kombat series (which I would have posted except the first vid is blocked in the U.S. now? Okay then).
Also Flenaris' LOLFP videos from like late 2006. Man that was inspiration right thur. *sigh* i remember anxiously awaiting his Maple Kombat series...
Maplestory has been a large part of my life for a very long time and probably always will be.(: I love this game...and nothing (besides potentials and separate cash inventories...and taking the ring effects away) has ever changed that c:

My best memory was when I was able to compete against other previous players in a 10-lap B3 construction site Jump Quest (Kerning city) race. The prizes were just Black Crystal/Gold/Diamond ores, but at the time they were significant ores. Since Clerics were known to jump B3 very well in order to find training spots for Wraiths, it was very known for them to be able to jump B3 very well.

Video of MeepMage's technique of jumping it. Everyone who had "rushed" B3 at the time had similar technique.
My experiences of jumping it were for the ores, just my way of grabbing meso at the time. (I really hate the 1-per-day prize limit on it now, otherwise I'd be jumping it all day). I was an I/L Wizard, so it was not very expected for me to jump the quest as well.
I had dropped first place to a major mistake on the last lap to Squeek, a previous content creator for clerics but achieved second place to place above Lumiere. It was a great experience to meet the clerics whose guides I've read on the forums.

I don't care much about "pre-BB", since that includes himes; I feel that they ruined the game more than BB did, they killed aqua road grinding parties, which were the only stable grinding parties that existed. They usually lasted 20+ hours at a time, and multiple were up at any given time...that always needed HS. I log in in the morning and 4 people were whispering asking for HS, I stayed with them all day, went to bed in the AM, woke up a few hours later, and repeated. Mindless grinding like that is more fun for me than anything; in my eyes, the more choices I have, the less likely I am to do ANYTHING; I'll think about doing each one for a while then decide it's not worth it and go back to bed.

And you couldn't do those 20-hour grinds at Himes? Priests were pretty much essential there.

I'd really rather not go back to the grind of the old days. Too much time poorly spent imo.
The community is what makes up for that, but I'm being practical and realistic about time management.

Berserking Horntail's Tail and Anego was fun. I think I used to annoy a lot of Bishops at Horntail though by staying away from the rest of the party so I wouldn't get healed xD

To be honest, I find nostalgia threads silly. It is the same thing as people saying Vanilla WoW or TBC was much better than it is today.
In my opinion every nostalgia discussion, whether it be WoW, DAoC, Maple, whatever, is going to devolve into "the game is better now because of X" and "No, the game was much better back then because of X"
I think we can all agree we loved old maple, or else we wouldn't have stuck with it to be where we are today. But there have also been some good changes in new maple that made the game much better.

In Khaini, the second aqua parties went, parties went. There WERE no hime parties. I cycled day and night looking for them for weeks until I finally just gave up and started a new character, then quit for a long while. Half the time, nobody had to balls to even kill tengu, so when the chs all had tengu, nobody grinded period.

I dont have any note worthy pre big bang stuff. Other than people being like "what the hell is a white knight?". But my favorite nostalgia moment is leveling up achillies so I could tank of of anegos 16k slaps. and having to make sure she was always threatened.

We have to go Back
But really...
Maple Then took more time and effort and any accomplishments reached were merely time effort and skill which made you feel good, the people were nicer no swagfags yolo420 idiots and "pro" communities actually could play the game properly because they trained themselves rather than leeching/just buying all their equips for $$$.
Maple Then - Time,Skill,Effort,Better People, More to do (because nothing was just amazing exp really), all people were equal
Maple Now - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$swagfagyoloswag420

That ludi PQ reminded me of something.
You can call me evil, but I get a kick out of me or someone else summoning a Jr. Balrog or the male Showa Boss in PQ areas like those. Raining tombstones in that area made my gut hurt from laughing too hard. We got those Black Sacks to summon a Jr. Balrog from Guild PQ (R.I.P :3) and showa boss bags from events.
