Ugh, they could have at least changed his Maple Warrior to Cygnus appearing instead of whoever the hell the current woman is.

.....Because Cygnus will eventually be a playable character! They will make up a storyline where she gains powers and starts shooting lasers. And for her ultimate, she summons Shinsoo to nuke everything on screen!

How does this make sense? Wasn't Zakum built hundreds of years ago? How is Spiegelmann alive?

Those are scenes only accessible through the frames inside his gallery. Chances are those are actual memories from Spiegelmann's past.

All signs point to Spiegelmann being the Black Mage himself.

Surely, if his minions Von Leon, Orchid, Lotus, Hilla, and Arkarium survived all these years without aging.....

Eh, I don't think he's "the Black Mage himself", but he's clearly connected to the Black Wings somehow.

My money is on that he is a third party watching all the events in the Cygnus, Heroes, Explorers, Resistance vs. Black Mage and the Black Wings.

Trying to obtain stuff that could be useful, recording the events, etc.

i like this idea way better. if he was the blackmage why would he be helping maplers gain levels faster.. only to end up being beaten by them?

Maybe he wants a challenge from us instead of horribly slaughtering us. That's a lot of blood to clean up when he starts cutting heads off and chopping body parts with his vastly superior power, afterall.

Not like it would be the first bad guy to do that.

story of zakum actually was that it was built by the town, but the tree behind it gave it life and evil powers, and then it destroyed the town.

the statue itself wasn't evil (or alive for that matter.)

tree in the background had a lot of zaqqum references, which was some cursed tree or something in arab culture i think.

Probably a similar plan to the Lich King's.

Let the leader of the organization that's out to destroy him gather up the world's greatest champions and deliver them right to him, let them think they're winning, then just up and kill them then raise them to be the new leaders of his army. (Or whatever process the Black Mage used to corrupt Cygnus, Mihile, etc.)

I thought some guy died and went in the ground as the power of Zakum and destroyed the town or something like that...

Read something between those lines also.

What I remember of that is that there was an evil spirit/entity thing that possessed the tree behind the now built Zakum. The possessed tree controlled El Nath villagers minds (or the villagers of that time's town) and forced them to build for it a prominent massive rock body. Once they finished, the spirit took place inside the statue and proceded to smash the village along with everyone on it.

Aaaand Zakum lived lonely ever after until modern Maplers decided to rape his pimento for the heck of it.

Hey here's a fun fact. The four places you visit in Spiegelman's Gallery are the four places that the black mage has the most influence over.
1) Leafre
2) Edelstein
3) Nihal Desert
4) El Nath

It's kinda scary to think about. I don't think this class should've been created since he's already part of a boss fight. I'll admit that I really wanna play as Oz and Eckhart though... T_T

I think it'd be cool if after they release all of the CK Instructors, they go back to the 5 in Future Hene and update their attacks to match their 4th job movesets.
