PSA: New trick to ban yourself. Please read.

Heidi Wrote:I actually thought the opening of the equip window was purely client side.

Does this happen when any other keys are spammed?

Ironically the whole idea of maplestory is pressing the same keys repeatedly.

This is my thought exactly. More specifically, why the heck does opening your equipment window even require server communication anyway?! (aside from an initial load-up of course.)

The server can't tell the difference between a player spamming the Equip key and a program doing it.
Both send the same packets to the server.
I assume spamming the skill or item key would do it too.

What about spamming NPC chat to get into a boss? Or even just clicking. Like Scar/Tar or Zakum.

Oh no, the Zakum channel is too crowded! Wait a second... "Quick everyone, spam NPC chat so we all get in! Winner gets 25m!" *wait about 30 seconds* *walk into empty channel*

Don't think so. I missed a few times yesterday before getting into Zak and no Admin notices popped up.

Or the recent Rock-Paper-Scissors event we had.

Anyway I think the Equip window requires server communication because the server has to tell the client which items are truly equipped and which should be reddened out. Although I would think the client already knows, otherwise how would it know how to draw you?
Also, if you don't have your pet out, the pet HP/MP potion slots need to be cleared (idk why, I wish it wouldn't do that, but it does).

I just did testing on a nothing account. All these were spammed for 1 minute: Npc chat(no ban) item(no ban) quest window(no ban), Chat expander (no ban) Skill window(no ban) Stat window(no ban) Spamming attack(no ban) Party and guild(no ban)

For pete's sake guys, you have to sit there and hold it for a good 30 seconds straight. Unless you're deliberately being an idiot, this shouldn't really be something to be afraid of.

Maple's not a great client for questions of "what should be going on". The equip window opens fast enough that I doubt it's waiting for a response from the server.

It's probably clientside hacking tool checks going wrong, in the vein of the disconnection for attacking too soon after you enter a map.

Anyone feel like testing it with equips mapped to a key other than E? I'm too lazy to make up new accounts.

It's related to the new spam packets = a/b thing. Holding down a key is basically spamming packets.

Watch a GM hold an event and 30 seconds later, say "Hey, where did everyone go?"

We don't believe any packets are getting sent though when equip inventory is opened. It doesn't delay at all. I am going to experiment with it later though.

Other people have said it as well

Would you like to explain to me your arguement FOR packets getting sent?

I'm not even sure you know what packets are.
lol.
Every interaction between the client and server is through packets.
Almost every single action in the game is controlled through packets sent by the client and packets sent by the server.

Also, thought this was funny, and wonder how many people actually did it.

While many actions in the game do have a call and response from the server, it is believed that opening your inventory and equips is not one of them.

You can open your Inventory, Equips, and Walk around while the server lags and does not respond. You cannot however, talk to an NPC.

Opening equip window sends packets.
