Way to resolve the problems, Nexon! Especially since half of your players can't even log in, and there are already channels crashing again!

I like to imagine Nexon America's technical team as a bunch of elderly people who have been working at the company for decades.
Then, one day, the company decided to "modernize" by purchasing and implementing some of these new-fangled computers, forcing the technologically inept to 'adapt'. And by 'adapt' I mean "yell and throw things when stuff goes wrong, try to restart it, and then yell and throw more things when that doesn't fix anything." No, that doesn't make any sort of sense, but at least it allows me to imagine Nexon's office as full of the elderly yelling at inanimate objects.

And the notice is back to its previous form, the red bit about being resolved as of 4:40 has been removed (but "[resolved]" still in the title...)
Nexon Wrote:Dear Maplers, I have a sick feeling that they tried to counter the DDoS by IP-blocking, except as usual with Nexon it backfired and kept the legit players out (with the "server check or firewall" message) while still letting the vandals pummel the servers.

Maybe you know something we don't. ![]() In any case, this doesn't bode well for completing the rest of my rings... or the Australian 2x EXP event...

Lol @ anyone not believe it's a DDoS attack now. The exact method and tools that you need was released on that site nobody wants to talk about, but was since removed. What this person is doing is highly illegal and hopefully Nexon actually does something about it.

Anyway... got half my rings to level 7 before this pomegranate started, but the other half are mostly level 5 (started a day late because not enough time after the maintenance on the 19th), and so don't have days to spare.

Yeah, given that my VPN service is also being a little pomegranate, I'm inclined to believe that these people are just masquerading. Anyone can put up a link to LOIC or HOIC and put an IP address. Doesn't make them uber-pro h4x0rs last time I checked. Seems to me that since Anonymous DDoS'd everyone they didn't like, people are seeing DDoS's everywhere.

JPTheMonkey Wrote:They removed exp from Golden Statues People complained about that yesterday, but I still got exp for the one or two statues I grew while waiting for the ring. There might be some limit to the number of times you can do that quest (and get coin and exp), per day or overall.

Not sure what site it is of which you speak, but I was watching at least two of them and saw absolutely no information that would bring me to believe this was a DDoS. The biggest barrier is the question of why someone with access to such resources would bother trying to take down Nexon. Even if it were a DDoS, the fact that Anonymous still runs rampant tells me that Nexon won't be able to do pomegranate.

Is it just me or has the game crashed for just enough hours to screw over hundreds of ring farmers during EVERY ring event?

He's not saying it's anonymous, he's saying that it's less than a hundred script kiddies. I doubt that 100 DDoSers could make much of a difference on servers that accommodate thousands of people every day.

Raul Wrote:Uh huh. Thing is, if this were simply a result of solar activity or some other general noise on the internet, you wouldn't see neat crashes of all channels in all servers except for one or two channels for each server. Recall that each physical computer runs multiple channels (between 2 and 7, depending on how new it is and how busy the server is), so the likelihood of all instances but one crashing is pretty low. It could happen if Nexon did something that causes "deadlocks", which force the OS/DB to terminate all but one of the deadlocked processes, but somehow I doubt they did that randomly this morning and couldn't figure out how to undo it for hours and hours. Therefore, this is obviously the result of malicious activity. Now, it could be a bunch of the usual channel-crashers, suddenly perfectly coordinated across all servers, and for some obscure reason crashing all but one instead of the usual one channel that is sufficient for duping. Or it could be someone else with a different "agenda" which is pretty much plain vandalism and griefing. I don't claim to know. I'm just speculating while I wait for the situation to be resolved. |
