aye, but it looks like they might have done that once for coding that is similarly patterned, such as maps/music/animations, but not likely for stuff that would take too long to test out. That would explain why we don't see many problems with maps/music/animation even in Tespia. But for the coding that would be tough to program a test case, such as new scrolls and scroll related effects (hammers, white scrolls, potentials, equip enhancement scrolls), there are various instances of glitches/exploits found. Ever notice that? it's like they just make sure it works and leave it at that. Next patch, boom exploit. Reminds me of the famous donation meso exploit.

The reason the 'dev' team is so criticized is because the 'trickier' coding is never given a good polish. History shows us how to pinpoint where the teams got lazy.

@SwordStalker To quote Sherlock Holmes:

"No matter how improbable the situation, nothing is impossible."

A 100% bug free game is not what we ask for. What we want is a game where bugs are less serious and the worst of the worst are taken care of before small non-critical bugs are fixed later on. That's where Quality Assessment come into play.

As I said earlier... fixing the disconnection and Vista/7 bugs should have been first priority. Fixing Chaos Horntail Necklaces so they can't be Hammered was a minor problem so they should have been less a priority. Inserting new items into the Cash Shop was a minor problem as well.

Any seasoned and good developer will tell you. Fix big bugs first, then worry about the small stuff as you have time for it. You need the program running first and stable before you do anything else, and you always keep track of the way the program runs so no further problems re-arise.

Eosian Wrote:It'd take as long to program in the necessary unit testing test case scenarios for an automated tool as it would to just do them, possibly longer.

Depends on how often you expect to be testing each unit.
Some places always test all content, new and old, just to make sure nothing got broken accidentally.

street Wrote:what is he asking then? Recrods of things being fixed? Do we really need to know exactlly what goes on during a server check? From the bare bone detail to when a developer wrote a note down and ate a chip?

Even if nexon said what they were doing during server checks people will say "their just sitting on their ass doing nothing, this is bs" so whats the point

I dont expect you to understand the concept of open-sourced technologies or the full programming cycle, so I will not bother my time explaining to you what Jamie_Kurosawa wanted.

As for people will just say ".......", I guess it IS a problem if you say something like that about a service.

OK lets put it like this. Everything you say about NEXON is like a dog foaming at the mouth, or a murderer full of hate and rage. Since you've joined this forum I have not seen you say one thing nice about NEXON, no good job, or I like what they're trying to do here. All I see from you is hate and it's true. You obviously don't understand any of the work they do and they even said in this blog somethings take longer than other things. For all we know as we speak they're using their own pirvate Tespia to try and make MS compatible. Why did they fix the HT glitch fast?Because it could be fixed fast and if it stayed things would become beyond broken. You really need to learn some respect for them and stop hating on everything they do.

Ladies and gentlemen & Chinchillas, it seems we have a Nexon spy in these forums...

Not trying to build a dam for anyone, but Jamie seems to be quite literate with computers and technologies in general. From the "jargons" that he typed up, it has shown time and time again what his potential understanding toward these things. Too bad I cant say the same for you. Judgements arnt too well perceived when you have little to back yourself.

Do you?

Tykian Wrote:The only thing that is clear in this thread is that those who are bashing Nexon in this regard have no idea how difficult it is to code a game this massive, while trying to integrate code that is completely different from the base code they're adding it into.

Please excuse me for bashing Nexon, but to an average kid from an average family, do we suppose to actually try to get some idea of the difficulties in programming and maintaining code to "a game this massive" to appreciate their continuous failures? On top of that, their reactions to these failures are something else to note. Unfortunately, there're those who actually know stuffs you mentioned and their critiques are, .... well, bashy.

Even though he does and he does I can tell, it doesn't mean he knows the exact coding of this game, how things are taken care of and what the codes of this game are, therefore he shouldn't be telling NEXON what to do when hes never seen the codes. Sure ok it's written in C+++ or JavaScript and he may have total knowledge of that, still doesn't give him any right to tell nexon they're doing it all wrong I know how to do it and bs like that. And your right, I know nothing of coding, but you don't see me throwing a "tantrum" or anything of that sort am I right?

Pretty sure it's C++. I've made my own private private server (meaning it was offline) before to try out some skills, and I had to use Microsoft Visual Studio C++ or something.

It made me lose interest in private servers for good though; it was all too easy to play. =.=

Thought it would be. Still doesn't mean the GMS codes couldn't be different from PS codes or longer for that matter.

That's hilarious, especially the bolded part. ''omg you NEVER say anything nice about Nexonz!!!1 no pat on the back for trying or anything!''

It sounds like Nexon employees are your kids, and even though they suck bananas at almost everything you just have to say ''Good job!'' so you don't hurt their feelings and give them low self esteem. You posted on the official forums saying that they were doing a good job for posting that disconnection issue thread on there or something, but you fail to realize how long it took them to even at least -actually- acknowledge the problem.

Just because they -seemingly- care for two seconds out of the year it does -not- cover up the smell of the horse crap they fling at us all year long, every year, and that's why -intelligent- people will give them a pat on the back because words alone don't mean anything, especially not from an online gaming company. -Actions- talk, and Nexon -rarely- takes action, and when they do they normally just totally fumble the ball, and sometimes even make things worse.

You have no right to call anyone who criticizes Nexon a ''hater''. You obviously don't know what a hater is. These people are -criticizing- Nexon because they have -reason- to, and they at least back up their words so it's not like they just spew garbage out trying to ''vent'' and then leave it at that. That's not ''hating'', it's facts.

If you're wondering why you see so much ''hate'' around here, it's because Southperry is a -Maple Story- forum for the most part, so it's going to be dealing mostly with Maple Story content, issues, etc. You're going to see praise and criticizing for what goes on in Maple Story here, so you should at least get used to seeing both. It's never -always- one or the other here. Praise is given were it's deserved and criticism just the same.

SwordStaker Wrote:You obviously don't understand any of the work they do and they even said in this blog somethings take longer than other things.

What makes you think you do if they don't then? At least they seem to have some knowledge in this type of thing. If you don't understand the work they do yourself then you're in no place to say such a thing.

Theres a big difference in criticism and hate. Criticism points out flaws in something that need to be fixed. As stated AGAIN... criticism can be nice and it can be harsh. Again I state... I, and maybe others, have been nice to Nexon, until now. They only are getting harsh criticism because of how they've neglected MapleStory to the point 0.89 easily wins the award for the buggiest MMORPG of the year!

And as Ghost said it... you will see good and bad criticism of Nexon here because this is a OPEN MapleStory Fan Based forum. This isn't the official forum where you can't say what you want openly without dealing with a ban, deleted post, or have the cronies start a flame war just to get you banned and silenced.

Since I've been here the only people who have attacked me are the people who either dislike and hate my guild and it's members for their own petty egotistical bullcrap, the trolls and flamers who got me banned from the Nexon forums, and the people who think I'm too smart or educated for my own good or anyone else's for that matter. Heck look at my initial "Hello" post here. One of the first people who took a punch at me is a former guild leader who can't stand me or my guildmates because he's got an overbloated ego. Look at all his other posts in reply to me, same stuff. More punches for no reason.

Look at my posts in the Tech Support section. Find something negative other than a small dispute of ideas me and Skylit had which obviously didn't last long. If anything I've been a huge help to a good number of people and in my Hello post, someone actually said they needed someone to offer help in the worst way. I even got a "thank you" reply. You have no idea how those make a tech support person feel. WE RARELY GET THOSE!!! HONEST!

Sword I'm not spouting hatred as you think I am. Calm down, take a deep breath and notice the message of what I'm saying. I said this even on the Nexon forums and got banned for it:

Newer content is nice but before new content arrives bugs need to be found, fixed, and have at least the worst of the worst taken care of before publishing it. Running Tespia for a month before release and using it only to debute content to a small handful of people is not properly testing software. IMO... Tespia needs to be a full time effort on Nexon's behalf. They need to deploy new content at least 3 months ahead of time and have the teams of testers find as many bugs as possible and do active subversion patching till it's fixed and ready for official release. If anything we should have new versions every 3 months of a major release and in between that we need smaller subversion patches, server side maintenances, and such to get things fixed actively, not passively.

I'm not this bad person people think I am or make me out to be. Get to know me, and you'll find I'm not just a good person, I'm funny, comical, bonkers at times, but also sensitive as well. Hell, if I wasn't a little insane every day, I'd be crazy.

Sorry, the "you don't appreciate how hard it is" line doesn't work for me.

would you accept
"You don't know how hard it is to pilot a jetliner"
"You don't know how hard it is to play the piano"
"You don't know how hard it is to cook for hundreds"
"You don't know how hard it is to teach kindergarteners"
"You don't know how hard it is to build cars"
as excuses for doing a poor job?

I'm sorry, if this is how you choose to make your living, do a decent job. I don't care how hard it is. Others can do it, so can you.
I'm not asking for bug-free code. I know that's not possible, and nobody delivers it. All I am asking is the same level of QA and customer relations as other companies in the same field provide. If they can, Nexon can. And as long as they don't, I will criticize them.

You don't follow much do you? It has been over a year since Maplestory's source code has been leaked. Anyone can find out how they code the game if they wanted to. You can actually load up 2 different versions and compare exactly what code was changed.. if you wanted to.

Theres a difference between criticism and total hate. Do I criticise NEXON from time to time? Yes I do. Are they a perfect company? No. Are they a bad company. Yes. Are they a VERY bad company. Yes. Are they a terrible company? No they are not. All of you totally fail to see ANY point I'm trying to make-_-. My point is your post isn't that oh criticism is bad and terrible. I don't come off clear a lot of times and end up having to go back and take back what I said and put it in a fair way. Let me put it like this once and for all so maybe ya'll can finally understand the point I'm making. Critizing NEXON is one thing. Foaming at the mouth with pure hate towards them isn't. NEXON is NOT a good company any lame brain who thinks so is an idiot. Are they terrible? No they are not but they are bad. They are taking steps into the right direction and THAT should be the pat on the back to them saying good job. Every year they get better and better. There are some times in the year when it's bad but straightens out eventually. You can argue all you want with my post but all I see is people foaming at the mouth and blood shot eyes towards NEXON.
ghost Wrote:What makes you think you do if they don't then? At least they seem to have some knowledge in this type of thing. If you don't understand the work they do yourself then you're in no place to say such a thing.
Yes because everyone here has EVERY clue to what NEXON is doing in their office. I'm not a computer wiz but I know what C+++ and Java coding is. And I know MS runs on one of those and thats it. Your argument really makes no sense.

I'm aware people know what the source code is. I really don't have a comeback for this. I don't know all this computer stuff like you guys. All this binary coding and whatever else there is. I'm just saying even though we know the code how NEXON goes about it is unknown to us. Can you at least agree on that?

I can tell your very smart with computers and I don't deny you don't know the code.(If I said so then I'm wrong.) Do you know EXACTLY how NEXON deals with these codes? I don't think any of us will unless we see it for ourself. Again I state, they're bad, they're very bad, but not terrible. Critism again is fine towards them. But calling them idiots or "monkeys" or "dumb asses" or that sort is pure hate.

It's a shame MapleStory isn't open source. Yes that would lead to possibly more hacks (a downside), but it could also spark interest from developers in freelance who could discover bugs at the source level, offer ways to fix them, and get better fixes going faster by submitting differential changes and changelogs back to Nexon to show what was fixed and how, even then hacks could also be patched faster as well. It wouldn't do a hacker any good if his hack is patched within an hour and then republished the next day in a small subversion patch release set at midnight.

The comparison to "a thousand monkeys at a thousand PCs" to Nexon is an old cliche term for the aspect.... it's like having a thousand monkeys at a thousand typewriters. In a thousand years if you analyze what all has been typed out on accident and mishap, you'll get the greatest story every told.

BTW... did anyone notice.... I'm not a guy? People keep referring to me as a "he"... um... I'm a girl, just to set it correct.

Nexon is a multi-million-dollar company, they make a living, a good living, from running MapleStory. They aren't 8 year olds trying to overcome their lying habit who deserve a pat on the back for admitting to peeing themselves last night. Until their customers are satisfied, complaints will be had. Be glad that the criticism you see on here actually has something to back it up; nobody's saying Nexon are dumbasses, they say Nexon are dumbasses because [what really matters goes here].
