Albeit a truism.
Regardless of what Nexon does someone is going to attack it. That's not just limited to SP though. Every forum and community has at least one personw ho will be vocal about hating anything and everything that could ever be done.

This makes little to no sense to me, how does it not have meaning?
Its fair to say that people are quick to shrug off anything Nexon does, and generally have a negative train of thought twords them, sure its not true across the board, but thats clearly not what was being said.

I think this is a step in the right discussion from Nexon, but I still have some small skepticism that this isn't even a dev writing this.

Nexon makes moves now and then that seem like they're taking a step in the right direction, but unfortunately they're better than Michael Jackson when it comes to the moonwalk.

Let it go, man. You're wrong. On -many- levels.
Eosian Wrote:You're assuming the recipients actually have the full code for both their systems and the systems they're trying to upgrade to.
For all you know they get nothing more than a differential patch of the before/after for the updates from the original codebase and the developer notes, then have to reverse engineer that to determine applicable changes on their own codebase.
Your frame of reference is too limited if you automatically assume making segmented changes from inconsistent versions of both a client and server is somehow comparable to just modding an SNES game.
Thank you for rewording what I said. Since I don't know their labor/capital ratios for development, I don't know what their rig setup is. Good thing I went with my CoD reference, because patching that bad boy for modding is very strenuous and DM setups help loads to analyze changed code. Also, if they have to reverse engineer, that is a ton easier than having to make code from scratch. It would be strange for there not to be many in-house developed apps after 5 years... I'd get tired of having to RE every patch every time. At some point I'd either make programs or use some that would ease up the process. But historically speaking their patch times have been worse with the same codebase. Are they intentionally making it hard for themselves? Arguing that the game gets bigger and so the coding difficulty increases along with the bug count implies zero optimization effort over the last 5 years.
But since we're on the subject, why would the Korean devs only provide so little post development support? They would have to hate the hell out of the US team to do that.... it just doesn't seem likely.
anyway, enough of this topic. I have to get back to my own coding projects

More strenuous unit testing would solve Nexon's problems?

And maybe raise the testing time. Three days really isn't enough to test a whole new patch, without counting that full testing wasn't even possible because, even if there was a stage every day, they couldn't still test stage 4. I think they might have done that purposely, though, to not spoil too many things for the players.
They should really follow KMST for their test server. Maybe make testing rounds of two-three weeks or so (not as long as two-three months like them), but less than one week just isn't enough for some patches.
Also, they still need improvement for that. I wonder how are they going to test new classes like Resistance if they don't make a level-up NPC or at least increase the EXP rates. People won't be able to fully test the new jobs if they don't do that, and the copy character feature will just be useless for patches like those.

It's highly likely they're not going to use Tespia how they did for the Invasion patch. There was no increased exp rates because they knew the players testing the event didn't need it since it's an event that was available from Lv.10+, right? And they already had high levels for if they needed to test the different difficulties of the PQ.
It was only available for a few days because they felt it didn't need much more I'm sure, and they didn't. The event was pretty much worked out for the most part during Tespia, and the major bugs were dealt with before the patch.
When they open Tespia for Big Bang and Resistance I'm fairly certain they'll have increased rates or auto-level since they're going to want to test the new skills and such.
This Tespia, in my opinion, was in no way showing how they're going to handle Tespia in the future.

The only reason they felt they didn't need that much time was because of the nature of the event. The fact that the content comes out in bursts rather than all at once allows them to minimize damage from glitches in later stages so they aren't a problem upon release.
That said, the more time the better, and we can only hope they keep that in mind by big bang. Though i still think they won't need to use auto-level if testing big bang because they figured out how to copy character data. They just need to pick several hundred characters from each job in each level range to get skill testing done.

True, they could somehow implement something like a job-changing NPC which it also resets your SP, making it able to test the skills of the jobs but keeping your actual character's level. But yeah, they'd need to choose people in various level ranges for that to work, and seeing how there aren't THAT many active level 200s in GMS (though, I admit there's a good amount of them), they could not be enough for full testing (for example, the level 200 quests, even if usually it's just one).

I was referring mostly to the Resistance testing on that actually since there's no way anybody would be able to copy over characters that didn't previously exist.

Adding new jobs isn't really something nexon has been known to be particularly bad at, though, so i don't think anyone should have any real reason to worry about resistance implementation.

I'll be honest with you, I responded the best I could because I don't understand what you're saying. I basically said what Eos did, yet for some reason you chose to attack me, and not him. Huh.

They could still decide to use increased rates at least though. :f6:

Yeah, I think they'd opt for leveling npc instead though. Much faster results that way.

"Sometimes a story or character just doesnt translate, and we have to rewrite from scratch" This is not something i want to hear before we get possible major patches like big bang or other world tour areas, as with Neo City and Kerning Square, it's very possible much could be left out either by mistake or on purpouse in an attempt to meet a deadline or to satisfy the players.

True that, but there could be mistakes in the skills' descriptions or in the skills' sounds (*cough* pirates *cough*).

Not every post in every thread is a direct attack on you, sir.

Yes, but they have clues and evidence from the scene of the crime. What clues and evidence do we have from Nexon about how they operate?
