1.- There's three boxes tagged with "Blue balls" "Red balls" and "Green balls", they tell you that the 3 are tagged wrongly, you have to tag them correctly, but you can only open one box. How do you tag them?
2.- The King of a reign has a challenge for whoever wants to marry his daulghter. He has 3 chests, gold, silver and lead. One of them has a portrait of the princess, if the person who wants to marry her finds the right chest, he will be allowed, if he misses, he's killed.
Each chest has a phrase written on it.
The gold chest says "The Silver chest doesn't have the portrait
The silver chest says "The portrait isn't here"
The Lead chest says "The portrait is here"
The princess, to help his lover, tells him that at least one of the chests has the truth and at least one is a lie. How does he pick the correct one?

no picture
the first two must either be both true or both lie, otherwise, they would contradict each other
if it is true true lie, then there is no picture
if it is lie lie true, then there are two pictures, which tere arent

Kalovale Wrote:You do realize that in that case, the 2nd person can't deduct what he did, right?
You got it close though, just need to cover a few more possibilities.
Let me rephase my answer:
Spoiler
let's say H=hat and N=no hat
In the case of NNH, the 3rd person will see immediately that the first 2 person doesn't have hat and say "I have a hat" immediately".
In the case of HHH, HHN, HNH, HNN, NHN, NHH : the last person sees the one of the first 2 have a hat , and doesn't talk.
about 10-30 seconds later, the 2nd person would know that the 3rd person sees at least 1 hat in either him or the 1st person which is why the 3rd person didn't have the hat.
So if the hat were NHH, NHN, the 2nd person would know that he have the hat.
and he wouldn't talk when it's HHH, HHN, HNH, HNN.
about a long while later (almost time's up), neither the 2nd or the 3rd person talked, the first person would know, it's because he have the hat, that's why the previous 2 are afraid to say "I have a hat", which covers the case HHH, HHN, HNN, HNH

You have a barrel of oil, and you need to measure out just one gallon. How do you do this if you only have a three-gallon container and a five-gallon container?
If your sock drawer has 6 dotted socks, 4 brown socks, 8 white socks, 12 black socks, and 2 tan socks, how many socks would you have to pull out in the dark to be sure you had a matching pair?
Oil
Fll the 3-gallon container twice and pour to fill up the 5-gallon container: 3 + 3 = 5 + 1 (extra, which is left in the 3 gallon container)
Socks
I personally hate doing things without being able to use my eyes lol. Anyway: since we eliminate the situation where we have no matching socks, which means only 5 socks (one each type), drawing 6 will guarantee a matching pair at least.
@ Dark:
1.)
Snce they're guaranteed to be tagged wrongly:
- Take 1 tag from the first box, open it to investigate the color inside.
- Take the matching tag from the so-called 2nd box and tag that box.
- Take the tag on the 3rd box and put it on the 2nd box (since the tag doesn't belong to the 3rd box, and the 1st box already has its tag), and place the tag on your hand on the 3rd box.
2.)
The gold and silver chest have the same statement, therefore each of them can't be telling a lie while the other tells the truth. They can't both be lying as well since the portrait can't be in 2 boxes (Lead box will have to tell the truth.) Conclusively, they have to be telling the truth, and the Lead box, as the rule stated, has to be lying. The portrait is in the Gold Box, brb buying nx.

2.
- Cross with the sheep, wolf does not eat cabbage. Come back and take the cabbage over. Leave the cabbage on the destination shore and bring the sheep back. Bring the wolf over, again, wolf doesn't eat cabbage. Come back to get the sheep.

I have a few riddles if they count. "We are very little creatures; all of us have different features. One of us in glass is set, one of us you'll find in jet. Another you may see in tin, And a fourth is boxed within. If the fifth you should pursue, it can never fly from you. What are we?"
"Cannot be seen, cannot be felt, cannot be heard, cannot be felt. It lies behind the stars and beneath the hills. Ends life and kills laughter. What is it?"
"What builds up castles, tears down mountains, makes some blind, helps others to see?"
"In a tunnel of darkness lies a beast of iron. It can only attack when pulled back. What is it?"

Answer
9567 + 1085 = 10652
Reasoning (this is what went on my mind chronologically, so I'll just copy/paste
__S-E-N-D
__M-O-R-E
M-O-N-E-Y
s + 1 = 10 + o = 10 or
s + 1 = 10 + o = 11, which means: o = 1 (rejected)
=>
s + 1 = 10 => o = 0 => e + o < 10 => s = 10 - 1 = 9
(if e + o = 10, n = 0 so no way in hell)
======================================================
e + o = n and o = 0 => e + o + 1 = n
=> n = e + 1
=>
n + r = 10 + e, or
n + r = 10 + e - 1
If:
e + 1 = e + 10 - r => r = 9 (rejected)
e + 1 = e + 10 - 1 - r => r = 8
n + 8 > 10 => n > 2
=> n -> [4, 5, 6, 7], e -> [3, 4, 5, 6]
Because n = e + 1
n + 8 = e + 1 + 8 = (10 + e) - 1 => d + e > 10
However, y can't be: 0, 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 => y -> [2, 3, 4]
If y = 2 => d + e = 10 + 2 => d = 7, e = 5, n = 6
check: 9567 + 1085 = 10652 (correct)
If y = 3 => d + e = 10 + 3 => d = 7, e = 6, n = 7 (rejected)
If y = 4 => d + e = 10 + 4 => even larger so nothx.
