Thanks for the warning. I will never pick up a Time Temple or Ellin Foerst card!

I sent a ticket. I hope they answer and that, at least...

TKWizard Wrote:Nexon Japan did NOTHING.. Were the books eventually regulated though? Or did everyone's cards get messed up forever? Million dollar question. IsaacGS Wrote:For people who are like "What's the big deal?" let me paint you a little scenario: That's not really a proper analogy. If your Hermit suddenly has maxed Double Stab instead of Lucky Seven, you're screwed. Your gameplay experience changes dramatically because you've lost use of an important skill. Monster Book is entirely for collector's value. It doesn't change gameplay. It doesn't cost NX to reset your stats back. When you sign on to the whole "collect them all" thing, you're doing so with the knowledge that the cards are worthless in the first place. They're not $100 and $1 bills. They're a Charizard and a Rattata. I can understand why those of you that actually care about Monster Book would be upset, but personally I'd love if my Skeles got reset to 1 and a couple of other cards got maxed. Another hour of 1.15x on monsters that I collect way too many cards of anyway. I've probably wasted 5-6 Skele cards a piece. On a side note, I've only picked up an Eye of Time monster card and that didn't change anything in my book.
Nexon Japan doesn't compensate for pomegranate... The game could crash and everyone loses all of their characters, money, items, Nexon Cash, or whatever and Nexon Japan wouldn't do ANYTHING. The only thing they'd do is tell us to recreate our characters the best we can... Hell, they don't even give 2x events AT ALL like GMS does. The only 2x exp events Nexon Japan gives is 24 hours of 2x for people who own 2x exp cards on holidays (and no, it's not 4x exp).

It's a bit like using a chaos scroll on your monster book every time you pick up one of those cards.

Money you own in game is worthless in the first place. Quests you did are worthless in the first place. Monsters you killed are worthless in the first place. This is a game. Everything you aim for is something you do that is worthless in the first place. Or maybe it's the opposite. While some aim for a lv 8 monster book, others do so for a lv 200 character.

Alloy Wrote:"monster book cards are worthless in the first place" Money you own in the game has real value. You need levels to experience more content. Quests are mostly worthless, too, but some quests give you money or exp, and you need 800 for the Quest Specialist medal. I like doing quests, as I'm sure you like filling your monster book. But you can't do anything with a level 8 monster book. You can't kill monsters with it. You can't make money with it. You can't play monster card games. There's no monster book rankings. You can't even show it to other people in-game. It's just a personal ambition thing. Dusk Wrote:Money you own in the game has real value. You need levels to experience more content. It's not that different, I think. In fact, some people level just to be able to get the top cards. Suddenly, everything you mentioned goes below the book. Money, level, gear. Lv 200 people just have their books left, and I believe they won't think of it as worthless.

Lv 200 people just have their books left, and I believe they won't think of it as worthless. Here's an example of levelling unlocking more content. Can you see that I'm making a distinction between main content and side collector's content? You don't have to collect every single treasure and item to beat I dunno, Tales of Symphonia. Well, you could argue that you don't have to play it or get past the beginning at all, but then you're missing out on the story and the gameplay, and from there you go into a "well isn't everything a waste of time then" argument. The main content of the game is to play through the storyline, and everything else is just to provide distractions to enhance replay value and overall gameplay experience. The main content of MapleStory is the killing monsters, and the party quests. I'm not saying "who cares it's just monster book," because obviously a lot of you guys do care, but my first post was just to question Isaac's analogy, in which he compared messing up your monster book to messing up your skills.

does it only affect high level books? mine's lvl 2 and nothing has changed in the boss tab

ArbalistMaster Wrote:does it only affect high level books? mine's lvl 2 and nothing has changed in the boss tab No. If you've looted any Time Temple cards, it'll end up shuffling a random few when you log off. I hardly have anything in my Monster Book except for the PQ cards. I would like to finish it eventually when I get closer to end-game for my NL, but now my PQ bosses are all screwed up. >_> I only looted one, also.

Ah, but my point is that you level for that stuff. Rendering the goal useless/glitched is what makes people angry. Imagine the quests suddenly lost all text, with you still letting to complete them via quest helper. Few people would care, but there'd still be people wanting to know the stuff said. My other point is: every part makes the whole. Start screwing with a part, as small as it can be, and you are screwing the whole. Why say it's a worthless thing, when other people can say the same of other stuff? It's not as important as skills, because cards don't drop as attacks are used, but you can't deny it's a good incentive for most people. And the goal of reaching further only changes in variety of where to hunt, nothing else. Only bosses make a little twist, but not much more. In fact, outleveling pqs is loosing content...

Anyone try looting after the server check?
![]() Seems to be server sided as some stated.

JoeTang Wrote:Lol Nexon. Or w/e the heck they're doing. I wouldn't be surprised if the card count number is only 2 bits long, and the whole thing is compacted into two integer's worth of data per monster whose cards you've obtained. Absence of said data assumes you have no monster cards for that particular monster. (yay computer puzzles xD) In all honesty, I think the error we're getting is a predictable one, and Nexon America should be able to reverse it and fix it >_> Unless they don't have backup data... GameMX Wrote:Anyone try looting after the server check? I'm with those people. The screwed up Monster Book didn't happen until I relogged. Seems like whenever the client program closes, it sends all the character data and stuff to the servers, and the servers process stuff and stores it. I mean, what are you going to do with Monster Book, h4x it and destroy MapleStory?

I would like to know why this has turned into an argument of why the monster book is worth it when this thread was created to inform us of the glitch in the game, not argue worth of the monster book. I know the book can't be fixed until nexon decides to fix it but I still came to this thread for answers only to find 75% of it debating over the book's worth.
To the problem with the book: I've logged a ticket last night which has yet to be answered (go figure). Since we don't know how nexon will fix this, can we speculate that it is still safe to pick up cards lower leveled than the new additions without them being affected by however they decide to fix their glitch? Dusk Wrote:Here's an example of levelling unlocking more content. Can you see that I'm making a distinction between main content and side collector's content? The main content of the game is to play through the storyline, and everything else is just to provide distractions to enhance replay value and overall gameplay experience. Why do you keep assuming something is not important just because it's not important to you. I think main and side content on maple (or any game for that matter) is subjective. Some people only train, some only do quests, some just sit in town chatting with their buddies, some collect cards. Just because it's of no consequence to your own playing style doesn't make it more or less relevant. Idk what your motivation on MS is, but say it's training. Just plain ol grinding. So you have your main character.. idk maybe a pally or a hero which has been slower to train than other classes, but after all your effort you've gotten to say.. level 180 and your hard work is paying off. Now let's say, one day you decided to make a cleric and level it up just enough for it to be a HS mule, so you got it to level 80. One day you log on and your warrior is level 80 and you have a 180 bishop. weeeeee. Or maybe your thing is doing quests, and you've managed to get some of the annoying quests that make you travel all around maple 1000 times out of the way. You log on and some of the easier quests you hadn't done moved to your completed list and the annoying quests are back on your available tab. awesome. My point is, even if this time Nexon's incompetence didn't affect the game in the areas you consider important, you could at least try to be sympathetic to the people it did affect instead of just saying monster book isn't as important as other areas of the game. And back on the original subject, I've sent a ticket as well. And it'd be nice if the people who read this thread helped send one to try and get Nexon's attention. |
