Woo what a weekend. Driving to DC is probably the second worse thing I've ever had to do. NY still tops it. We had this primo spot at this hotel, which I would recommend to anyone going to DC, the E`nfant. The location is just amazing. We were 10 minutes away from every Smithsonian, from a fresh market fish place, and this great restaurant " The Ebbit grill", may have an "old" somewhere in there but I can't remember. The place had a lottttt of senators in there, really high standing place, but we got there during this festival they have. It was pretty much a buffet of the freshest seafood (all you can eat oysters(the raspberry ones are AMAZING) shrimp, clams and crab cakes) with like the top 20 wines in the area all for like $45, soo worth it.
Unfortunately the hotel pool was closed and we had a rocky start at the beginning, by the end of it though it was the best possible circumstances. I decided to keep the clover as it's significance wasn't as much as these sea shell crafts we found. We took the metro to "old king street" which is essentially a 20 minute long road of nothing but small mom and pops shop, there was a childrens bookstore that had these seashell kits these kids would make. They were so goddam adorable and we each got the closest one to each other. Mine being an old turtle with a fishing hat...LOL. All and all it was a fantastic trip and I'm glad I was able to be a good host. It was my first time alone in DC, I wing'd it and came out alive.
Oh also the gardens were gorgeous, although they nearly killed me because of allergies lol. And I died at the minerals, I wanted to buy all of them ;-;.

Was my brother's birthday today so we all went out for sushi.
Gave my brother $50 to help him pay for the desktop he's trying to build.

It's been years since I had a job interview, a bit nervous. Going out to get a haircut soon, need to smarten up a bit

Congrats!
OT: The soonest my internet provider can get out to my apartment is 2 weeks. Looks like I'll have to study in the campus library.

It's my ex's birthday today (well, possibly back together for a few weeks now but I don't think anything official?).
She's been really depressed lately. Never experienced anything like this with anyone before so I don't know how bad it is but I felt like it was really bad. She's been to a therapist but can't afford payments anymore and her family won't help her.
I'm gonna stop saying personal things now and get to the reason of this post:
I sent her presents I picked up from Mexico and Grand Cayman when I went on my cruise this summer. On a side note, first time buying a girl presents for her birthday. I got a necklace (in her favorite color), sand and seashells from the beach in Mexico, and some Japanese trinkets I knew she liked (Japanese heritage).
I had been planning on ordering flowers as well for a while and I kept putting it off but I managed to order them yesterday as well. They turned out very lovely
I'm pretty sure I made her day, and I feel like I helped with her depression a little (not sure since I'm not an expert of course)
I'm really happy I did that. Today was pretty awesome.

First time playing Trumpet instead of a Clarinet today because of how my band is completely shorthanded with Trumpets, and the only two are seniors. It's a far ways from a woodwind instrument, but I'll manage...somehow...I don't know how.
Anyways, my ex yelled at me for assuming that I was still chasing after her. Needless to say, I was giving off mixed signals...it was either or. Idk, terrible at this kind of stuff. I'm leaving that alone.
...Oh yea, looks like I'm getting a PS4 on launch after all!

I did the same thing back in middle school. Holy hell did I have to throw out everything I knew about clarinet and music.
As for me, I talked to one of my friends today since he's been depressed as well.
He told me he may have p'enis cancer and that doctors did a biopsy (and will most likely do chemo as well, regardless if it's benign or malignant). I'm really concerned. I'm one of the few people that he trusts with this kind of information. I'll be keeping him in my thoughts.
Note: He's only 21.
He's now out of a relationship, his car is dead, and his grandpa isn't going to recover from a stroke.
I know I say that my life sucks a lot, but....after hearing the troubles he's going through, I feel like a real d-bag complaining about my life.

I am HOME, also had internet set up today, so that's a plus.
Alberta and Saskatchewan are such boring provinces to drive through. Although once we hit Banff it was pretty decent. Stopped along the way to do some sight-seeing, like the Columbia Ice Field (in the picture below). Drove through Whistler/Blackcomb as well, albeit off season, it was still nice. It's lovely to be home, though now I need to find a job on campus as well as try to furnish the place ;-;

So apparently I only logged 120 hours for my nuclear physics job over the summer, which is like three weeks full time, so I'm pretty disappointed in myself.
At minimum wage ($7.25 in NY) it would come out to be ~$750 after taxes but my boss just told me "let's round up to $1000"
I'm ok with this

So, I just went to Karaoke this morning. (I never went to one before).
Played Human by The Killers.
At the end of the song everyone congratulated me for my performance.
Felt great to sang with an audiance.

Virginia is a beautiful state, but it definitely feels good to be back in Texas.
Start of the fall semester on Monday; biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, biomedical writing, and cell processes. It's gonna be awesome.

There was this funky smell in my room so I decided to sniff around like a dog to find out what it was and it turns out it was coming from my garbage can. When I took a whiff I immediately started coughing and my throat went dry(wut) because the smell was so nasty. I quickly cleaned the garbage can, took a nap and now I'm wide awake (and coughing kind of frequently)

The tension whiten the band is just something else, and it pisses me off people make a fuss over the smallest things. Still, it's a second family to me. A very dysfunctional family.
...Joyous.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person that jokes about being able to see from one end of Manitoba and Saskatchewan to the other.
