Got the wii u mk8 bundle yesterday, but I don't have a TV to play it on yet. (Just a minor set back...)
You guys are getting me really excited to play the game though. Great to read so much positive stuff!

It'll auto detect that their is no visual input and default straight to the gamepad? :f6:

No. Activating off tvplay varies by game (if it's even supported). You have to do it manually in any case. Mario Kart 8 has a button on the gamepad (top right of the screen, it's a small icon that looks like it's showing gameplay) that you press to make it show the same thing as on your tv.
I think you need a tv for the initial wii u setup though.

Alrighty. Thanks for the info. I'll see what I can figure out by poking around a bit.

The game sold over 1.2m copies over the weekend. Not bad for a almost dead console.
That puts it at 6th best selling game on the console behind Mario 3D world , NSMBU, NSLU, Wii party U and Nintendo land.

The release of Mario Kart 8 also boosted Wii U sales in the UK by over 600%.

To be brutally honest, that means nothing. It's probably still less than 10k units sold for that week.

All it needs is maybe a DLC or a patch to fix battle mode and it'd be perfect

Finally got a chance to play some MK8. 3-star 50cc, which isn't really surprising.
Played a bit of online before calling it for the night. Sitting at 1221 VR. Online is still crazy if you don't pull ahead early, but it's not as chaotic as MKWii, IMO, due to Nintendo lessening the "Item Rape".
The item distribution based on placement seems rather weird. I've gotten the Super Horn in 1st plenty of times and I recently got Crazy 8 in 3rd place during an online race.

And a patch to fix the "Room Vote" glitch.
For people who don't know:

EDIT: Looks like MK8 can "Brick" the Wii U if it crashes after a race.
There's reports of this being a Digital only thing and that going from Digital to Physical can also cause this to occur.

Coin item is too freaking common in 1st and 2nd place, especially when you can get it 2/3/4 times in a row. Granted the general consensus seems to be holding the item until you either get to the next set of item boxes or you get hit with something, since the coin item cannot be destroyed by any means.
Played more online and I stopped at 1500ish VR for the time being. I've started seeing people in the upper 2000s (2900ish being the highest).
I've been using the "Overpowered" bike setup with Rosalina, as people are dubbing it, and while it's indeed very strong, I've been noticing people sweep races with karts that give +0.5 speed, which is generally Mach 8 / Golden Kart / etc.

In case people haven't already seen this. A technique was discovered recently that allows you to keep your boost speed for a very slightly longer duration. Everyone uses it in the Time Trial world records, and apparently it's starting to catch on online, even though I have yet to see anyone actually do this.

Honestly, kinda dislike this.
It's just going to be annoying to add that to your playstyle if you want to beat certain ghost trials.
Thanks for the video though.

I really want them to patch the communication errors online. Literally spent 30 minutes trying to get into a game last night and every time someone would cause the error to happen <_<

Pretty easy to see in this video

I thought the fire hopping thing wasn't a big deal until I heard it can't be done with Bikes and so will render bikes useless if everyone starts using it.
Hopes for a fix.

Goddamnit, can we not have a mario kart that doesn't get some stupid glitch(/condition?) that you have to take part in to win, even worse when it instantly nulls any serious use of a large number of karts (in this case the inward drift bikes)

Well I didn't know mk8 could brick the console...
Been playing mh3u nonstop on the WiiU just fine.
Was playing mk8 2 player local just fine.
Went online a couple of hours and my WiiU shut down. Called nintendo support and they told me to wait 48hrs before trying to turn back on the console but that didn't work either.
I tried today with another a/c adapter and my WiiU turned on I hope this is a big coincidence because it would suck if mk8 had anything to do with it.
