Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Probably gonna play a human Archer through the open beta. I won't buy the game though, unless it blows my mind.

Yeah that's where I am with this, nothing about it really screams more than it should be F2P. :| Hopefully it'll prove me wrong though.

They spent a lot on making A Realm Reborn especially considering how badly the original bombed. I hope it stays P2P as not only does it remove annoying children but also gives room for way more improvements than the F2P model.

So here are some things that SE revealed during the Live Letter earlier this morning.

• Phase 4 is August 17th - 19th. (16th - 19th for previous testers)
  
• Early Access is August 24th - 26th.
  
• Arcanist is ready and will be implemented for Phase 4.
  
• Arcanist is confirmed to be DD/DPS oriented, not a healer.
  
• A level 20 cap limit is in place for Phase 4.
  
• All progress from Phase 4 transfers, so long as there is no major bugs.
  
• Subscription time cards will be made available.
  
• Veteran Rewards, depending on what subscription time you purchase, are confirmed.
  
• PVP (Level 30+) and housing for Phase 4 and fishing!
  
• Holiday/Seasonal events with vanity gear.
  
• Crystal Tower implementation pushed back for later patch.
  
• Duty Finder may be used for the Crystal Tower.
  
• Barber/Beauty shop planned for 2.1 patch. (includes: Hair style/Color, Facial Hair, Eye Color, Tattoo/Color, Face Paint/Color.)
  
• Implementation of Race/Sex change.
  
• Job-Artifact Quests: Confirmed soloable w/ NPC help.
  
• Unicorn Mount confirmed. (Must unlock through CNJ/WHM quests, but will be available for other Class/Job use after unlocked.)
  
• World Service Transfer confirmed (Up to a possible 8 characters.)
  
• "Libra Eorzea" mobile app. confirmed! First for iOS, then Android OS at a later date.
  
• Moogle Primal fight confirmed for ARR.
  
• Bahamut's Labyrinth confirmed to have story/lore for what happened in the last days of 1.23/"End of Eorzea" video.

I'm pretty sure the "Veteran Rewards" are an accumulation type deal. As in if you have been subscribed for 90 days you get it, not that you need to buy the 90 day subscription.

Well, the official Client is out; it can be downloaded from the Beta forums but you can't patch until the 15th(I think). That's going to be so bothersome, a ridiculously large patch that will probably end up being 5GB+.

If you can patch on the 15th, I don't think the large size will be a problem for most people, since even EARLY access is a day later on the 16th, and full access to the beta is on the 17th.

By the way, I am really hyped about this for some reason. Maybe it's because I've been playing three different FF games on my 3DS? I don't knoooooowwwww

That's because you had the "real" beta, "beta client" not the new "not really beta because this is what's going live" client that the game will use from now on. It was in one of the emails.

I can kind of see why they were separate, but I don't remember getting any email about it being a different client; maybe I needed to be signed up for the newsletter. The only one I got had mentioned that if you didn't already have it, download it at *link* (the one mentioning that the test would start today, got it on Wednesday). Oh well, not a big deal.

Either way....14/20 servers are locked out for character creation at the moment, including Hyperion, which sucks. Gonna wait around on the server select because there's no mention of a free server transfer in the future after populations stabilize.

My email was conveniently located in my junk folder, so yours may have ended up there as well. Also, being the impatient twat that I am, I made my Arcanist in a JP server because I couldn't wait any longer while the NA servers were not up (why were they not even up?). Now I am level 14, and one monster energy drink deep, and I don't know if I want to start over in an NA server. ASDF

DPS queue times in the Duty Finder are abysmal, as expected. 1.5 hours just to get into the first party dungeon and 0.5 hours to get into the second one.

Oddly enough my old main character is on Ragnarok. I have no idea how or why I created in the EU originally.

I've hated EU servers in games ever since EMS, bad times.

Still got my Monk, White Mage and Black Mage though.

I am highly miffed that I have manually rearrange my inventory to put all my gear into my armory.

I didn't play the original FFXIV; didn't have a PC that could run it back then. I am however highly enjoying Fishing and Arcanist.
