Legend is subjective. She was a terrific musician who brought a jazzy style all her own. I think Cobain sounded like absolute pomegranate but he's in said "27 club"

Mentioning something relating to this. Her sales shot up and her album is now No. 9 on the Billboard Top 100 this week. Her physical and digital sales shot up like none other.

People did this with Michael Jackson too, keep in mind. I can almost guarantee that most of the people that are defending her right as a musician haven't listened to her song in the past few months, year, or hell, maybe even ever. But now that she is gone and making headline news it's time to call her a magnificent singer, one that you didn't even listen too. It was a selfish move on her part to continue doing things she self admitted to knowing would be the end of her; which is also a weird thing to see the people defending her as a person. Once again, I'm sure if people had the chance and she wasn't dead and suddenly an Amy Winehouse discussion opened up, a lot of the people wouldn't had been saying the oh so endearing stuff about how she was a great person despite her drug addictions and oddball antics.

I liked Michael Jackson before he died, I didn't like him anymore than I did prior to his death, after it. I didn't like Amy Winehouse before she died, and I still don't. For the people in this thread, if you were true fans then more power to you, but I just get the feeling that this happens a lot when someone famous dies. People jump on others that attack now dead celebrity like they wouldn't of done if they were still alive.

Gary Thain, Bryan Ottoson, Sean Patrick McCabe, Rudy Lewis, Alan Wilson aren't legends. But are commonly mentioned, alongside other singers and artists, who died because of drugs, suicide or any tragic death at 27 years old. There are other members that aren't even known for most people, but regardless can be included in the "27 club".

That club, is made of Robert Johnson, Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse alongside many other artists, these are the most famous ones mentioned as members of the club.
The reason they are in there is the fact they're artists, that had a death because of one of the reasons mentioned above, at 27 years old. The question if they're considered legends or not, talented or not, good or bad, is too subjective to be the reason they are in there.

Robert, Kurt, Brian, Janis, Jimi, Jim and Amy are the most remarkable members or the club, the ones that are remembered more oftenly, not the only members.

Yea. It's what GMSInfighter mentioned too. From how Michael Jackson's fans were scared of saying so before he died, because he was just looked as a "pedophile" or some pomegranate, but once he died, boom, people looked at him as a legend and forgot everything they said, beginning a MJ bandwagon.
What happened to her is the same.

I've liked her since she released Back to Black back in 2008. Though i can only like some of her songs, Back to Black, Tears dry on their own, Rehab and my favourite, that is You know i'm no good, since i'm not really a fan of her other songs before this album.
And because of those, specially the last one, i can say she's a pretty different singer from the others in her generation, beginning on the fact she's not an autotuned empty artist. She may not be THAT good as people in the 27 club, since these are more likely very remarkable and can't be compared to her. She's not a goddess, but a pretty awesome singer, with the lack of control equal to her talent.

Still, for her generation, she's pretty unique, and one of the only ones that could actually do such a mix of Blues and Jazz that gone well, as well as that voice control. She's not a legend, and can't even be compared to the other legends of the club, but still, she's been pretty before her death. But, regardless, this part is more likely about taste than anything else.

Just because people commonly accept things as "correct" simply based on perpetuation and repetition doesn't mean they aren't all wrong. Everybody CAN be wrong you know, it's not like when everyone is in agreement on something wrong it suddenly becomes right....
