But everyone else is soloing Zakum 45 seconds faster .
Yes, I miss it. What is so odd is, I was unable to level after 70 before big bang, and thought leveling faster would be more fun. I leveled my mechanic from 1 to 142 in about 2 months. And realized it was not more fun than before only because I could level. I would love to go hardcore on old maple and see if I can actually get to a high level.
While I miss old Maple I don't hate what New Maple is. The community and the game it's self is two different things. I hate the community of Scania with a BURNING passion but I don't hate the game and have come to love it more then I used too. Just because the game has changed doesn't mean your playing habits should. I still explore the new areas and do the quests, I still train spots that "I'm not suppose to train in", I still do everything I used to do, just in a "different" world.

I wouldn't mind it if it weren't for the fact that Nexon is balancing all future content AROUND the system itself. PB was the first example of where a boss was only killable if you used the system in the first place.
I know you're being sarcastic, but when Horntail can get solo'd in a mere 30min as opposed to it taking 1+ hours in a full group, you know there's something wrong.
I miss hunting for Arwen's glass shoe and actually leveling several times in the process. And struggling to find a map that didn't have a hacker in the top right corner and items falling from the sky. I used to sit and watch, hoping the shoe would drop. It did, once, but someone came and stole it.
I miss the old community. I even miss the older henehoes. People were so much more fun back then. Nostalgic raving that no one cares about, commencing:

Did anyone else ever form a team of complete strangers and venture into the sleepywood dungeon? These days, you can't even go there until you're level 50, and if you encounter anyone along the way they'll just fire a missile at you and ask you to vacate the map. And forget escorting lost newbies (who took the VIP cab from Lith Harbor) out of the dungeon; victoria island isn't even remotely dangerous anymore.
Speaking of danger, there's no thrill for the player, and certainly no exploration; his or her hand is held through a linear experience. Maple island is a straight shot. Back in the day, beginners used to live on that island because it was so much bigger, and they called themselves Islanders because of it. The player's first weapon is given to him. The player's first potions are stockpiled for him. The first levels are accomplished in a "training zone" located just outside of town, effectively discouraging exploration. People can't even reliably hit monsters a few levels above them, so their options are limited and their path is consequently set in stone.
The game is more user-friendly because of this, but it also ensures that a new player never needs to ask for help, and we are seeing the effects of that already. The whole community feels closed off, isolated. Haven't you noticed how it's harder to meet new people in this game? Or how quiet boat rides have become? It's because people don't need anyone anymore. A few years ago, the game had mystery. It wasn't user friendly, but that made its veterans all the more valuable because they knew pomegranate. They knew where Pig Beach was, and you could bet that you had to ask about its location back then, because hidden streets weren't glowing and screaming "here, here, I'm a hidden street!" at the player. They knew where the new player could train, and the new player had to ask because he couldn't just open the map and find it himself. People had to rely on each other somewhat, and the community was better for it, not worse. Older players felt good about the time they wasted on a game that offered no real world value, and new players felt cool because they accessed content that everyone and his dog wasn't already aware of. And maybe they befriended the person who helped them.
And sure, the new player could always go to hidden-street.net or something, but who do you think referred him there in the first place? Do you see what I'm getting at? One way or another, players relied on each other. They don't have to anymore. Hell, when you get strong enough, you can solo bosses that used to take several teams. It is absolutely ridiculous how single-player oriented this multiplayer game has become. It's done nothing but suffer as a result.

It's pay-for-power in the most direct and extreme way possible. It makes it even more obvious that MapleStory is a game where the richer you are, the more powerful you are.
who knows hopefully next jump update gives us it back... (I want to believe)
Hah. that was one of the last awesome events on maple before everything went fucked up.
that PQ always made me smile, when trying to talk to someone else on the other team, all they see is Owoooooooooooooooo. and they just stand there :f6:ing like your a complete idiot xD It's sad now through, maple no longer has that sense of random fun, which is prob the reason most of you started to play and love the game.

I miss the much every single player got excited when they knew a new town was supposed to come out. Who doesn't remember how KFT and Omega Sector were exciting to be explored. Exploring... That was the best experience. Everyone was always happy when an update was implemented, when it happened, players used to think on how it was an opportunity to do new quests, in the times people actually cared to quests and how they used to reveal pieces of the game' story, and how a new area, although low leveled for the player, was nice to be explored. Spending a lot of time in graphic improvement of the maps, in creativity, was worth it because players actually cared about such things, instead of this EXP mania that we can see today.
Now, when a new area is implemented, players immediately care about:
Is it a godly leveling area, or just another alternative to the level range? If it's not something THAT great, it's just useless, like Chryse.
What does the last quest in the cycle gives? If it's not a decent equip, it's not worth going there.
No one cares about how the story will continue, if the areas are beautiful or not, if the story's interesting, about exploring, and actually having fun by doing so. No one has interest in such things, the new areas are just being made to implement a new job, or to just be in there with a completely awful storyline. MapleStory has changed drastically since the old times.
It's something you have to deal with, something that won't make you quit completely, but it's something that makes you miss the old days, where leveling twice in a week at 5x was worth it and nice, when completing and equipping a new equip set, acquired through hard work, felt good, about the true fantasy players had by that time, where you could actually live the game.
It just changed too much, it's not that the game became terrible, but the fact it doesn't even look close to the awesome game it used to be. Today, exploring new areas just for fun, waiting until your MP regenerates to hunt more, collecting equips, doing party quests all day and praying for getting an item in the bonus, feeling excited when a new job was implemented, instead of feeling like "Meh, another one" like you can see today. The game has changed enough, to make it look like a completely different game. What was said in Big Bang was true, because after it, the game truly changed completely.
My words. You took them from me. My sentiments exactly. I wasn't one of the Quest Kings 3 years running just for some cheap comparative achievment; I enjoyed it. Although; and maybe my patience has declined; I've had no real interest in re-doing all the quests again after BB. I can't place my finger on it, but it doesn't feel the same.
Also I miss going to FoG and CCing around having people ASK if you wanted to join a party as you came by, rather than being told to get lost. One more thing I miss is the time before uber stat common hats which everyone wears.
Basically everything else has already been said here that I would say, just as in any other nostagia thread.

the music the background the clothes everything here was so nice
we should ask nexon to bring it back... who know? they took out the 7th day market by popular demand
I miss when the cash shop wasn't a scam to get loads of cash (lol). Back when it first came out it was...EXP Cards and Clothes. EXP Cards weren't nearly the scam Cubes are.
I mean, think about it...with this Potential system you basically NEED NX to get any good gear, unless you're INSANELY lucky.
If the Potential System wasn't reliant on the Cash Shop, it wouldn't be so bad.

While a lot of posts make nice points, this post probably expresses everything the best.
There are some things that I don't miss such as scrounging for pot money, but the game has changed too much. I'd say one of the biggest issues (excluding hackers and whatnot) is the potential system. Some things I do like about the new MS is cheaper pots and maybe easier leveling, though part of me feels it may be too fast in the early levels.
Also, I really hate Lionheart and all future places like it. It completely ruins the exploration to find new training grounds and condenses it all into one main area. The only thing good about Lionheart is the party system, but something like that should have been around much earlier.

completely agree, heck, i used to find so many people around when i was bored of training, now it's so hard, everyone is training at LHC and doesn't like to be bothered.

I've been on both sides of the fence on this one. Yeah, I do miss the "old maple days", when all my friends in real life played together, and we'd go explore things, train, hunt for things together, when every single archer knew every single other archer (Archer Council! lololol), etc.
That being said, games change. Its inevitable. Things will ALWAYS change, and in the end, you gotta come to accept it. The old days were fun, but these new days are just as fun. There is nothing preventing anyone from having fun other than the boxes we lock ourselves in, saying "Old maple was funner". I remember having so much fun with a friend that rainbow week event a few weeks/months ago, where you had to turn in crayons for a cloud robe. Yeah, it was silly, the event kinda sucked, it was kinda pointless and all, but it was fun. We had fun with the notion of turning pot (used with a different meaning of course) into crayons, and slowly collecting crayons for this robe with crappy stats. It's also fun to reveal random items you find with hidden potential, just to have them turn 3 line on reveal, but with 3% INT on an archer shoe or something.
That being said, hackers can ruin "fun" real fast. I only play this game when it's fun, and I had "fun" collecting maple weapons at hobis, and training my mech at sage cats for maple weapons to trade to coins. It's fun collecting things, till you realize a hacker can do the exact same thing, but in minutes instead of days. There are still "fun" elements to the game, if you just open up your mind to it, and enjoy it for what it is. It might not be the same fun as 6 years ago, but it's still fun nonetheless.
Haven't read these posts but I don't miss old Maple. This game is better than it has ever been.
I find the community is not as close/worth logging on for compared to before. I admit I'm jealous of current leveling rates but hey that's probably inevitable.

How I remembered:
Day before patch: OMG everyone new town is coming out omg!!!
Day of patch: People everywhere, impossible to do quests
Day after that: *ghosttown*
Nah old maple wasn't that much better. Dudewitbow's wall of text makes alot of sense to me.
