LOL AT BLOC QUEBECOIS. 2 seats. HERP DERP. I'm impressed with the NDP but dissapoint with how conservatives got majority.

Wow, Gilles Duceppe lost. Not that I really knew much about him and his party beside their ideals of sovereignty.

Wow, I'm a little shocked Ignatieff is losing in his riding at the moment to a Conservative. I thought he'd win. :x

Are you for real? After all of the Conservative mud-slinging against his (awful separatist) character, this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

The reason to the conservatives won tonight is because people are idiots who 1. believe attack ads and 2. see lower taxes as a good thing because they don't know anything about government.

Everyone just needs to pray that NDP wins next election to reverse any damage the Conservatives do this term.

Well honestly, since he is/was the leader of the Liberal party, I thought more people would have voted for him. He wasn't off by that much from Conservative.

NDP are far from perfect. It's pretty arrogant of you to call the nation stupid because Canadians preferred Conservatives over the NDP. I guess the Conservative Party must be the most idiotic group of people in the country because they don't think like Sarah.

I certainly did not pay attention to the attack ads and I voted for the party I believed in the most. Oh well, 4 more years.

Edit: Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I heard on CTV News, Layton gained much ground (especially in Quebec, where a significant portion of their seats originate) because of the lack of attack ads from the NDP and Layton's optimism and plans for the public. Despite this, more Canadians than ever decided that the Conservatives would be best suited to run the country.

People are idiots. I've seen so many people at school talking about voting conservative solely based on what they've heard about Ignatieff and taxes in the commercials.

You may know better, and no offense but everything you've said regarding politics emphasizes your selfish perspective which is the key to conservatism, but most other people vote based on what the see and hear, not even based on what the believe. And most people are too apathetic to do any research and actually find out who represents what they truly want.

The huge problem was the split vote between, get this, the Conservatives and the Liberals. In Ontario too. If Ontario remained liberal, or swung towards the NDP, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Smear Camapaign 101: NEVER smear the cripple. It makes you look like a jerk. Anyways, you seem pretty right wing. I'm surprised considering you said you weren't exactly all that well off. As students, we probably'll get the butt of whatever possible good the Conservatives can make.

Plus, did you know, that 60% of Canadians disapprove of corporate tax cuts? You wanna know why? It's because that means less stress on individual tax payers.

Maybe I am selfish but I'd like to think my views are a fair balance between personal wants and the country's needs, even if my ideas/beliefs are flawed and incorrect. Anyway, time to keep receipts from stuff like piano lessons, soccer practice, and tutors like Sylvan and Kumon. It'll help

I hope the bloc get the crap out. I never liked it in the first place.

Also, I'm happy about the conservatives winning. Just give Harper a chance, guys. He never was majoritar after all, so we can't exactly know what he'll do. Layton, eventhough he looks sooo gentle and nice, would'nt be able to govern my country in my opinion. I'm also happy that he's now the main opposition, so he can actually take part in the decisions but not too much.

I think the Mulroney years are all the proof we need that the next 4 years will be a hell hole.

EDIT: Also I'm sad that Gilles stepped down. As much hate as he gets from the rest of Canada, he was probably the best political leader that I know. He's probably the only leader that truly stuck to his beliefs (including the ones non sovereignty related) and I respect him for not being a two faced politician.

You never know, he might see that the youth vote is going to harm him in the 2015 elections, so he might raise the voting age to like 30 or something. If we even get elections in 2015. He could push the minimum number of years to like 6-10 or something.

To be honest I just don't trust Stephen Harper, and like Sarah said, I wouldn't be impressed. I'm slightly scared he might ban Gay marriage but I don't know his view on it.(I'm not politic-y)

Wouldn't surprise me if he did. Along with limit abortion rights.
