I never quite understood what final mix was/ is....

Is it just a normal version of the games with bonus content or what? And are these only in japan? Are they even official kingdom hearts games at all?

KH2FM seemed fun but I never really understood what it was... I just saw new boss fights and they looked fun.

Final Mix started off as a solution to extra content that America got with the first Kingdom Hearts (remember the desert boss and clocktower boss?) because Japan had a massive hissy fit about it. So they rereleased Kingdom Hearts there with the bosses and a battle against the first member of Organization XIII (Axel) and some extra plot. Since then, every game to date gets a Final Mix rerelease about a year after its primary release with bonus content. And yes they're official.

Don't you mean Xemnas, not Axel? O_o
I'm more so asking since I remember the hooded man using Single / Dual sabers and the "Mirror Guard" ability.

I'm pretty sure the first Final Mix (KH1FM) had Axel as the secret boss, not Xemnas. (edit: nope just looked it up, you're right, it was Xemnas. I never played Final Mix I just vaguely remembered seeing Axel for some reason. Maybe it was CoM)

Also question about BBS: How do you fighting Lingering Spirit Vanitas with Ventus/Terra? Since the final episode is Aqua only there's no way to get to it with the other two yet I see videos of people fighting it with them?

I have not played it yet but I think you just go to the Keyblade Graveyard in the other characters' files after beating the final chapter with Aqua.

Okay, question. Does anyone have any idea who this guy is supposed to be?
I thought lingering vanitas was the last secret boss but I GUESS I WAS WRONG.

No, that always leads to the last battle, even with clear saved files.

Also there's a discussion about him on the first and second page (Mysterious Stranger)

@ Sarah: Baklava had it right, but to add to it, you'll know you unlocked it when you see an extra landing option at keyblade graveyard. It'll take you to an empty map where you'll see a little dark orb/portal type deal. Talk to it to trigger the fight with LSV. Afaik you have to clear that fight in order to unlock the MF fight.

@ Baklava: that is the mysterious figure we've been talking about a couple of posts ago (MF for short). Special boss added to the international version only at first, but ofc is now in BBS:FM. So far we have no confirmed identity on him, however he uses weapons that resemble Xemnas's, granted the two fighting styles are significantly different. Might be a possible connection, but otherwise it is all stipulation.

Also, MF will pineapple your pomegranate. Playing on critical is literally asking to be pineappleed painfully over and over again. FFS @ 7x with Ven on critical mode... and everything he does drops me to 1hp. Not to mention

Have you completed + saved Aqua's final chapter as an additional file? I know you don't have to 100% the game, because that unlocks blank points (secret vid), and I had blank points well after I unlocked the MF fight. Only other thing I can think of is there are additional requirements if you're not playing crit mode. All 3 of my chara files were cleared on that.

I don't think you understand what I'm asking. I've beat Lingering Spirit Vanitas on the Final Episode with Aqua, I know how to get to him. But because Terra and Ventus aren't available in the final episode, I can't get to that section of the graveyard with them, because even with clear save files that area leads to the final battle.

OK yeah, I was confused. What I can say is you don't need to do either of the fights in the final episode itself. All three of the charas can do the fights in their normal saves. As I mentioned earlier, I'm working on the MF fight on my Ven so I know its possible. Other things that might be messing it up, did you save the final episode over your original Aqua file?

Actually, as it turns out I'm a retard. I was mistaking the "Fissure" warp for the first save point that seems to have mysteriously disappeared. (The save point before the tornado valley)

So yeah, the warp was there, I was just overlooking it because I thought it was for something else.

Ahh good! Glad it got cleared up. Which are you going to attempt LSV with next? And any luck with MF yet? I really am in need of tips lol. Actually sitting down to try again now.

I'm going to level everyone up to 99 before bothering with Mysterious Figure or Vanitas. At level 62 on Aqua LVS was a pain in the ass. Not worth it.

LSV is definitely a pain, but doable. I might be with you on the level to 99 before MF though.
Tips for beating LSV (if you want):
