Maplestory2 is coming out in CBT this year(2011)
#41
Some people there are wrong.

The original Maplestory still get them enormous amounts of money. Why would they stop its developpement for maplestory 2, a not-sure-if-it'll-be-working project? I guess they'll just hire new developpers for maplestory 2, continue upgrading maplestory 1 and see if it works.

this is interesting , i remember several years back that there was some false videos of ms2 going around online and i was really disappointed with it. yet at the same time i was also happy like others , im looking forward to getting a better gaming system that can do its job and not have holes in its system and let hackers take over(ie no more dam d/c hacks and duping and vacing). there is only a few things im hoping that will come out of this new ms2 . the first is im hoping that it has some major story connection with ms . another thing i want is to keep the game 2D. i ask this because i dislike the way 3d games work and ms is being known for being a OK 2d MMO (IMO as much as the companies have fucked up with the hacking and stuff it's still a good game) . the last thing im hoping for is maybe a playing a class that isn't on the good side( evans don't count because they change in the middle of the game , i want a forever evil class )

They could easily do something akin to what Capcom does with Monster Hunter.
Although it's not two MMOs, Capcom split the team for Monster Hunter Frontier (the MMO) and the team for the mainstream Monster Hunter titles into completely different offices on the other side of (I think) Tokyo (If not Tokyo, some other major Japanese city). They have literally no connections anymore besides the name and the company. They don't interact, they don't talk to each other (officially at least), etc.
Nexon, if they were smart and wanted to continue to make money off of both, could do the same. For all we know, the MS2 team is in a completely different city in Korea, doing their own thing, with no connections at all to the MS1 team. They both go on their way, do their thing, make their content, and they are essentially different games. They have connections through art style, names, and general themes, but in the end...they are two different teams doing two completely different things and they have no connection at all.

That way both games could be developed, maintained, and completely free to do their own things. If they wanted to do a collaboration deal, that's more then possible as well, since they are still the same company, but it is in no way necessary nor required.

As i recall Maplestory 2 will be in 3d. I don't know about you guys but i certainly do not see maplestory 1 closing down. However, i do see maplestory 2 failing. I feel one of the main selling point of maplestory 1 is the fact that it's in 2d. Maplestory 2 will for sure be a different type of game play comapare to MS1. However, compare to other games that's already out Maplestory is just a another rain drop.

When they are talking about Maplestory 2, couldn't they also be talking about a patch 100x bigger than big bang patch? Until they post screenshots of the place, I'm just going to assume it will be a giant update. I am just hoping Sad

This is the reason why I dont play any... WoW-esque games. Dragonica was PUSHING it. I hate point and click adventures. ._.

Everquest still gets expansions despite Everquest 2.

And as for the issue of how long it would take us to get MS2, surely, if Nexon pushed Mabinogi Heroes/Vindictus enough to get an english version out in less than a year of the korean release, they could do the same for the sequel to their biggest cash cow.

If it's a 2D side scroller it's going to suffer from the same issues maple currently does which is that it's terribly boring and (figuratively) one-dimensional. Maple 2 should go 2.5D like Dragonica because it (literally and figuratively) brings a new dimension to game play. It would finally make strategy at bosses a possibility. If you can't dodge attacks then there will never be strategy in Maple. It would also make jump quests infinitely more fulfilling and fun, also probably more infuriating, but that's what JQs are. It would also open up one of the main things Maple as it is is missing -- EXPLORATION. There is no exploration in Maple right now. You enter a map, you see the map, you leave the map. When hidden streets existed there was a little exploration to be done but even that was largely un-fulfilling.

It would also be nice if they took note of the importance of the single player experience while still giving way to team play accomplishments, like Heroic boss runs in WoW. I'd like to see bosses for most levels (instanced) like in Dragonica, as well as lots of armors with various bonuses that you'll choose based on your play style rather than immediately going for whatever has the highest att. Boss sets would be nice too.

I think Dragonica is the perfect game to look at in terms of what Maple 2 should be, except way more polished.

I'm not a fan of 3D MMOs because they overwhelm me but Maple has really proven that 2D leaves a lot to be desired, and 2.5D gives you the best of both worlds.

I agree completely. I've always wanted a 2.5D MapleStoy due to these exact reasons.

Would be cool if it was a 3D enviornment with 2D characters that was side scrolling.

I'm with you. But they did that with Mabinogi and Vindictus. Even though Vindictus is a prequel to Mabinogi both are still updated regardless. Plus both are played differently which you can pick which adventure you like more. With Maple the ONLY way I can see this working is if it's hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years in the future because what about the classes? Why would they just disappear for no reason? The only way I can see them getting around that plot hole is if its in a new universe all together.

Everplanet? No thanks. (Except Everplanet isn't side scrolling, but... those two concepts don't mesh well.)

They should do what they did with Punch Monster's style of game play. 2.5D world but still mainly side-scrolling.

First of all, this. It'll be a while.

I mentioned somewhere, I think one of the Evil Cygnus threads, you defeat BM (Black Mage, not Battle Mage or Bow Master or whatever) (possibly in the past), and the world changes, maybe after a while. Then I changed it to the change will be in MS2. Which is a viable theory. It would explain why they're making MS2 (Yes, yes, why rework MS, when you can create MS2, but it's stupid to create a whole new game just to balance it out.).

Sorry if that is incomprehensible.

EDIT: Here's my post about it.

Maping Wrote:I mentioned somewhere else, you defeat the Black Mage and Maple World changes, possibly deleting all characters. However, they could leave Maplestory alone, so you can show off your level 200 characters, and MS 2 would take place after you defeat BM, with a happy place that gets screwed over by some new bad guy.

The only downside I dislike of 2.5D games such as Dragonica or Punch Monster, is that when you train, it's, for the most part, 1v1 due to having depth in the map. And it sucks so bad and it's not even fun.

CBT coming later this year huh? I don't suppose anyone can make me a NexonKR account I can have for myself? Big Grin *shot*

But yeah... with very very little details to go on about MapleStory2, I rather withhold judgment until I see for myself.

I would like it to be 3D but like Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, in which the characters are 3D and also the environment but is side scrolling and it can turn into whole 3D for some maps, boss fight and other stuff.

The only problem with the latter part of that theory is that they already went through the pain-staking re-balancing. They did all the work to make the game work, it seems illogical.
Sure, they might have wanted to jump to a new engine, and that's a viable reason, however if they did it to "truly remake the game properly"...then what did they do all last year? Jingle their keys like Adam West, get hit in the face with a brick, and think they were a tomato?

These things all needed to happen, its not a waste - i dont think they will have the same team working on this game.
