Does GMS need the BB patch ASAP?
#41
If it wasn't for the potential system BB would be a lot better IMO. Or at-least the removal of cubes or making them a drop :l. It just makes the people willing to throw half their pay check at the game significantly more powerful than the people who can't do so, which really isn't balanced to me. You're utter crap if you can't potential your equips.

But as others said in this thread, its better for both the players and Nexon to get BB out here, it will not only keep current players, but bring back old ones and attract new ones. Classes are slightly more balanced, animations are updated, etc etc, game is a lot more "fresh" with BB if you will.

Funny, I could have said the same thing when i was 2nd job on my archer about sins. 2nd job is a terrible point to measure class strength

@FrozNLite: No, you misconstrue me. There's a difference between making things balanced for top-tier and making things harder for everyone. As Kabanaw said in the KMS video thread:

Kabanaw Wrote:Why? Pap is level 125. Making it harder for level 200s, who are 75 levels higher, means it will be much harder for anyone actually near its level.

Now Balrog is a lvl 44 boss. Should a level 120, 76 levels above it, have a hard time killing it?

This is my point: if things are too easy for the top player, release content that's appropriate for them and don't screw over average players. It makes much more sense to make higher-difficulty versions of bosses with better rewards or newer, harder bosses than to make it even harder for those without insane funding to do most anything. The best players have something to challenge them while average players can still do something and yet have something to look forward to. This is a game that's "balanced for all players". Also keep in mind that I said that the PD/MDrate should be there, just not that it should be insanely heightened across the board.

And to be honest, I find it hard to believe that "anyone" can solo Pap or Zakum easily before 125.

No they're.... pretty imbalanced across the board right now, though you do make a valid point, even funded sins are being beat by clean DBs right now, and a funded DB just knocks everything out of the park.

Need is a stretch but it would be nice. Also Nexon's post The Visitors alluded to us getting it. To quote: There have been signs that the Black Mage is returning with massive monsters continuing to shake up Maple World by land and sea. It is small wonder then that not many have noticed the skies until now.

Excellent point, and I do agree with you, though lord knows that's something Nexon won't figure out for years.

@Pap: Plenty of people on these forums and others have posted screenshots of solos before 125, people who have never bought NX in their lives, and did it before the potential system was released. That last part's the root caveat of my entire statement as to why "everyone" can now.

I believe the point of releasing potentials before the Big Bang patch was to prevent beginners from quitting en masse after seeing monsters get buffed. If that's the case then no, no version of Maplestory needs Big Bang before people start going "pssh this game is too easy" (*BB sneaks up on them and smacks them hard*) The problem might be high-level bosses may get overcrowded.

Potentials could also have been pre released to get the items started within the community and allowing people to accumulate better items. This would take away some of the undue burden of epic revamp-ness and "too much new stuff i don't know what to do" syndrome.

FrozNlite Wrote:This. That's not to say that, like others have mentioned, the game will all of a sudden "be equalized and hard again." The game was pineappleed the second the potential system was released. At least the Big Bang patch smooths out some of the glaring imperfections a bit.

But only a bit. PD/MDRate is the only safeguard I see that can truly help neutralize/balance the insane damage of all players, and even that is hastily thrown together and poorly applied throughout mobs. For this game to make more sense, all normal mobs should have rates between 30-40, triple/quadruple what they are now, while bosses all have rates 50+, with PB at 75. Even then, that's asking to create a whole new system just to fix something broken in the first place. Why not go back and fix the original problem?

I guess the bottom line is this: remember when we could glitch PYPQ to get the 400% damage buff outside Ariant for an hour? Everyone was abusing it trying to do the best pomegranate in town, like downing PB, which never occurred. We've now killed PB a good couple of weeks into the potential patch. That should tell you how OP'd and poorly done the system is.

I don't really see how the revamp fixes the imbalance of the potential system. All the weapon damage formula changes just involve changing constants and shifting them minorly so that proportionally, there isn't much difference. Defense rate doesn't change this either since it's proportional, and if it were calculated after regular defense, it would actually give an even worse disadvantage to the weaker characters. There's really not much that could've been done after releasing the potential system other than having damage formulas with something like decaying damage increases as main stat increases (as in doubling your main stat wouldn't be close to doubling your damage as it is now). I strongly agree that the potential system should never have been released though. I had already thought that equipment played too much a role in a character's damage before, and now it has gotten a ton worse, with highly funded (50-100bil+ worth) characters doing like up to four to five times the damage on bosses a character with mediocre equipment would do, as compared to maybe twice the damage before. I'm sure it was even worse in pre-revamp kMS with the double pendants and pet equipment. Also, I don't think anyone was seriously trying to kill pink bean with the pyramid glitch, mostly for fun and experimentation.

I think Potential system is okay, just the Miracle Cubes aren't. Throttle the higher-end bonuses, cut out the crap ones and rid off Miracle Cubes all together might make this system best of all worlds, beside Nexon's world.

i disagree. i'm not really a fan of these huge money-making schemes but the potential system would be worthless if you couldn't change the stats. working hard to build high level equips and risking the boom rate of a potential scroll only to end up getting really bad potential that you're stuck with or have to try again from scratch? that's really unfair. it might be sad that a lot of people are willing to spend fortunes on perfect equipment but that's always going to happen anyway. at least with the current system we're not completely ruining rare equipment and the price of cubes is afforable enough that anyone can do it if they play actively and learn to use the mts.

That might be the hint I guess...

In the view of weather or not we need it, no.

In my view, yes. I want the new exp curve. Knowing about it discourages me to train. Especially since the exp I have right now, 25%, is enough to almost level, if not level me with the new system.

I personally hope for a delay in BB because of one unanswered question that has been nagging at me for a while now.

We have yet to see them re-introduce the monster book and there's a chance of wiping the quest status. If they were to re-release the monster book in KMST tomorrow, I'd be ready for them to throw BB our way, but until that point I'd prefer not have my greatest accomplishments in the game wiped clean.

Then there's snipe missing, increased area boss levels/hp... Sure the exp curve will be nice, and if I bother leveling some more ulti-strafe wouldn't hurt, but overall I'm just not ready for it.

I am pretty sure they just yanked it client side because of how significantly it needs to be rewritten and that it will be reintroduced, or made dynamic with actual server-side information so they no longer have to maintain the data multiple times in multiple places, possibly even adding in all the search features everyone's wanted. Now of course the question is "when" and it may take a couple months for that to come through.

I want the BB patch so GMS has an easier time dealing with Chaos Zakum and HT. 1bil Chaos Z-helms make me cringe. Who the pineapple would pay 1b for a clean 21-to-all 10% hp helm. Sure, the HP is nice and all. Oh yay moar +6 all stats compared to a zhelm. Zakum helmet buyers are stupid.

Potential bonuses can also be higher too since the helm is lvl 100 compared to the lvl 50 the original is.

IMO You don't need it in the first place.
kMS needed it, but gMS is on a whole different level.
