I just find what you said full of bs and hard to believe.

So, 100% of the people who ever learned or will learn Japanese learned it for Animes, Mangas, and Video Games. Okay.

Maybe lol, considering how Japanese this forum is I just find it hard to believe...

I can say that I only learned Japanese for anime, manga, and video games. I do not regret it.

Why else would I want to learn? To actually speak to people in Japanese? Like who? It's not like I ever plan on moving to Japan.

I'm not sure what level of Japanese you are, but to say you don't know any at all is a lie. You've demonstrated that you at least know the basics of the language. If anything, you're at a beginner level (I doubt it though).

I'm not sure how you were able to get out Japanese then, as they're not machine translated from what I can tell. I guess it's possible you have a Japanese friend who's willing to translate for you every now and then, but I find that pretty inconvenient to rely on someone else.


I'm not saying it's impossible to fake your knowledge of Japanese. I'm just saying that you're making exaggerating a bit with the "don't know any at all" bit.

Oh, and when I saw your previous post, I thought you literally meant you don't actually speak Japanese.

To tell you the truth, my interest in the Japanese language sparked with the sound of the language. How it started for me is that I saw it in 8th grade on a course list for high school classes and I chose it, thinking it was something I never really heard. So, I looked up Japanese stuff and began looking into their culture and literature on the internet with my Chinese friend, who was somewhat familiar with the JP language. After actually hearing it and looking into it, I decided it was something I wanted to learn.

I will say, however, that after I started taking classes in high school for Japanese, there were some students who got me into looking for Japanese video games and anime, but I quickly grew extremely sick of that with the mass amounts of real weaboos that there were in the classes who were only goofing off and causing the teacher extreme amounts of stress.

I never got into it for anything but the language itself and I grew fond of the culture. I only care for real life Japanese things, in all honesty. I couldn't care less about anime, manga and video games.

If the way my mind works is any indicator, I have ADD/ADHD. Can't go a minute without constant stimulation or looking at a glowing screen.

I will say, however, that after I started taking classes in hi]gh school for Japanese, there were some students who got me into looking for Japanese video games and anime, but I quickly grew extremely sick of that with the mass amounts of real weaboos that there were in the classes who were only goofing off and causing the teacher extreme amounts of stress.

Understandable, I'd be pissed off at those people too if I was in that class. There was never a Japanese class offered in school to me (hell, they didn't even let us pick our classes...), but apparently this kinda crap is the norm for Japanese classes these days. Apparently, from what other people say, this group of people tend to phase out after the basic class, since they probably have no actual interest in learning the language for any other reason than showing off to their friends or watching anime a day earlier than anyone else they know.

I stopped trying to contribute to forum boards when I realized that nobody else would/could give me what I wanted. I sometimes lapse into phases of generosity, but most people can't tell the difference. I volunteer at a hospital every Saturday for four hours a week. I'm more athletic than I am intellectual: I did both Cross-Country and Tennis. I study science because it's practical and it's application can bring about positive changes, but my hobby and passion is in philosophy. I love re-reading Plato and Aristotle as they are foundational philosophers who cover a wide degree of topics. For this reason I also enjoy reading books on psychology and sociology. I wanted to find people who had similar hobbies. Unfortunately it always ended poorly.

I tend to trust people too easily because I am a truthful person. I like to give advice over life issues because it gives me a chance to explore different elements of human nature. I am horrible at lying. I hate trolls. I hate inconsistency. I hate people who don't explore their opinions further. I hate tl;dr statements. In middle school I used to write transgendered fiction stories and most of the people who edited my text were men in their late 30s. I am a horrible writer and have forgotten almost every grammatical rule in the book. I was a better writer back in middle school. I sometimes visit this site and fall into deep lapses of cynicism. I have never seriously considered killing myself. I have never seriously considered killing other people. I have considered running people over. I have also considered running them over again in reverse.

I am the first born and the oldest brother. I have a younger sister, she is usually an idiot. My mother went through three miscarriages, the babies had anencephalitis. My dad had a vasectomy right after my younger sister was born. He did not tell my mother (his wife) about it because he knew she would object. My mom didn't find out until ten years later. My dad is a staunch democrat. His philosophy is pro-welfare and he is very libertarian. His beliefs run counter to his wallet. After his co-workers left him and the economy tanked, that wallet became a lot smaller. My mother is staunch conservative. Her philosophy is to hate democrats and to argue with my dad over politics. I have grown cynical to the extent where I look forward to the public execution of all politicians. My dad is optimistic. When I was young, I asked him why he always looked on the bright side of life. He told me that if he didn't, then he would probably get depressed and die.

I believe people should have dreams. I believe people should aspire to follow those dreams. I believe people give you a lot of b.s. about what they want to do. I hate it when people talk too much and don't act at all. I hate people who feel that their profession sets them above other professions. It's a tough economy. Any job is a good job, as long as it's no job. I hate people who feel that getting into a top tier college sets them above other college students. You went to a nice college, I respect you for getting in. Just don't act like a shmuck.

I like general education requirements. Science professors can have the personality of a table. It's sometimes nice to have teachers who are able to dish out some condiments.

I hate online moderators who abuse their power. I hate online moderators that don't use their accounts for strictly professional purposes. I hate it when moderators have to spam, "Stop spamming or I will start handing out infractions." I hate it when online moderators attempt to threaten the community by referencing some superficial power i.e. "the ban hammer" that really has no damn implication on me. I know that they are just trying to do their job, but there can sometimes be a better method to how they execute that action.

I don't really hate people to the extent that it becomes something tangible. I try to not tell people I hate them specifically, unless I'm really pissed off. I don't really hate anyone in this community. At worst, you're a hopeless idiot. I only have two people I can call friends. I love my parents and I want to pay them back when I get older. Once my parents die, I'm planning to switch to a slower paced lifestyle and possibly being a teacher. I also wouldn't mind being a janitor or a hospice caretaker.

I am fluent in the Japanese language.

My Japanese Class is same. My teacher sucks so hard that.... I had to completely learn on my own. Can't teach to save his life. He can speak Japanese, but that's debatable. As he encourages romaji and mirroring people (I.E "Are you okay", "Yes I'm Okay", instead of "Yes") I could go on, but, hes just really bad.
Almost no one in our class knows any good Japanese.

Although you say you don't. I'm going to remain under the impression that you know some of the most basic basics.

I think it's just a phase... eventually the desire to learn Japanese will be gone. Japanese is a terribly difficult language. I can barely understand any Japanese, and even with some knowledge in the characters it can be hard to make out the meaning of the entire sentence.

Most people who take up the language just for anime tend to give up when they realize the language structure is opposite of English. It's a hard language. If you're only into it so you can watch anime without subs, chances are you won't have nearly enough motivation.

That's pretty bad. Someone else told me a story of their Japanese class basically being "sit down and watch anime while the teacher just sits lazily" class. The teacher would let them bring in their own stuff to watch. Every experience I hear about seems to indicate that a majority of Japanese classes in highschool are crap. College as well, but less than highschool. I've always just been self study, so I've never had to deal with this stuff.

That's cool. Although I never considered learning Japanese, there were a few things that made me appreciate Japan. For instance, this website: http://www.pilot.co.jp/.

Personally, I find Animes a terrible reason to learn Japanese so I have some bias in that regard. There's a lot of interesting things about Japan and I would also like to visit there sometime. My dad always takes wonderful pictures whenever he goes to Japan for a business trip ;]

I find actively speaking a language is the best way to learn, but I suppose that's kind of hard if you are just focusing on listening. I love foreign language classes a lot though... they're very enjoyable having taken French and Mandarin (although that's kind of cheating :x)

In my High School, the Japanese teacher was a Caucasian. I went to his classroom once and it's so saturated with Animes it's sickening... although I heard that the teacher speaks Japanese very well and teaches well.

Probably. After I submit something, I always find that there are things I neglected to add. Hence I edit them in. I think that double posting is a crime. Hence I would rather just modify an existing post, rather than using up additional page space. I also spot possible spelling errors or weird sentences. I know that I miss a lot of things, but at least I try to submit a post that I can find myself accountable for writing.

Yes, but some langages are harder than others depending on your native language. too lazy to dig up the study showing the top most difficult languages for native English speakers to learn. I think Cantonese was on the top.

When I was growing up, I was a bit ahead of the "Toonami boom" so to speak. By the time DBZ and stuff were airing, my age range were getting out of watching Cartoons. Of course, that stuff was still popular at the time with even high schoolers, but this early on it was a bit difficult to find anyone who really liked anime other than the ones airing on Toonami, especially someone who would openly talk to others about it in an attempt to form a social clique.

So I never really got to experience that kinda thing first hand. I see it if I happen to be outside in a nerdy place though (Pokemon events, manga isle of a bookstore where there's people laying on the floor and reading even though there's a designated reading area in the store, etc.) but I've never been in a situation where I'm forced to be around someone who's being annoying.
