Consumerist: Nexon Isn't Worst Company in America, Yet
#41
Oh hey, the SW thread poofed shortly after the article made it on there.

Straaaaaange.

Oh well, the link to it is in my Siggy there anyway! ^-^

No matter, there's more than enough good writers here anyway to tell the story.

Everyone here needs to step up. You're not going to be punished for speaking out, you're just bettering the future for everyone when you do. Status quo has gone on for too long. We have a chance for change, and we must take it. Please send your valid complaints to consumerist. Make our voices the loudest.

If you do submit a complaint to the consumerist, please include the fact that Nexon is deleting the reference (for obvious reasons) but it still points to negligence.

Without getting too detailed, per request from Fiel, I will be sumitting a detailed complaint to Consumerist.

O___O yeah I just noticed....

I wonder if it's the SP link...or just them not wanting to risk Nexon shunning them.

As soon as I wrote "Reader Sarah" I started laughing in my head out of amazement. I didn't read that "Take Down Nexon a Notch" thread (been lurking lately too), but I'm well aware of all the movements toward getting Nexon to realize their stupidity and inability to stabilize the game. Awesome job SP; cool article too.

Nope, it's one of their editors.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

I for one will NOT be passing up this opportunity. I will be writing up an email to the people at Consumerist tonight. Hopefully we can get through to them.

Excellent Sarah! Smile

Even though I'm finally off maple now and playing Bad Company 2 on xbox live, looking back, all what's wrong with maple are two things:

[1] Getting to lvl200 is an unhealthy bar and goal (level 150, or the time to reach level 150 would have been a lot better) for those who want to play for free, or spend just a -few- bucks on maple, getting to lvl200 costs a shietload of money or otherwise a shietload of time if you're unwilling to pay a few hundred bucks. This is one of the causes of a lot of the hacking/scamming/drama/fraud.

[2] While Maplestory was designed on a -MICRO- transaction system, Nexon America turned Maple into a -MACRO- transaction system. And also don't forget none items are permanent (like kMS), resulting into a game that costs a shietload more for the players then it was designed to be, also this results into all the hacking/scamming/drama/fraud.

The odd part here is that Nexon (America) is the laughing third person. They already made a shietload of money with Maple, at the cost of their unaware new (and most of them, very young) players, who keep coming to this game as new lvl1 noobs, like an infinite fountain of money for Nexon...

Comparing Maplestory to other games money-wise, it has such a bad performance, also when you look at what you get in return of getting to a high level (120+), really. When you look at WoW for example (which ironically costs SO much less per year compared to the amout of money "enthusiast" maple players spend on it), WoW offers -SO- incredible much more when you reach the end-game level / content.

But yeah, I guess that's the downfall of the "Free-to-play-Pay-to-enjoy" MMO's... it looks like the money and effort are worth it, while in fact, in the end you realize it's a shietty game afterall...

Anyway, don't expect Nexon to respond to this publicly, the most they'll do is release more 2x EXP events, which make even more money for them... Wink

But again, well done Sarah! Smile

I can't agree with your first 2 points. Getting to level 200 is a doable goal, they could set it to level 1000, and it wouldn't matter. That doesn't effect the quality of the game. Secondly there is no problem with their NX system. There was one game in China where you were rewarded for spending the most every day.

If you are going to talk about problems, talk about people getting banned for NX fraud, even if they have never charged. Or the hacking epidemic.

As someone who has a 200 I can't help but note you say this with only a 123 NL mentioned and have to ask if you're actually speaking from experience, because 200, even as a mage, is an insane crapfest of mindlessly grinding away in a world that was never designed for anyone to be past 140, on an experience curve that was built for content that still doesn't even exist in the native country.

200 is possible, yes, but it was also possible before we ever had Ludi, and it was only marginally more insane of an objective then.
The fact people can get to 200 isn't a testament to the design and implementation of the game, but to the raw determination of it's players to achieve the video game equivalent of moving an ocean with an eye dropper.

I fault KMS for the lack of content, not Nexon America. I think the two points are relavent if we were talking about Nexon Korea and how they don't have enough high level content, but regardless every game has some sort of grind. And like all games, the higher level you are, the harder it will be to level whether the difference is 1 hour > 10 hours, or 1 minute > 5 minutes. If MS was going to release content more efficiently, they should follow the WoW/Dragonica structure where there is a cap until higher level content is realeased, but that would defeat the purpose of 2x cards.

I agree with you and Devil about the lack of content, but I don't think it's fair to use it as a reason for Nexon America being a bad company

Great, although its doubtful, hopefully Nexon will start to become concerned with this and the apparent future articles that will be written by the site.

Grats to Sarah, you said my mind on the matter word for word ^_^

I'm impressed. I'll be honest and say that I'd assumed this would just be another failed attempt at trying to make Nexon aware, but it seems all the feedback prevailed. It's not much, yet, but it's definitely heading in the right direction. Keep it up, guys Tongue
