I nearly always have a bottle of water with me, so I just buy a Coke or a Pepsi most of the time. If I don't have water with me it depends on how thirsty I am and how big the bottles of water that are being sold are, and of course the price.

I normally carry 1-2 L of water with me when I go out, but if I somehow drink it all or forget to bring the water, I'll go bottled water or either fruit juice or pepsi (only if the last 2 are chilled)

If I'm absolutely parched, it has to be water. If I'm only mildly thirsty, everything on the list is pretty much fine, and I'd pick depending on my mood. Except for milk, because they're not really great for thirst quenching, and well...I just don't like most flavoured milks.

When looking at a vending machine, I personally look for the following:

Coke
Sprite
Some sort of orange soda
Lemonade
Raspberry or Lemon Iced Tea <~ the sweet kind.
Gatorade
Maybe... just maybe OJ.

If I see a vending machine with those drinks in it, I'd personally be satisfied with the selection.
