If that letter to the editor ever became law, it would be the perfect excuse to make Pastafarianism more prevalent.

I don't think the Force counts as a deity, in which case being a Jedi is an atheistic religion. ;P

Oh yes , because the spaghetti monster is soo much better. And as much as I'd love to argue that midichlorians are the jedis 'god'(i.e. a higher being) I'm not in the mood for a silly argument like that right now.

Jedi is a religion, not all religions need a god/s.
But I am very religious, I believe in The Invisible Pink Unicorn.

It's funny how people are always screaming for freedom of speech, and then support censorship in the specific cases where they want freedom of speech silenced.

I never said Jedi's not a religion (Although I did think it very loudly ), I just said it's a religion without a deity. Atheism is simply the belief that there is no deity, making a atheist religion possible. Buddhism is another example of this.

Atheism is not just the rejection of deities, it's the rejection of any divinities, or deities, or theism completely. Theravada Buddhism is more agnostic theism than atheism.

Wow. People need to get over themselves. Since when were they practising evil?

They aren't practicing anything, maybe except for reality.

I'm a Christian and I don't care if you're religious or not, it doesn't matter. The person who wrote that letter is probably mad at someone in specific and rather direct all his/her anger at Atheists instead of just an individual. I believe in my religion due to the fact that Jesus existed and that the messages he said never once harmed any person besides himself. I've never understood why people hate Jesus, he is really a nice guy - even if you don't believe in him, and logical person cannot reject his message of "peace, love, and understanding". However most Christians are morons (no offense).
Summary: I reject organized religion, but I don't reject my God =P.

Not really, but it doesn't matter. The freedom of religion was specifically designed to allow any and all denominations, not religions. Jews were discriminated against through-out most of American history.
And all the American presidents have claimed to be Christians, every last one is/was a white protestant male. But once again I just dislike outrageous claims, I'm entirely fine with Atheism as long as they don't force their beliefs on me. (Or rather...lack of beliefs).

Kennedy was a Catholic, though that is quite off topic
I guess my contribution to the conversation is that there are people in most (probably all) religions who force their religion on others/openly disprove and slam others' religion/non-religion. I'm sure there are plenty of atheists out there that think the same towards Christians, but it really all comes down to each person. My mother actually had a big problem with me choosing to be atheist (at the time, I'm a reformed agnostic now ), and I really had a hard time with facing that at home. In middle school some kid punched me for "not believing in god"...and all I could really think is "What a fucking good Christian he is..." I swear...punching people is definitely NOT what Jesus would do.
"To each his own" is probably the best philosophy when regarding the religious affiliations of others.

Of the world, probably. Of the United States, try to name one. I challenge you.

It's apparent that none of the Founding Fathers believed in God, at all.

Wait, this is pretty funny. So we have closet atheists now? Cite.
Most atheists (not agnostics, just atheists) are just as vocal as Evangelical Christians and fundamentalist Muslims in their beliefs (although usually not as violent as the fundamentalist Muslims)

I would totally run for President while posing as a Christian, then be like "I'm actually an atheist wut then" if/when I won. Totally.
