What do your parents think of Maplestory?

They (used to) hate it. I say "used to" because I don't play anymore. Tongue1 Sarah knows the reason for this.

My mom prefers me playing this than most of my other games, since its not violent and looks kinda cute (ha).
My dad would rather watch me play call of duty or GTA IV
My excuse of shooting other people in both games was that they were shooting back at me.

My dad used to hate it, but now, it doesn't seem like he cares about it.

He always used to call it "Mushroom People, probably because of the whole big-heads-little-bodies thing that Maple characters are infamous for.

They don't really care at all that I play Maple Story, or any game for that matter. I've been playing video games and computer games since a young age, so meh. Sometimes my mom even buys NX for me randomly when she goes out.

My mother doesn't care. I just leech off them anyway and stay home all day. It's just like any other hobby I'm interested in. If she comes into the room and wants to ask me a question, she ignores it. If I'm playing a different game, same reaction. If I'm watching anime, reading a manga, or VN, she doesn't care.

She even walked in before when I was playing an eroge. She literally glanced at the screen for a second, then just asked me to help her with a computer problem she had. Paying no mind whatsoever to what's on the screen.

The only time she ever really said anything was when I started playing again this summer and she came in.

"Oh, you still play this game? I haven't seen you on it in a while."

"Yeah, I quit, but was bored and got sucked back in when deciding to try out the new crap."

"Oh, okay."

"LOL! No mom, only noobs train on mushrooms! I'm whacking possessed spirits of teddy bears now, it's much different!"

"Oh...well, dinner's at the door if you're hungry..."

My mom plays and trains together with me, helps with quests and provides stuff to sell whereas I in return provide funding for her char. I think it's a rather nice symbioses of task distribution. My dad is only a little grumpy if the computer is occupied, but since I don't live at home anymore there's usually another computer available so I guess it's cool. I know you're all jealous there's a strong lvl 190 bishop always willing to train with me before everybody else, hah.

Well my parents didn't care until they found out I was using my allowence to purchase NX on a "Wal Mart" game. So than they stopped giving me money, which lead to me making my own (cutting grass).
They still really don't care, except on certain days (when we argue) they pull this out on me.
Mom: You're such a jerk!
Me: Whatever.
Mom: That' why you play 5 year old Wa Mart games! You fucking dumbass brat.
Me: T_T It's not a wal mart game.
Mom: These little cartoon that jump when you hit th space bar!

Ehh... I only play weekends. No time for Maple anymore.

But back in the day:

My mother called it the "games with the little jumping people." And then proceeded to tell me to go study for SATs.

Dad... long as I didn't buy craploads of NX he's happy.

Sometimes, though, they get interested and start watching me play. Or, they decide to watch me play the JP version and ask me every two seconds what something says... >_>

Everyone in my family always joke me about playing and calls it the "Mushroom game," or say that I'm doing nothing but running around like Mario and wacking mushrooms all day long. lol

They even resorted to pointing out sexual inuendos about MapleStory, like how Shrooms look like tiny walking penises.

Edit : I'm 19.

LOL. Then they grow up and start jumping around. XP Sorry.

But yeah, I know what you mean... and I would hate to imagine what it'll be like if mum knew I spend money on it....... Eek! XD

ImagineAll Wrote:Meh. My parents have mixed feelings about it. My dad will walk in occasionally and make a comment along the lines of, "Youre still playing that gay ass mushroom game?" He looks down on me for playing it because I got tired of playing sports after I injured my leg; I spend a lot of my time playing MS that I'd otherwise be practicing for football.

I can't say I care too much for his opinion on the matter, but when I say something and he responds with, "You shouldn't be saying anything considering that you waste hours a day playing that stupid 'Maple Syrup" game," then I get irritated.

He's only bothered me about wasting money on NX a few times...so I guess that's good ._.

This made me lol hard in real life for some reason.

LOL, that sounds very familiar. Or my dad would call it Pokemon, which clearly it is no where near it. Regardless, I am glad I am in college now so I don't have to deal with that crap anymore. Unfortunately some parents are so out of date as to what goes on in the internet (or life) that I could be doing much worse things, especially with my money.

Exactly Tongue

My dad is just one of those super -white- guys that thinks if you aren't playing sports you're wasting your time on anything else. What he doesn't realize is how much stuff this game has kept me away from by investing my time into it rather than other "things." Ohh well, I'll be off to the Marines soon anyways and won't have to deal with it Smile

If your parents ever came in while you were in HT though you could just conveniently DC and no one would give it a second thought, Mr. DCFrancisco.
