Changing standards
#41
IllegallySane Wrote:While changing standards isn't always fun to happen, it means the game is not stagnant. Stagnant/non-changing games don't last very long. Content wise we are waaaay better off than last year or so. With newer content leads to an eventual higher standard for what's good and what's bad.

Yeah, we've got great new content and all, but the difference is that now there's certain things that have diminished value. Back in the day, Zak was the ultimate evil, and it took nearly 2 full parties to kill a Pap. Now you have Heros that can solo a Zak in 30 minutes or less, and everybody can kill Pap without even having anyone else there.

Now that we've got ToT and soon Neo Tokyo, we at least won't have to worry about diminished gameplay, since once you get to that level, its still hard to fight stuff, considering some monsters have 22k damage attacks.

I'd have to say the thing that really broke gameplay was the Chaos Scroll. I could understand using it on an event equip that would expire, so as to make some momentary fun items, but having the ability to spend a LOT of money to buy a scroll that can potentially make an item impossibly better than ever is a little bit broken.

The only reason chaos scrolls are broken is because of the abundance of attack equipment.

Even in KMS, chaosed chaos spieg necklaces and attack belts are a little ridiculous.

Lol, I agree man. Chaos kinda broke it.
Also, found this SS. One of my first, cause I didn't know you could until level 60.

I loved that event. This was the result of nearly 2 hours of work on that thing.

And these were my clothes at lvl 80, and I LOVED THEM.

Well, I really don't like keeping up with rising standards untill I'm pretty much forced to.

Last time I upgraded was over a year ago,(exluding switching Ht pend to MoN, and makering new shoes) and I'm still quite content with the equips of then. I have a decent chaosed PAC, and accuracy/speed based warrior shoes.

I assume Hammers would be so game changing that I'd be forced to upgrade, but I have yet to try them out. Still holding out F3, at least it allows me time to make mesos and pull of a complete overhaul in a few months.

It doesn't make sense to me to upgrade now, during a slow playing period of the year. I won't even have time to enjoy it with projects/midterms/finals.

Upgrading Procrastination FTW.

when I was level 50, being 80 was pro. when I was level 80 being 120 was pro. when I was 120 being 150 was pro. now that Im 15X being 200 is pro ... in other words, maple does not follow standards, it follows maximums because everyone always wants to have better stuff than the next guy and we know that those who post their equips around are more often than not the ones that have the best gear available

Man, I really missed the old days........

.......where everything was like normal. Seriously. By just looking through this topic, it really brought back old memories.

As an 4th job Archmage, a good majority of them today are LUKless (don't know the percentages, but the "standards" have definately changed, I do know). I have a low-stat character (aka my Level 8x DK), but I kept my Archmage as it is - normal LUK, which my friends tell me to spend some time to reset it down - as a way to show where I really came from.

I still remember back then, LUKless were still on the back burner, being experimented; no damage hoars, equips were just standard, everyone was who they were. Now I just don't know where I lie.

The good ol' days. Frown

I remember when I played Maple SEA and I felt SOOOOOO strong as a level 47 assassin, or messing around on my friend's level 45 bandit. Then, I moved to JMS, and i was the envy of all my irl friends because I was the first to get over level 50, and I felt super godly with an 8 attack glove that took me forever to earn the mesos for it (8m). We believed that I would get to 70, but that never happened. They ruined the coolie map when I was level 54. This was when Guild PQ had just came out to JMS, and Orbis PQ was new too. When I moved to GMS, it was still in "the old days." Then I had to quit for about 10 months (treatment center). When I came back, GMS suddenly had NLC, and tons of other stuff. Since then, the game has just gotten exponentially worse.

What a nostalgia trip.

Maybe a year or a year and a half ago, that range would be considered godly. I'm pretty sure it's just crap now.

Probably the biggest reason for me to "keep up with damage" is just because I can. Merchanting is actually pretty enjoyable for me and is something I do all the time on maple, and with the mesos I make from it, I can get way more nx than I actually need from the MTS.

Standards have definitely changed though. I remember back in 2006 when I was playing my lukless F/P. I didn't necessarily start lukless just to do more damage than everyone else (a lot of people back then rejected the idea), the main motive was pretty much just simplicity in equipment, cheapness, and ability to revert without using AP resets. When maple lama staves came out though, I scrolled up a very nice one by the standards of the day (two 10%s and one 60%) and pretty much just by that, I became basically stronger than almost every F/P I saw. Two-hitting zombies with fire arrow at the time before 70 was almost unheard of, and I would get comments from other F/Ps at pangs (the grupin map was completely overrun by hackers).

People got mad at me when I was using a dex wg at zombies and still able to 1hko them in my late 6x >_> for the longest time I thought they had 4600 hp, then I found out it's only 4500 so it made more sense.

My Paladin had a pretty big gear upgrade around level 118, I forget what feature came out (maybe new gacha scrolls? or a tcg se?) but I got some money, so I switched to top/bottom, 12 atk glove, and atk cape at that level. Haven't actually upgraded anything since then, except my shoes, and the earring/face that I bought for my NL.

Cool, a nostalgia thread.

The insane "standard" was one of the reason I quit global. Two years ago, I trained my archmage to 13x with a 13 int maple lama which was pretty godly back then. Then maple wisdom came out and set the new standard for lukless. I didn't really like it but it wasn't anything game-breaking since lolmagic formula.

Then the elemental weapons came out and... if I stay on the topic any longer, I'll probably start one of those topics regard elemental weapons. But bishops but my "my day" were still strong with black umbrellas. A friend of mine used a black umbrella to 15x.

I wanted this so bad lol

Coming as someone who came in during the time of these mass standards changes, I can't really relate, especially with those who were here before dark scrolls. As such, I suppose I'm used to these upgrades, and don't really mind them. I train to get stronger, and new additions are a motivational plus for this goal. Faster training, faster bossing, what's not to like? I suppose the extreme damage-hoaring, but that element was always there Rolleyes

I'm puzzled by those wishing for 2hr zaks again and the like. Who in their right mind would want to do that? :f6:

Of course non of us really want to go through with that again, but really before 4th job zakum took skills, luck and determination to down. CBs had to meso bomb it and by doing so it "only" took 2 hours. Without them there was 99% guarantee of fail, and suddenly I can now solo the boss in way less than half that time. Instead of taking the game to the next level and add challenging stuff they pump us with power we do not really need and throw pieces of fail bosses like the P bean at us. Tank X amount of damage and the boss will die, sure the bean isn't defeated yet, but that's only because the time frame is stupid. CWK PQ was a great step in the right direction, but we need more.

I miss bombing =\ I still do it sometimes when I've got a bishop who doesn't hang in the back.

^I never hang in the back, but I only heal if the DrK isn't Zerking... which happens more often than not these days... Friend of mine uses Smokescreen to bomb sometimes, though, lol.

Celestye. Biggrin Sorry, forgot I got rid of my sig on this forum.

One thing I've noticed is how skewed the game is away from new players lately. I feel like people who just started rarely get very far, because they get tired of being poor and having to restart characters just to get mesos. We tell them to do scroll quests, but that's not enough for them to keep up with us, with our high levels of Blessing and 12+ attack WGs. And anyone who's made it to 4th job once has an instant advantage in terms of helping themselves with quests/leech/whatever. Heck, I Door my page to CWK to train, and I killed Mushmom for myself for that under level 40 quest on my speargirl. :f6:

This. After getting to my level making another 120+ character is an absolute joke.

I believe this goes for any important level in the game (30, 70, etc.). It took me 2 year to get to Lv. 70 on my Bandit. It took my Wind Archer like what, 26 days? Of course I had more funds (10 mil instead of 0 mesos) but that was also because I took things from my Bandit.
