Original League of Legends (LoL) Thread
I'm downloading the game to start playing, can I get any tips before I screw things up like I love to do on most games when I play for the first time (Stat screw ups, valuable items I might find early and sell too cheap, other stuff like that).
Thanks Biggrin

Play both tutorials.

Don't chase enemies through towers unless they have extremely low health and you have extremely high health.

Don't buy more than 1 pair of shoes.

If it looks like you're not going to win a fight, run away.

With your first cash buy a health potion and some starting item (usually Doran's ______).

And another one joins the flock!

Basically what Corn said. But having said that, this game has a hugeass learning curve. Don't get discouraged though, the matchmaking system will attempt to match you up with people who are just as clueless as you are! Whenever you want to take the time to, read up on everything in the learning center and learn what each champion can do, starting with the 10 champions that are free for the week.
Vlad is amazing, won a few with him and I cannot get enough. Definitely buying him, might plantain around with Kayle later.

Unlike MS, LoL is a PvP-based game. Any items you acquire are acquired through matches; they benefit your champion for that match. However, they last only for that match.

However, you can acquire permanent items, such as Champions and Runes, through earning IP (Influence Points)
; this is earned by playing matches (winning will earn you more IP).

Play the tutorial first; you'll learn a lot of the basic gameplay mechanics through it. If you have any more questions, come back and ask!

Now don't go getting all in love with im because in the coming months he is due to be re-worked.

I played a pomegranatety game earlier that had a couple of epic things happen in it lol. First thing was me (blitz) and the enemy blitz rocket grabbed each other and swapped spots
like urgots ultimate lol. The second thing that happened was toward the end I kept baron warded 100% of the time until they decided to go for it, they kept killing my wards so
I waited till they were in the fight with baron to drop another one. Never woulda thought it would work but I stole their baron with a rocket grab from behind the back wall haha it was so epic.

Good, cheap champs to start with include Ashe and Master Yi, the only trick to them is knowing when the appropriate time to jump into a fight is. DPS champions are sort of like "right click to win" characters more than casters or tanks. Before you play a real game with any champ you've never played, I recommend reading a guide or two at places like http://www.mobafire.com/ and http://leaguecraft.com/, watching a youtube video or two, and playing one custom game against bots to get a feel for how the skills work.

Hell, LoL's official forums are halfway decent, unlike Nexon's. http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/for...y.php?f=29 is the beginner forum, and all of those stickies are decent reads.

General tip: Always try to last-hit minions for the gold. Don't just stand and auto-attack. You'll see this all the time in higher level videos, they let their minions pick away at the enemy minions and then do one attack to finish them. In the early game, it's okay to be hugging your tower. It's easier to get minion kills, easy to fall back to safety, and if your opponent gets too far into no-man's land it opens up the chance for other members of your team to come around and "gank" them. (Sneaky gang-up kill)

Yeppppp

Vlad is pretty damn easy to use and can faceroll your team to victory quite easily, but I wouldn't recommend buying him just yet because he's getting reworked soon.

RENEKTON IS SOOOO DAMN FUN

I can't believe people QQ he is underpowered...

They're probably playing him as a glass cannon, which is pineappling dumb

EDIT: Detailed guide on how to be a pro vlad

Don't forget R and W.
I just finished my first game, after the tuts and everything, it was fun, I still don't know which champion to use, I tried the little mage, Veigar, it was fun but I think I want to play a few more matches before I buy a champion.
One thing I noticed is that my 2 teammates went for killing the champions, while I was killing turrets/inhibitors... Do you get more IP/XP for doing that?

IP and Xp is only based on winning or losing, and how quickly you won (if you won quickly, I think it gives the most).

Going for nothing but kills is foolish. What you should be doing early in the game is just getting the last hit kills on any minion you can so you farm up gold.

If you see an opportunity to punish the enemy for making a mistake, or just feel like harassing them a bit because you know you won't take any/much damage, go for it.
Dark, I don't think you understand what genre of game LoL is.

You're not supposed to kill inhibitors/turrets alone. You're supposed to help your teammates with ganks, teamfights, etc. Taking out structures will come along as you advance into enemy territory. Plus, it'll be more beneficial to you if you are pushing structures with your teammates with your team. Taking structures out by yourself is very risky, because you'll risk 1) getting shredded by the enemy turret (if all of your surrounding minions get killed) 2) enemies ganking you from both the front and the back.

Erm, that article kinda sucks for what purpose you're giving it to him for =/

Darkmaniak, ign/alias/handle/Summoner name pl0x! (unless I'm dumb and missed it)
Your #1 priority, waaaay above everything else is staying alive. Even if you aren't getting kills, if you aren't dying, that's great.

I was on a relatively bad team today that got facerolled by a Renekton. Kinda fell into the "anyone who's fed is OP" category. Was my first matchmaking game with Lux too, and he kept coming from the back and decimating me. 8-10-12 wasn't too bad though, all things considered. I know he built a Black Cleaver and Trinity Force, not sure what else. Might've had Warmog's, he had a ton of HP. I'd love to get Renekton and play him tanky DPS. I think he or Trundle will be my next champ.

Trundle's an amazing jungler but he's not all that tanky, and if you focus on building him as tanky dps he's really not that great.

Your focus with him should be damage early game, leading into a more tanky build late game, but you're still not near the caliber of tankiness as a nasus/ renekton

Yeah after playing a second game I realized that staying alive is the most important.
My name/alias/whatever is TheManu... sadly Manu alone was taken and I'm not creative at all, also I didn't notice I could use a space~

I was thinking about buying a champion, I noticed that Master Yi is very nice, but I think I like ranged more than melee champs for now at least...
My other option is Sivir, who is ranged, but I've only seen her in action in the tutorial
Any recomendations for a good cheap starter champion?

Ashe is a ranged DPS for 450 IP and she's well-regarded.

@Pineapple
Oh, I don't know how I'd do Trundle. Haven't researched him much at all past a video or two. He's just so different. Looks fun. I like that video you put up.

This. And her Enchanted Crystal Arrow ultimate is a "global" ultimate. Which means you can hit an enemy champ anywhere in the map, provided you have a steady aim. Rolleyes

Ashe is the best starter champion in the game hands down.

She's one of the best ranged DPS characters in the game and she's only 450 IP.

Her crystal arrow ultimate can get you so many kills if you have a jungler (you'll learn what this is in due time and why they're so damn godly).

For help on how to play her/ what items to get refer to this guide: http://leaguecraft.com/strategies/guide/...ndom.xhtml

you won't be able to buy things like runes or get all your masteries set until you're 30, but that shouldn't be an issue because you'll normally be playing with people in the same boat as you.
