Anyone here have Minecraft?
Building a bridge with Ice arrows through the mighty lava lake in hell isnt easy... I used like 400 arrows for that bit of a bridge there.

Btw, get the elemental arrows & obby tool mods, they're uber cool. But don't use them in smp as they'll not work.

Imagine that the gate you make in the Real World has coordinates. The game tries to make a the second gate in the Nether using those coordinates. But the game defines it as unfit. "Unfit" could be anything from being over a sea of lava to being inside of a wall. The game then moves it to a 'fit' place. When you re-enter that portal, it creates a portal with the same coordinates in the Real World.

End result: Two portals in the Real world that both lead to the same portal in the Nether.

Now I have to wonder... if you hacked your Nether file to be solid block, where would your Nether portal spawn?

The system makes a large dome over your portal in the netherworld. Even if you made a portal that would in theory be in solid blocks, it would lead you into a constructed dome as a sort of anti-error mechanism.

If there were no blocks however, the system would still deploy a set ammount of randomly generated landscapes to ensure you arrive on a solid platform.

If your wondering how to map the netherworld, heres a solution.

One block in the netherworld = 16 blocks in the Overworld.

If you have been placed in random area when entering the netherworld, make sure to bring a compass!

Go back to the overworld, you should be in a random area the first time as well (Unless your really lucky to end up in an open area.)

Then go back, look at your compass, and detirmin which way your spawn is and how far your house is from your spawn.

Go back to the netherworld and go in the direction in which the compass pointed to when you were in the overworld.

Now it's time to dig. Dig in the direction in which the compass pointed to, but don't dig too far since it's 1:16th the distance.

Then keep repeating until you get a portal right by your house or spawn!! Big Grin

i just used invedit to get me some obsidian because i couldn't get any damn diamonds, and i entered the nether for the first time...

my reaction:
Holy sweet jesus tickling christ, the nether is one scary as all pomegranate place man. Shrieks of the damned and the wails of unholy entities that screech through the hellish haze and reverberate through your ears and quake through to your soul; that's the pomegranate of nightmares right there my brothers.

also worth noting, the compass got all kerfuffled in the nether. i lol'd.

Compasses do not work in the Nether. They spin wildly as if the entire region were comprised of magnets.

I'm curious, where did this dome theory come from?

Also, compression ratio is 8. Not sure when it changed. http://notch.tumblr.com/post/1486843146/...qus_thread

I think you misread what I meant.

I meant:

Step 1: Go into nether for first time

Step 2: End up in random place

Step 3: Go through portal again and end up in a random area outside.

Step 4: Look at compass outside to see which way is the direction of your spawn.

Step 5: Go back in portal to the nether, the direction you face is the direction you face as well outside the nether.

Step 6: Based on the direction of the compass outside, head in the direction 1/16th the distance towards your spawn should be overhead.

Step 7: Build another portal in the spot you estimate the spawn should be.

Step 8: Arrive in the overworld closer or next to spawn!

Do this as much as you want until you can put portals by your house, spawn, digsites, and other biomes areas to gain faster resources..

Although the compression may be 1:8, I used 1:16 before since he mentioned it being 1 square in nether = 16 overworld squares.

Also my dome theory is based on the random generation of chunks in the nether from when you enter.

Lets say there are no blocks in the area, everything is a giant void. The system would not deem it as a proper area to put a portal since the portal needs a platform in the nether to be built on.

The system then randomly generates, if not in that area, but in a new random generated area that hasn't been rendered yet to be placed.

However, domes may not exsist as a generated area meant for portals. As long as the system can 100% generate an area thats not rendered yet, you can build a portal disreguarding if the previous area you edited was a solid brick or a giant void.

If per chance there is no render space left in the nether and everything is a void or a giant brick, theres maybe 4 outcomes.

- You crash due to a java error
- You fall down and die
- You get trapped in a block and slowly die.
- The portal may not work.

People with those kinds of opinions do exist, but the Landover Baptist Church is just satire.

Just letting everyone know. Behind my Death Mountain Lookout Tower, I went exploring for Pumpkins. I found none. But I did find 3 rather large Winter Wonderlands, and ONE Desert. I hereby claim said desert as mine, because I want to build a pyramid there. You guys can do whatever you want in the snow areas.

Same old world, but it appears that Erich chopped off portions of the map that weren't being used.

Btw, to anyone who said there was no end to digging downward in hell is wrong.

I did however end up at a second lava lake about 50 cubes down, but I used Ice-arrows to cool the lava into obsidian and digged some more until I eventualy hit the absolute bottom. (64 squares.)
