It took me quite some effort to hit 100k, totally no NX funding... well... nearly there since Xenon got nerfed now but my Lumi isn't far. I've yet to kill Gollux because I don't have the time... GRE is looming ahead of me and I didn't do that well last time. When I've finished my PhD applications and stuff I'll give Gollux a try.

I can't kill VL, for example, and I wish the wall ain't so punishing yet so easily overcome using NX. Yes I could farm event items (high latency notwithstanding, although from the free MPs and free perm. pet I finally got a permanent looting pet on my BaM), but that feels so... artificial. There's little sense of accomplishment hitting 100K, 150K etc. this way, but rather a kind of "Scrooge is happy because he got more money (read: range)" materialistic satisfaction.

I don't understand why weaker players think they should have the same access to things as stronger players. This is the way the game is, get used to it.

Because weaker players pay for this game too, just not an obsessive much as the funded players do, yet they have most things completely unavailable for them. So it's easy for you to condone the flaws this game has because you're benefiting the most from it? That's cute Rolleyes

Can't solo Normal Gollux? Go with a friend, split the coins so each person grabs the end coins every other day. One per month isn't too bad.

Oh yes its not a good argument because EVERYONE has friends with 50k+ ranges. Oh and you know everyone that's 140~150 should be able to kill a boss with 50mil or more hp. Especially if your class is a short range melee type, but lets make it even more interesting. Lets make that class have low defense no guard skill or defense booster. [Good example; Kanna] Oh and lets add insult to injury by not making any pots work but have a cooldown.
Now does that sound fair to you? Cause it doesn't to me its just plain annoying.. Seriously unless you're funded or know people you're pretty screwed if you're poor. Especially if you're a class like Kanna, Hayato, or most archers(Because of their low hp not because of their range attacks) and most mages I know Hayato is a warrior class, but he isn't like most warrior classes that have high hp/defense.

That is a bold and arrogant statement, that's like saying because your more funded/rich you deserve to be able to treat weaker players badly because they can't fund themselves and therefore deserve to be where there at. Yeah that's real smooth guy..

Green4Ever; went about it in an offensive way, but I agree with what I think he means.

The Gollux difficulty system is just fine. There are half of the equips you can work for (if you're strong enough to do higher difficulties, you'll get it faster), and there are half of them where you'll need to pass a certain strength threshold no matter what to get them. In general being strong provides you better and faster rewards, but there's a portion that unfunded players can go for (which doesn't usually happen in this game). That's the way it should be.

Bringing in the gap between funded and unfunded players and all of Nexon's problems about cash and pay2win and blahblahblahblah is one of my favorite things to do too. However, this boss turns slightly away from this problem, and shouldn't warrant comments like the original instigating comment by Razmos; .

In an MMO, you're supposed to work to get stronger. By getting stronger, you get access to more content. Thus, to get more content, you're supposed to work for it. Yes it's not necessarily "hard work" in Maplestory, but that has nothing to do with how this boss is set up. In the "good old maple days" before pay2win, HT and Zak were at certain points in time untouchable (significantly more so than Gollux). It was a goal to be able to get into the huge ass squads that ran it, despite it being a distant dream. Gollux is set up how any MMO content should be set up, but BETTER for lower funded players relative to other bosses. What do you want Gollux to be? Easy Gollux and free equips for everyone? Then what's the point of being stronger in the first place and what's the goal you're supposed to work towards? Honestly, we're just so spoiled because the game has shied away from hardwork = rewards that we've become lazy and have lost sight of what the game SHOULD look like.

The Nexon pay2win arguments are everywhere, no need to bring it up at the one boss that alleviates part of it.

To everyone who is upset they can't solo it. Why can't you see that as a GOOD thing? Hard really isn't that bad. All of you guys with 100k range and 100% boss who can't solo it shouldn't solo it then. A group I know has less range/boss than you guys and still killed Hard gollux in a group. This is the kind of group bossing thing everyone complains about being missing from the game all the time. Not only that, it can be a daily thing, it has legit rewards, and it can cater to MULTIPLE levels of funding.

Really? You know NOBODY with a 50k+ range? Guild members? Alliance members? I find that very hard to believe.

Why are you trying to kill Gollux at level 140/150? Is it your personal goal to go kill a boss with a couple of passives maxed, and 1 level in your main bossing skill (not to mention a lack of Hypers) at best? Why not try at a higher level, when you have more of your class's potential unlocked?

Range differs greatly between classes, but almost all classes have ~30k range buffed if they're geared decently (at least, for an unfunded person who knows how their way around the game, and abuses events). I have multiple classes who share tradeable equips and they all have at least a 30k range when self-buffed. If I invested in some decent weapons (I use 60% scrolled weapons for most of them, usually from Event Shops) and some cheap, untradeable gear (%stat Rings, shoulderpads, pendants maybe), their buffed ranges would rise to 50k easily.

The only two classes that I have invested into more than this are my Mercedes, who is sitting at a comfortable ~60k range buffed, and my Angelic Buster who sits at close to 500k buffed (I admit this is due to some frivolous spending and my absolute love for the class).

You can easily bypass the potion cooldown by leaving, using a potion and re-entering the room. The only reason you'd be blocked from leaving is if you let the mobs get to the middle, which shouldn't be hard since fighting in the middle of Gollux's jaw is one of the more efficient ways to take him down.

Avoiding Gollux's attacks isn't rocket science. Just stay in the middle (where the open portal is), and Teleport/Dankuusen/Ether Pulse/Double Jump/Glide Blast to the other side when Gollux readies his attack. Even the Explorer Warrior classes should have little problem with this ever since the introduction of Slipstream, unless you go brain-dead during the fight and cannot press a button in time.

As for the "poor" of Maple, it's entirely their fault that they're at that level where they cannot participate in ANYTHING. Why should they be rewarded with good equipment if they put zero effort into making/fusing equipment or merching? I agree that having an enormous part of the high-level experience blocked off by an equally enormous paywall is incredibly stupid, but the lower level modes of Gollux aren't blocked off by the paywall, they're inaccessible because the player is lazy and does not want to invest time into making decent equipment to take him down. Hell, I'm sure plenty of people got their Superior equips before Nexon removed the coin drops from the shoulders and abdomen.

While I agree the difficulty system is just fine, the pot cooldown and overall not being able to work when fighting a body part is annoying they need to fix that. As for the funding that is debatable considering the items that'd make the most profit can only be gotten by killing hard/hell mode. Hard mode is possible, but hell mode is impossible not only that but the 'well-funded' or 'Elite' maplers will NOT pay for the items when they can get them themselves by killing Gollux. So really the only good level of funding is selling the scrolls since Nexon f'cked up the shop and made all the items one-time only buys.

But that has always been the case.
Back when the best money came from running Zakum, HT, and CWKPQ, you had to be strong enough to begin with to fight them.
It's true that two or three unfunded characters could fill for one superfunded "pro", but squad organizers preferred the "pro" anyway because he was HP washed and would survive where all three unfundeds would get wiped, and because appling him was seen as cheaper than giving three people apples.

It's true that the power gap has become absurd, where it takes 100 unfunded to deliver the DPS of one superfunded, but the principle that the most lucrative rewards fall to the people who are already rich has always been so.

You basically missed the entire point of my post. My point was that's the way it should be. Players that are more powerful should have access to appropriately more powerful rewards from harder bosses. Hell mod is not "impossible", it's to more powerful players than you what hard mode is to you.

What I mean is: You shouldn't be making 5b per pendant/belt that you grab from easy gollux. If you're not strong enough to take on a level, you have to fund yourself via the lower levels to attempt to one day be able to take on that thing you first deemed impossible. When you finally get there, your rewards is making 5b from the pendant/belt that you loot. Do you get what I'm saying?

In my world, the scaling for prices for the difficulties is actually very, very good relative to what it takes to beat it. The rarity of the higher level equips also helps balance it out.

Also, you're completely wrong on rich players not buying anything. There are 2 equips that you can't get from killing gollux (you must farm). They have to either farm or buy it from people who do. I'm not even going to address your complaints about boss mechanics because you could make that same complaint about every other boss skill in the game.
Reply
Also, if anyone could get the Superior equips, they wouldn't be worth 5b or whatever, so you couldn't fund yourself through them.
And the funded would still be ahead of you because they could afford to scroll and cube them with the best the cash shop has to offer, while you have to make do with Occult Cubes and rare event scrolls.

Some people like to fight bosses early, i'm not saying I don't personally know people with high ranges. But before I was in the current guild i'm in I knew no one with a range higher then 30k. If I weren't semi-funded on my Evan I pretty much would have to try to solo bosses which.. 9 times out of ten didn't go well for me till 190+ ..and I worked hard for all the equipment i have so it wasn't for a lack of trying.

See that's the problem though no one wants to really party up. Why? Well there are multiple reasons. But i'll focus on the two I feel would increase party orientated bossing KMS' boss party drop; Everyone gets the item if one person picks it up. And second well... the lack of availability this problem is more so in my server. If there WERE more people willing to take the steps to fight bosses together and actually feel like the party will succeed then this issue will stop. While the second problem is uncontrollable the first one is, besides the coins I dunno if other drops are like PQ drops. (If they are like this for Gollux then excuse me for wasting your time).

I get your point you need to put in the work to achieve your goal not expect to make a lot right off the bat. Believe me I know.. the problem is that some players aren't able to buy nx all the time to merch, and with the lost of the Crimson wood Exchange quest it widen that gap. I won't go into detail about why i can't buy nx all the time, but the point I was trying to make is there are some players if not a lot that simply can't afford millions of cubes to make strong items TO kill strong boss. So you have to understand that the little income that they do make they use after saving up enough to BUY strong items to get stronger. It wouldn't be an issue if Nexon made cubes(not those horrid cubes that drop your tier) drop from 160+ mobs or area bosses or if they just brought back the exchange quest. Its not like weaker players can just ask stronger players to kill bosses for them, most 'Elite' players are arrogant selfish pricks. Green4ever proved that point fairly clear.

Pots should work fine if you don't have a familiar out. Familiar buffs you when you enter the map which eats up the pot cooldown.

Zakum needed large groups cause funding didn't matter all that much, being high-level was the main source of good range, and it used to be hard to grind to high levels. HT and White Scrolls were the beginning of 'some players are better off than others' for me. 7x10% weapons and gloves conferred an advantage over the more usual 60% scrolling.

Hmm. I would say there's a link between being strong and being able to survive zakum - when training and bossing were both 2-3hkos and 10% took several hours to gain, if you didn't survive you didn't get stronger.

And all the business about "warriors have high hp/def" is meaningless at Gollux, who almost exclusively does 50%/100% hp attacks, ignoring all defensive skills. Every class is a 2hko.

Usually for normal mode on my DS:
Normal: kill hand and abs

If you are close ranged I suggest klling abs to avoid status afflictions. If you have range no need to worry, kill hand for easier time.

I think that's basically it...unless you want to know anything specific.

I killed both hands and they still grab me? Is their a body part to stop that? I'm close range so this is a pain -_-

Killing the shoulders stop the hands, not the hand part itself.

Actually I think the Nexon team watches too much Attack of Titan.

Because in one of the later episodes one of the characters specifically attacks the shoulders of the giant to disable her from using her arms and hands. It was actually pretty cool watching it as a future medical student, seeing what tendons and mucles they were slicing to stop it [the titan had no skin]

lol if that is the case we should be fighting on gollux back so we can slash his neck and truly defeat the "titan"
