GMS Server Status Discussion - 2015-06

This is the kinda thing people used the indicator for. Removing it was stupid. <_<

Would you say more or less stupid than paying for it monthly when it returns ~1% of what it costs? You all survived just fine for years without it. If any of you die from it's absence now I may consider that an added perk.

I've already given my conditions for when/if/how/why it'll be restored. Rather than whining someone could actually expend the effort and help get it up sooner, but I have a life and priorities right now, and re-enabling a feature I have to bleed thanklessly for isn't high on the list.

What in the pineapple is going on? The servers are going nuts.

I started lagging pretty badly when Kritias Invasion started and then channels started crashing in GAZED.

Scania is screwed over too. All channels down and I logged in and couldn't do anything but open menus.

same with Windia, whole server went down and ch 1 still dc's people

since last night I have had some pretty bad lag. but I'm not sure if it's Maple or our Time Warner, already gotta wait for them to come out and fix something else on Monday and PSN can't even connect correctly for people with TWC, been 3 days now and they havent fixed it lol.

MS was lagging for me as well, im on Verizon FiOS.

MS is lagging as hell by now in Mardia. Even a simple hunting is beyond imposible now.

About MapleStory's server issues... It may have something to do with Dragon Nest.

There is a theory that exists within the Dragon Nest community thanks to several things the developers have said on our side, one that most Dragon Nest players take as fact when monitoring server status between both games (the GMS status tool here at SouthPerry has been ironically helpful for giving DN players an idea of how our servers have been doing as well, or so most of us would believe).

The theory is that at some point last year, Dragon Nest's database was merged with Maple's, and now both games share the same server resources. When one game has high server traffic to the point where there are massive latency issues, it happens to be affecting the other game as well. Dragon Nest's population has been EXPLODING over the summer as a result of two very big back to back updates.

Did Maple's recent server issues begin around 5 PM PST yesterday? This month, Nexon patched in an event for DN where people are required to login during very specific 2 hour windows on specific days of the week. TONS of people flooded in because the event introduced new items that the very balance of the game depended on in the versions ahead of us, causing the game to constantly crash. We only held two of them (5-7 PM PST last night, 12-2 PM PST earlier today) before our developers decided to conduct an emergency patch to disable the event permanently for DN North America.

I just think, if the rumors about the servers are true, the Maple community should be aware as well. Both communities need to pressure Nexon to upgrade server capacity for both DN and Maple, and split them away from each other if they are indeed sharing the same server resources.

All the games share some common databases; the Nexon accounts for example.

Even if they're all running on distinct hardware though, they could all share the same network congestion. There's many things that can cause a shared/simultaneous disruption without this necessarily having to be the case.

Players should not focus on trying to identify the root cause and lobbying for a specific thing to be fixed so much as pressuring the company to find it and fix the impact it's causing, otherwise you run the risk of sending them off after a red herring that costs them money and only earns them more annoyance and frustration if they fix the wrong thing because they kept being told it was the problem.

Nexon's entire net seems to be down.
