Some people are speculating that the timeline will be revealed in it. I think they're just reading far too into it. Aonuma has stated that he and his co-workers think that the timeline shouldn't be revealed for specific reasons.

I won't get my copy until the end of January since I'm pre-ordering Sasameki Koto vol.9 as well.... Gunna bug le gf to tell me what's going on in it. :3

And yeah, highly doubt timeline would be revealed.

Based on the translations, it looks like we finally have confirmation of a timeline split at the end of Ocarina of Time. We'll have more details on this momentous unveiling as they arise!

He did. He stated that there was a timeline split in the interviews leading up to Wind Waker's release.


The translated details really don't state anything we don't already know, really. There's not much "new" about it. It is interesting if this book will reveal the entire timeline with explanations on how the games connect, considering how much the development team thinks the games' chronology should stay a secret.

I'm really interested in seeing how close the hardcore fans actually got in their timelines.

What in the world? I'm so confused. I mean, that fits in with the prologue in A Link to the Past where it said, "One day, evil power began to flow from the Golden Land (the Sacred Realm), so the King commanded seven wise men (the Seven Sages) to seal the gate to the Land of the Golden Power."

However, that doesn't explain how Ganon was sealed, how his Dark World came to be (although, I guess this can be explained multiple ways, the easiest scapegoat is that his evil ways caused the Triforce to create a dark, alternate version of the world, which was basically the idea when A Link to the Past was first released, anyway. Later installments in the series created more complications), how Ganon got his hands on the Trident of Power (He's supposed to obtain it at the end of Four Swords Adventures) and at what point Link failed in his quest in the events of Ocarina of Time.

The only scenario I can think of that would branch off to the A Link to the Past split that way would be that Link never came back when he pulled the Master Sword from its pedestal. The King of Hyrule would have to still be alive for that to have happened and the door to the Sacred Realm would still have to have been opened. It would have had to have been that the King ordered the Sages to seal the door to the Sacred Realm when Ganondorf managed to find the Triforce in the Sacred Realm after Link entered and disappeared. I have no clue what would have happened to Link, though...

So in other words, pineappleing older Zelda caused the "3rd" timeline split to happen.
1st split = Link never returns after the Master Sword. More of a "Limbo" state.
2nd split = Older Zelda sends older Link back to his childhood to relive his lost days.
3rd split = Post Ganon defeat where the Hero of Time went "Missing", as per what the WW intro said, because older Link is traveled back to his childhood and ceases to exist.

Plus wouldn't Minish Cap technically be before SS since MC doesn't have the Master Sword?
Seems a bit weird to have the game, where the Master Sword is created, be before a game where the sword doesn't even exist period.

I just hope the book actually explains the reasoning behind the timeline, because I'd like to have SOME food for thought...

Looking over the timeline, freaking Lancun was pretty damn close with his timeline placement, although he went with a 2 split pathway instead 3. Gotta give him kudos.

Yeah. It's basically the same as what I had been thinking about, too. The only difference (aside from the third split) was that I thought that Four Swords would take place only just before Four Swords Adventures.

Skyward Sword -> Minish Cap -> Ocarina of Time (Timeline Splits)

Adult Timeline : Wind Waker -> Phantom Hourglass -> Spirit Tracks

Child Timeline : Majora's Mask -> Twilight Princess -> Four Swords -> Four Swords Adventures -> A Link to the Past -> Oracle of Seasons -> Oracle of Ages -> Link's Awakening -> NES Legend of Zelda -> Zelda II : The Adventure of Link

Re-watching Lancun's timeline made me wonder how they're going to explain the 1st split since the "Silver Arrows" were designed to "kill Ganon once and for all". If that's the case, how the hell does he come back lol? Nevertheless he gets "Silver Arrow'd" again in LoZ1, which is a bit awkward.

Well, the events of the Oracle games and the whole deal with Zelda II tell us that Ganon can be revived.
