Pokémon Black and White versions
It's sad, but Smugleaf reminds me of this more than Treecko:

But back on topic, I don't mind the constant moving, but it doesn't seem like a major change (ie: Pokemon in Crystal ver could already move a bit before battle animation, such as a Suicune roaring, etc). I'm game for everything else though.

Just think about the implications this is going to have. They're likely doing this for all 500+ Pokemon. Imagine all of your favorite Pokemon animated.

Then think about what everything we're seeing now might mean for the inevitable 3rd gen remakes. Complete overhaul of every city in 3rd gen, much?

Completely agree.
It looks f'ucking great.
Pretty hyped for this gen.

Pokemon Base HP
Bulbasaur45
Charmander39
Squirtle44
Chikorita45
Cyndaquil39
Totodile50
Wotter and Emboar look like they're bulky mother pineappleers.

It's possible that stats got buffed this gen for all pokes.

3rd gen won't be remade, since the only reason RBY and GSC were remade was because it was hard to get the pokemon in those versions to your DS game.

I suppose that's another assumption I made: That they didn't change formulas and stuff.

Missing out on cash? Nonsense!
Kids who play pokemon games now were in diapers for RSE. There's no reason NOT to remake.

Yeah, I'm hoping that they're going to do this. At some point, they have to overhaul the base stats of most, if not all Pokemon. It's not like all of the UU Pokemon should stay UU forever, and I hope GameFreak realizes this.

@above regarding 3rd gen: Eh... Yeah, you're probably right. But then again, one could argue that it's going to be harder to get 3rd gen Pokemon, what with the latest variations of the DS not being backwards compatable with GBA carts. Sure, a large majority of the 3rd gen Pokemon can be caught between Platinum and HG/SS, but it's not particularly easy either.

Plus, I just realized that there probably hasn't been a Deoxys event since FR/LG.

I don't think so
It was possible to get them off of the gamecube games.

They were probably made because they wanted the newer generation to play the original games.
Theres no doubt that 3rd gen will be remade.

They probably do have EVs in HP. Don't see why they would change the formulas all of a sudden.

Not sure if I understood you right, Dusk, but RSE did have EVs for HP, iirc.

No, I mean in the video. According to Hazzy's spreadsheet thingy those Pokemon have massive HP stats in their unevolved form if they have no HP EVs.

On another note, I like how the HP bars start draining as soon as the Pokemon starts flashing. That was always annoying as pineapple, watching a long animation end and then your Pokemon sits there losing HP for 10 seconds. The animations seem faster, too, though that's only from a sample size of three attacks.

UGH.
Why the hell are they still using the super slow battle system? The home console games had a nice way of running the battles. The damage animation happens AT THE SAME TIME that the HP and battle message displays. I don't understand why after 5 generations, we still don't have this on the handhelds. We're still using the freaking "attack animation (slight pause for the hit blink) → HP reduction (sight pause) → Battle message" crap. Makes battles longer than they should be, also a pain for wifi battles because all of those slight pauses become more apparent and drag out longer.

Not sure how I feel about moving 2D sprites. Right now it looks too jerky and unnatural. May take some getting used to. I like the movements for the console games, but not sure what I think about 2D sprites moving around like that.

Every Gen had EVs, it's just nobody really looked into that crap before GBA era because they were too busy using the internet to talk about Pikablu instead of game mechanics.

Really now? I was watching this earlier live, so didn't have a chance to rewind. It seemed to me that it still followed the old battle style. Give me a sec, checking the youtube videos. In any case, the HP reduction and battle message should happen at the same time that the animation is going on. I really don't see any reason why they couldn't do this. If they don't want their pretty animations to be covered by the battle interface, then they could always use the bottom screen to display HP and such while during the attach phase if the battle.

the HP bar drains as the flashing animation starts as you can see in the videos posted above Big Grin

Yea, it looks like the battle system is a bit faster this gen.

It's so epic how Smugleaf crosses his/her arms when it attacks. Loving how the Pokemon actually move instead of being static now.

Okay, after seeing the youtube videos:

HP drainage as soon as the blinking starts is okay, and the HP does seem to go down pretty fast. Can't tell, we'll see how someone like Blissey looks when taking a hit in battle. Having to sit there for a full 4 seconds while watching a Blissey's bar drain is so annoying.

As for the animations - they look like they were made in freaking flash. Too choppy and unnatural looking. It's not smooth at all. Their limbs look like they're separate pieces screwed onto each other. I mean, they're most likely separate sprites stitched together, but they don't have to make it look like they're separate parts. Also seems like something that will get old very quickly. Still iffy on this addition. I'll have to see more footage to make a solid judgment.

Also, it's possible that the animations will get more polished in the final release anyway.

Expanded on this.

I feel like I did something wrong. Someone else want to give it a shot and see if our results match? Or if someone has another level 50 Pokemon with known IVs / HP that I could put in my sheet to see if it works right, that'd be great.

Looks like your charts are backwards, stats getting lower with more IV/EVs in them?

Nevermind, didn't realize they weren't cumulative
