Lol how about Somersault Kick, Backspin Blow and Corkscrew Blow.
I hate first person games, so much so I've never played any.

You clearly dont realize how fast savage blow is in 6 positions, and boomerang step, that cant be replicated by any human, first person shadower your screen would just be a blur.

It would be fun if they remade the game to work like a FPS. I personally love FPSes, and one of my most played games of TF2. If they took the skills and adjusted them so they made sense in a first person kind of way it would work.

10/10. Excellent.
Would've went off myself, if lots of other people hadn't already. Lol

I play MS because I like the way it is. If it was any other style, I wouldn't be playing it. MS wouldn't work in 1st person at all.

Unless, like I said they essentially made it a different game with keeping the basic jobs/skills the same.

But why would you do that, other than for lulz and the sake of familiarity? It's not like MS has a very well designed class/skill system. My favorite aspects of this game are the artwork and the 2d platforming; if it were a first person 3d game I'm not sure what would be left for me to like.
Edit: About platforming in 1st person games: I hate it. It's hard to get a feel for the physics, and it sucks when you can't see where the hell the ground is when you're jumping over a gap.

E-Excuse me? Metroid Prime had tight controls. I never had problems jumping where I needed to jump unless I got rammed by an enemy.

Stay away from my Maple, 1st person. I can't begin to imagine how dizzy I would get on my Pirate, and feel REALLY bad for Thieves.

Halo 3? Oblivion alone seems to cover the general idea quite nicely. Either way, it's still a pretty bad idea, and this is from someone who's played Oblivion for nearly 3 years and logged in at least 600+ hours across all of my characters.
Tossing out random stuff...
- Mages and Archers would be the most broken classes ever. Archers get far range skills with splash damage, and Arrow Rain/Eruption/summons/PKB to slap everything around that dares get close to you. That's not even taking Puppet into consideration. Mages are self-explanatory.
- Glitch abuse by players. Oblivion, like most other free-roaming 3D games, has glitchy environments. I know this isn't explicitly about 3D games, but first person gameplay seems to imply something like that.
- Glitch abuse by enemies. Where's my paper with that running tally about how many times I've seen bandits spawn inside of a rock or inside the floor and fire arrows out of it while I can't do anything unless I have area of effect spells?

Took the words right out of my mouth. The first First Person game I played was Metroid Prime. To put it lightly, it was the worst game I had ever played. -_-
Nty to First person MapleStory.

To answer the bowman, and mage ideas, saying they can go anywhere, well there's ALWAYS a "lock on target" button.

People need to stop putting Metroid as their example for why FPS's are bad. Like any genre, there are going to be bad FPS's. And like every game, there are gunna be the people that hate it with their every fiber. Maple is a 2D mmo. It works that way. A FPS out of it would be bad, because everything about maple was made for a 2d enviorment.
And do people really feel constrained in a FPS? maybe if you can't turn your head, but it lets you get really close looks at the enviorments and such. When you need to get a good view of something in LoZ, what do you do? You go to first person.
And @ above, /mu/ right?

It wouldn't be Maplestory.
I like Maple the way it is. I probably wouldn't play it if they made major changes like that.
The whole reason I started playing was because of the "Anime 2D Side Scrolling MMORPG" concept.

Although I won't step into the Prime argument (I found all 3+1 had flawless first person platforming)...
Here's a better example:
Mirror's Edge.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed them game, I found its first person platforming to be quite annoying. It was hard to land your jumps because you couldn't see your feet, there were a TON of leaps of faith were I just jumped not knowing what I would grab, and the button scheme made the already frustrating platforming even worse! I applaud the game for being revolutionary, but it really didn't execute it well at all.
More ontopic, if Maplestory is a 2D world, and we were to go in the 1st person, we'd technically be seeing a 1 dimensional cross section of that 2D world. So basically, there would be a 1pxl Line where the front most pixels of a monster would just move up and down, and platforms would be indistinguishable from eachother.
Unless you ment 3D maple with a 1st person. I wouldn't really like that.
Although I would like 3D 3rd person maple in a WoW or Everquest type fashion (just with more of MS's signature platforms)

Wow, I didn't think so many people would react like that to a comment about Metroid Prime. I didn't care for the game, but that's beside the point. While the majority of the gameplay was just fine (and to be fair, I really enjoyed certain parts of the game), I have fond memories of one particular room (I think it was darkish blue, I can't remember where it is) where I couldn't jump across a bunch of stupid mushrooms for a half-hour because I had no idea where I was standing or where I was landing. The concept of first-person platforming is flawed and would only result in agony.
However, Metroid Prime is less of a platformer than Maple. Precise jumping and character control are much more important in Maple, where a misstep can kill you and have many more negative consequences than Prime. And lets not forget jump quests, which are already hard enough for some people. Besides, a lot of the best graphics that are done (your own character, nearly anything that you yourself do) wouldn't be seen by you. You wouldn't know what you look like and you'd need to look at someone else just to see what an effect like Hurricane looks like.
Imagine if you were forced to play Oblivion or similar in first-person mode the whole time. That'd suck, right?

Oblivion does have a third person view. It is abysmal compared to the first person view. Oblivion (or heck, the entire main Elder Scrolls series in general) was made for first person. I have a very hard time aiming with a bow and spells in third person (And I'm a PC user. I shudder to think how difficult aiming must be on a 360 or PS3).
Since hitboxes do not appear to be designed very well in some cases (you might have to aim TOWARDS THE FLOOR in order to hit a flying Imp), third person can be difficult for melee characters too.
The animations... Walk off a reasonabily high ledge (which happens nearly 50% of the time in certain regions, especially east Leyawiin and the entire mountain range around Bruma and Cheydinhal), and it looks like you're running on some falling invisible treadmill in mid-air until you hit the ground.
*shudder*
Note that I am not outright saying that Oblivion is a bad game. Oblivion is quite enjoyable if you're willing to put the time into it despite the myriad of graphical weirdness/glitches it seems to have.
------
That said, I also think that 3D and First Person is a bad idea for Maple in general. In order for something like this to work, there's going to have to be some restructuring on how certain things work, especially skills involving teleportation and jumping.
More random thoughts...
- Avoidability will probably be less useful, since you can likely just dodge attacks manually, though Avoidability might be used for some 'last second avoid' mechanic or something. Same thing applies to Accuracy.

OR you could just have avoid determine how fast your character can sidestep/barrel roll (lols) and well as how far they can go when doing so ^^. And how bout if accuracy made it so that the controls reacted a lot more smoothly than for people without any accuracy. (of course not mages)
