Why did you first start playing this game?

I couldnt get past lvl 20 on wow

All the cool kids were doing it. Well, my best friend got into it when some older kids in band camp were playing beta and then I picked it up along with everyone else in our group right after beta ended. I'm the only one who kept playing after high school. Now I just use their crummy old accounts for event farming lol

My step brother got me into it. he was a beta player. convinced me, several of my cousins and a lot of my friends IRL to play together. Ironically, I was the slowest one to level of the bunch(as I played bowman, while they played thieves), though historically, I'm the only one of the large group to ever hit 200 due to persistence

I was making the MapleStory jump sound because the sound was just so pleasant to me when I was sitting in my desk in class.

this. and the sound snails make when they die.
though now the double jump sound has overrun it for most classes.

I watched a friend play it over at his house (Staying over and stuff), Killing YETIS and the awesome EL NATH mountain background, just made me ask where do you get this game and how.
It just looked so friggin cool from every aspect I could see, I think this was back in 2006? Jesus.

I honestly have no idea. I think my cousin introduced me to it. Back then we only had dial-up, and there was no MSEA so I had to play on GMS with my shitty internet. Patches took upwards of 20 hours to download.

It was 2006 and someone mentioned it to me so I decided to try it.

My story is very similar to SaptaZapta's story, and from reading the IGN, we are more or less the same age...
My daughter was about 9 years old when she asked to download this game for her. She hardly knew any English and my husband was explaining the quests to her.
I did not know computer games at all, and one day I asked to see what they are talking about.
I remember I was amazed that I can talk and meet other people from other places and that those cute pixels can communicate.
My daughter does not play maple for years now but I got addicted.
I did not look for anything particular, maple is the only game I know and ever played.
I love to meet and talk to interesting people. I love to learn about other places and I love to achieve small achievements for myself.

He quit within a year. I didn't

I remember that my friend started playing before me and sayed about a game with magicans and warrios but also a taxi to move yourself, and also he was saying about the classes, and i was indecised with the magican that healead others and the warrior with shield, and i ended up with the cleric cause he could heal other , at least it was much easyer to level up with this class .

Two friends played Beta, convinced my brother to play at around v.13. I thought it looked terrible. I broke down and tried it, got addicted after they stopped playing. Quit actually "playing" in late 2012 I think. Logged in maybe once in last 5 months. Real reason for quitting: refused to try and make "new" friends, and all the older players I played with had quit.

It has been a long time, I think I got into it a few months after beta ended...
My friends were all playing and they spent so much time on it they stopped chatting on MSN...
So I started playing too... I remember the days when the installer was only 500mb and fitted on a CD-R,
before they even set up the CS, and released pets. When it took us who wanted to be Mage a few days to leave Maple Island because you only deal 1dmg to red snails...
Met a lot of people and made IRL friends. I also met my long term BF who I am still with now on MS.
No regrets.

Man that's a long time ago. I sadly think that forum has shut down now, was a good forum for a while.
