I agree with a lot of what you said, it was certainly a packed episode. I am extremely disappointed that they didn't show Patchface yet, but I imagine we will see him in future episodes.
I also found the scene between Jamie and Brienne to be very well done. I think they portrayed his inner turmoil excellently and I am very excited to see where the series goes after this!
Things That Bothered Me (book spoilers)
I am very bothered that they changed Robb's decapation of Lord Karstark in the show. In the book it took Robb more than one swing to decapitate him, to which Catelyn noted that "he is still just a boy" or something along those lines. In the books, the ability to decapitate one's enemies in a single blow shows that they have come into their own and that they have developed. Some examples of this are that Theon cannot decapitate Ser Rodrick in one blow and it takes John more than one swing (iirc) to kill Lord Janos Slynt (I have a theory on this as well )
George Martin loves to include subtle themes and concepts into this story which portray the development of his characters and this was one of my favorite ones. Makes meh sads.

While I do kinda agree, they did that with Theon already. It would have been quite stale if done a second time. Theon failing at decapitation is still probably quite fresh in peoples mind.
And I think showing Robb ignoring his loved ones and trusted advisors more than showed how "young" they are making him seem. I think they are building up to the Red Wedding quite nicely, by showing how Robb is unraveling as a leader and as a man. Like saying "Oh I know that Frey is an absolute madman, and I made a promise and broke it, but maybe he'll help me"
At the moment Robb is just floundering about from one failure to the next. It's quite obvious that he's lost.

That's a good point and I agree that it is clear that Robb is screwed at this point. I really like how the show has been adapted from the book. It really is such a shame though. He had such potetial before he broke his marriage vows T_T
no seriously TV viewers, there are some heavy spoilers
FINALLY starting to build towards the second wedding. Seriously can't wait to see people who haven't read the books reactions to both those weddings. I actually had to put my book down and take a walk of sadness when I thought Arya died when the hound hit her with the back of his ax outside the 2nd wedding. I -really- hope the show does all these crucial scenes justice
I really liked this weeks episode. My roomates and I totally saw Melisandre coming to see the Brotherhood , although I didn't expect Gendry to be taken away. I wonder if Davos will smuggle him away from Stannis instead of Edric Storm like in the books. It is clear that Robb is super pineappleed now, there really isn't any way around it.
Also an interesting turn of events with John and Igrit. I didn't expext her to realize that he was still a Crow. I am wondering how they are going to kill her off so we can move closer to John becoming Lord Commander.
ALSO all this s'hit with Sansa. God dammit girl, you should have just left with Little Finger when you had the chance. Now someone is going to have to smuggle your ass out at some point.

My coworker and I watch every episode during work because we never have anything to do Sunday Night/Monday Morning, and we both just crack jokes left and right during Sansa sections because she just seems so annoying and worthless. He's read the books too, he said to me that, at least for him, most of the Sansa perspective chapters he was just like "Okay, crying and moaning upcoming." It's very clear that she's just a puppet, at least right now, and because of it I don't really care for her at all. I think that Arya and Sansa are polar opposites; all of Arya's sections are awesome and I care about her while I don't give two sh'its about Sansa at all.
So according to wikis Gendry was never sold to Mellisandre in the books so is the show finally trying to trick us into not knowing what is next? HMmmmmm

Have you read the books? She is basically important because of her lineage and not much else. Yea, atm I do agree she is very annoying and naive. It's pretty funny in a sad sort of way

I have not read the books, but I figured it out pretty quickly. They also make it kind of obvious because that was pretty much said flat out by I believe Tywin in the show I think last episode, so it's obvious. Something like, "She's the key to the Stark house." That's basically what my coworker said too a while back, but not before I had figured it out anyway. She's so annoying, so we make her sections interesting by just making fun of her the entire time she's on screen.
I mentioned in my post "at least right now" when referring to her because there's always the very slim chance that she stops being completely ignorant and worthless and actually starts thinking. Then again, since I haven't read the books I don't know her train of thought outside of what the show shows...so she could just be as dense as a rock and as dumb as one too.

My coworker has been saying they are changing a lot from the books in this season. For example, he was saying that Jamie lost his hand in a completely different way, and that John climbed the Wall differently and a few other things. Honestly I don't really mind that the book and show have diverging stories, because if I ever did decide to pick up the books, it wouldn't be as if I was reading the same exact thing as I had watched. It doesn't bother me at all if the story changes, as long as it stays as good as it has been.

Yea the way John scaled the wall was different than in the books, but the way Jamie lost his hand was pretty close iirc. Some things they need to change because there are way too many characters to deal with in the show and since they cannot show a character's thoughts, they have to adapt a lot of scenes for the show to make sense. For example: in the books, Littlefinger never had that woman helping him in his affairs so she never got the chance to spy on him for Varys. Regardless, it certainly made for an interesting storyline, just like Podrick being amazing at sex and Theon's struggle being revealed to us a lot earlier than in the books are entertaining.
I have a pretty good idea what is going to happen to Gendry, I believe I put it in a spoiler up there somewhere. It is hard to discuss what is going on in this show when some people haven't read the books and others have.

Jaime lost his hand in pretty much exactly the same way in the books. likely even word for word.
In regards to Gendry, I feel that they are fusing 2 different plots together. in the books, Melisandre had to find a bastard of Robert Baraethon. The one she found in the books is a different child, but it's around this point that Gendry's plot stops entirely when he joins the brotherhood. So while it happened slightly differently in the books, it's more or less the exact same thing, just using an existing character who's story is over, rather than confuse things further by introducing more characters. it makes sense to me
Also Sansa's story does get more interesting. definitely more interesting.
CrazyForDex Wrote:So in case some of you have not realized, there is finally another new episode tonight.
I was already so dam excited for episode 9 of this season and last week's hiatus has made me even more jittery.
Two hours left and counting!
I fucking know right. episode 9 was going to be the highlight of my weekend, was so disappointed that they skipped it for a week, especially since it's the episode I've been waiting for since season 3 began (and one of the big events I couldn't wait to see adapted to television)
My coworker and I were so bummed when we realized there was no episode last week. Everything always seems to happen in Episode 9 of the other seasons, so it was the worst place to have a hiatus.
I still don't understand why they had it. I believe it was because the next day was Memorial Day...but they had the first episode of the season on Easter, which means it makes no sense for them to hold off an episode for Memorial Day.
Hnnng, new episode tonight.
It's apparently supposed to be amazing.
I remember when I first started watching it.
I was like "This intro is wayyyyyy too long" and then I actually listened to it...
It's beautiful. :']
I really have to read the books. I actually bought the first 4 books but I haven't gotten around to reading them. I haven't been in a reading mood lately. I'd rather watch the show and then read the books, I don't know why.

As expected, this episode emotionally raped me and I knew what was going to happen.
things that bothered me
-Robb's wife getting stabbed was so brutal, I had no idea how they were going to kill her because she was not at the wedding in the books.
-Also bothered by the fact that the musicians could play fairly well. Although I am glad that the directors did not make it overly obvious, I would have liked things to have followed the book's Red Wedding more closely.
-I wish they would have made it seem that Arya died or was at least left it more clouded in suspense. The books really made it seem like she had been killed. Imo, they should have ended the episode with the Hound riding her down and knocking her out with something.
-No Greatjon wrecking pomegranate or getting hammered. He was such a prevalent character in Season 2 and it seems he has been completely replaced by Bolton.
