So, how many of you are ready?
#21
Clearly this is an enlightening experiment.

Some of you getting partial successes may want to try the test again bypassing any routers you have between you and your modems to see if that causes any differences.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

From what I understand (Warning: Wikipedia speed read!) it was intended to address the issue of IPv4 addresses running out. As you know IP addresses currently look something like this: 255.0.0.0; IPv6 addresses extend a lot further than that to prevent the issue of lacking addresses for all the signed on devices since all connected devices would need its own IP.

Quote:IPv6 uses a 128-bit address, allowing for 2128, or approximately 3.4×1038 addresses, or more than 7.9×1028 times as many as IPv4, which uses 32-bit addresses. IPv4 allows for only approximately 4.3 billion addresses. The two protocols are not designed to be interoperable, complicating the transition to IPv6.

Basically this, but it's worse than that; IPv4 wastes a TON of addresses and is convoluted as all hell for no fucking reason. IPv6 has a much more uniform ruleset and wastes very few addresses.

Believe me when I say I sure didn't think of it that way when I sneaked a peek at my computer's IPv6 address. :f6: Then again, I'm not an expert on this.

Those are more "side benefits" of the redo.
Ultimately the only reason IPv6 got done was the exhaustion of IPv4 address space.
It just used as an opportunity to "do it better" rather than just being a knee jerk sizing increase.

I already know I can't connect to IPv6 websites, since my provider does not support it at this time. Got a 0/10 on the test.

Just do as Eos says first and try that link. If you do it before someone else posts that they can connect to Google using that link you've just earned some Southperry fame!

Whatever that means.

Dammit, I never knew I was that far from getting a cheese sandwich for nothing- sorry, almost nothing since I pay for half of this connection.
