Looking to claim outrageous sums isn't greedy, it's how lawsuits work. It's called a deterrent. The reality of this is that Nexon would've won regardless but the idiots who were being sued could've lessened the damage to themselves and future cases a lot just by showing up. They pineappleed up big time, and they're going to end up paying for it.

I would've gone just to shine a spotlight on the way Nexon runs their business. Explain why these private servers exist and are so popular.

Online. Counting by registered means multiple accounts by the same people, I know for sure people don't have a private server with over 1 thousand people online at any given point. Especially one we've never heard of such as UMaple.

Ey I cant be asked to read all that right now. I feel like it have no barring on the decision whether they showed up or not, besides dramatically lowering the penalty, which is more on copyright infringement. I'm assuming here but I don't think they had a real argument to fight nexon with anyway.

Court of law not the court of justice. Just know that and you'll never be dissapointed/surprised.

1) I highly doubt that Nexon was really looking for the maximum. I mean, really you could just throw it out there and if you get it whee! you got it. If not, you'll get something the judge picks. Either way the judge decides so why not just throw something out there?

2) By not showing up you have only one side of the story. Without the other half of the story it's so much easier to just win. Look at the example of the number of "users" of UMaple. Likely just characters, but given the fact that UMaple didn't show, it's number of users.

There's really only one side of the story here anyways, showing up would just be a waste of time as this is an easy win for Nexon. Only thing you would show up for is to dispute the cash they're being sued for, nothing else.

What proceedings did the court take after the defendant was in absentia? Were any preemptive notifications given to the defendant before the court case? I think stupidity is showing from both sides.
