The One Year Anniversary of the Big Bang
#21
Big bang killed the game for me personally. Cubes were the bullets shot at me, big bang was the infection from the shot

That's a good way to put it, haha.

I loved the BB update mostly because it rescaled all monsters levels, so there were mobs for all levels 1 to 150. Unfortunately that got destroyed quite fasted with LHC, which eventually made all my friends quit out of boredom (and then me).

I actually found big bang to be a pretty good update for maple overall, but as others said, I hate the incredibly condensed maps, and lack of actually cool hiddenstreets, and POTENTIAL. Potential can suck a giant donkey cock.

I wish it had never happened.

Big Bang was bad by itself, and it was even worse in that it opened the floodgates to continuous "rebalancings" that leave nothing consistent in the game. Classes keep changing at random, and new ones tossed in. New entire sets of equips, as well as new scrolling and enhancing options, are introduced continuously, making it impossible to plan your "endgame gear". Mastery books are such hell to obtain and pass that people can indeed get to 120 easily - but most end up abandoning their chars 10-20 levels later.

As for myself, I was 180 when Big Bang hit, 182 when LHC came out. LHC got me to 200, but I would have done it in ToT with my army of rep mules anyway.
My bishop, on the other hand... When we got Potential, before BB, I was easily able to find it some 20% int and make it 100% 1-hit skeles with Genesis 20. It was all set to cruise to 200, helping buddies and guildies train along the way. Then Big Bang happened....

Hate how big bang killed the social aspect of the game. Sure the grind was long and tedious but having buddies or even random people you just met that day training somewhere was fun. Now the only kind of social interaction you have with people before LHC is to tell them to pineapple off your channel. And then newer players wonder why can't they join any bossing groups. Maybe if you had spent less time saying "cc plz" you'd have some friends around your level you could go kill zak with to get your books. Among other things but this is kinda what killed it for me.

As for class balances its starting to get a bit excessive but for those of us in the beginning it is kinda nice how the classes have changed and continue to change. of course that change doesn't need to happen with every change of the season.

To be fair, the social aspect has been weakening long before BB came. When I first got into Maplestory, people hung out in places like weapon and potion shops (in towns other than Henesys), tree dungeons in Ellinia and at the Sleepywood Sauna. Two or three years in, that became a rare sight. Just before BB, many of those places were already deserted. A lot of the players training were always focused and cold.

When potential (and eventually cubes) came around, Maplestory attracted, more than ever before, players who had seeing big numbers as their main or sole priority (and didn't mind investing real money for it). I think that played a huge role in transforming the community to an even more hostile one.

With BB came the reorganization of party quests and the condensing/removal of popular maps, and that pretty much hit the final nail in the coffin. I can't count the number of amazing people I met in the old Ludi PQ, which required players to communicate to complete. The new Ludi PQ, most parties can breeze through without saying a single word. Comparing the parties I PQ'd with many years back to the parties I PQ with these days, there's a glaring difference - a lot of players these days just don't talk (and why should they if they don't need to?). And of course, Henesys Hunting Ground 1 was no more.

Easier levelling and new elements that spoon-feed newbies makes the game more appealing to younger, and/or more impatient players, which probably further contributed to the transformation of the Maple community.

Okay, that's enough speculation backed by exeperiences for one day.

No it won't. Cannon Shooters are boring as f'uck to grind. Stick to your Viper until 200.

That's probably your "shotgun leveling" at fault. I'm still getting it to 200, i just don't know what kind of dedication balancing between cannoneers and the bucc that i'll need to do that. Besides, i'm not going to feed nexon $14 every time i want to switch between the two.

Perhaps. I found myself nearly falling asleep a lot while trying to grind myself to level 130 on my Cannon Shooter. Spamming Cannon Bazooka while jumping down through platforms was boring as hell. It was KIND OF fun to one-hit kill entire platforms of pixies at Orbis PQ, but other than that, I found the class pretty boring after the newness wore off.

Before BB, I was in my "I quit" stage. BB hit and my Khaini archer was around lvl 52. A year later it is lvl 177 and 70% dex. Dam. Forgot how poor and weak I used to be xD

Basically, the new exp curve and new skills made me come back. That and the announcement of LHC and such.

Yeah what liteness said. Once i hit 120 it's going to be a lot different for me than it is for you since LHC still exists. I don't need to leech though, since i have the main stat and resources to support fast training on my own.

I totally know where you're coming from with the whole "lasers are boring" thing, though.

I feel the same. Though I think the worst patch in the game was still Mushroom Shrine 2.0. Himes coming out killed aqua road, then eventually himes were dead too and aqua road STAYED dead even after people stopped going to himes, effectively removing all partyplay for my poor priest.
