I miss maple when perfect equips were not so common. Landing all 60% on a weapon is not considered good anymore
THIS THIS THIS.
I miss the era before dark scrolls hit the scene. Damage ranges between similar players weren't that far off from each other and all. Oh, and epic blue text telling us which hacker scrubs just got caught (a battle ultimately lost, hurr) , oh and GM events, where you know... we actually SAW GMs! The games were meh, but the fun part was running into all your friends while playing them.
Aside from those small gems, i gotta be honest... I don't really miss old maple. I don't miss struggling for pots and crawling back to weaker mobs just to build up pot money, I don't miss the old damage range scale that made jelly classes like archers a pain to survive with, I don't miss 15m Blue Marines for my I/L Mage (a time when meso was a tad bit harder to come by making that 15m a pain). There's just too much i don't miss about old maple. Bring on the new Maplestory, better balanced to suit what it's become.

Hmm yeah, pretty all has been said, and of course with considerations to the bad things that were present in those days: slow levelling (Hot Sands 70+ before Ossyria anyone?), lack of updates, no Cash Shop (hmm... debatable), etc. Still, I do prefer the older Maple just because back then hackers do not run the game and Wizet at least did their half-arse job at handling the hackers that were causing troubles.
Today is just worst, Nexon is completely irresponsible and have shown on multiple occasions that they are either lazy or too stupid to fix the a large mess that hackers have made or even acknowledging problems (Hello Scamdia's week of rollback that nobody ever knew about). I mean sure, there are good things such as some UI features, faster updates, and more events, but it only takes one hacker attack to ruin everything and everything else that's good sure does not mean anything anymore.
In short, the Nexon factor

Do you remember what it was like during the 0.3x and 0.4x days? Good grief the game was hardly playable, and hackers felt a sense of superiority. If you didn't hack the game you were stupid for wasting so much time on it when someone could hack to 120 then "turn legit".
I don't miss those days at all.

IMO, been playing the game for a long time(have screen shots to prove it. still have my first ss on my computer) and i think its better in the more current gen then it was way back when. the only bad consequence atm that affects me is the "wave" community and the cash based system. I personally have 2 theories on this.
The first one is that too many people are too nostalgic, which I name "Nostalgiafargs" because usually;not all the time, they think it makes them look cool that they are an old player. This doesn't just apply to Maplestory, but to everything else, like old tv shows and games like Pokemon. This also applies to real life and not just the online community. Like i know people in RL who say, "Why does Cartoon Network suck now" or "Why isn't there anything good to watch on television anymore" and proceed to compare it to an old show and praise how good it was. What irks me the most about this situation is that they never gave the new show a try. There were 2 instances where this happened to me personally. the 2 shows were Ben 10 and Yugioh 5d's. Personally, i overlooked Ben 10 too at first till i actually watched it. I got to say it wasn't that bad and if i were younger, i know for sure i would have liked it even more. As for YGO5D's, the concept of "Card games on Motorcycles" baffles people but really, you haven't seen the show till you gone through the series. I actually think it was way better than the original series(minus season zero). I've also been told that newer shows like flapjack and adventure time were good, never took the time to see them though. Don't get me started in pokemon. if you say the first gen pokemon is the best when you havent played past the 3rd gen pokemon, your opinion is invalid in the pokemon community *insert angry pokemon face here*
The 2nd theory is simply what i mentioned as the "wave" community.
Simple concept. When a game is new, the community is generally nicer because its full of people who wanted to try out the game. especially in beta. Beta communities are usually better because of the fact the ones who are trying out a new game are usually gaming veterans who want something new for a change. Not going to point fingers everywhere, but once a game gets enough players, comes the advertising. And with advertising(both through internet means and peer to peer advertising) the community grows, as the community grows, competition starts for items and goals. This is the point where anyone who bashes young kids gets added into the mix. The young kids start playing the game, learning it from the adverts or peer2peer and the short tempered veterans start to get angry for the littlest things the young people do or ask, due to plain ignorance on a subject, from there a crappy community is born and will start over again on the next game.
Why did i post a wall of text f5
Feel Free to go though my gallery of some of my hand picked old pics i made in a basil thread about a half a year back

Yeah, the 0.26+ hacks are about when I lost that feeling of "old Maple". When my White Knight couldn't train in Ludi any more, because there were literally vaccers in every map. And you could only report about 10 a day, so I ran out of reports before even hitting all the channels.
That said, I liked the game when it was possible for me to be in the top 1000 players on Bera, cause the world was smaller. That lasted about 60-105, at which point a thousand hackers sped past me.

Same here. I've gone through 2 hard drives and I still have every Maple SS I've ever take since I started playing back in April 2006. I'm up to 2396 at the moment lol
Also pre-x2 card days were really nice, because it didn't turn people into "STFU! I HAVE TO TRAIN! I'M ON x2 EXP!"

Sheep ranch pq omg that was one of my favourate events. Why couldnt it be perma!!!!@@@@@@@@@
Anyway i miss when people wasnt so obcessed with damage and bossing times.. I found it fun getting together as a group to take down a boss, only boss close to that now is pink bean, while hackers pretty much ruin too, since in some worlds they "police" pink bean and others just rape it.
No matter what game your in , theres a very high chance of hackers. But in these last 1-2 years maple has had almost all its fun sucked out. Almost every event with chances of making some spare mesos gets buttpineappleed by hackers , pineappleing over legits.
Don't get me wrong i love new updates, I just hate the new community.

I miss when I was more naïve with maple, having fun by going to new places and not knowing what lied in the depths of dungeons. I miss playing with my friend from Brazil and having other people to play with.
I remember getting guided down to Jr. Balrog by a pro and then getting killed there =D
Anyway, I miss some of the innocence I had and the time when I had more friends to play with, it always sucks when I come back from a break and I have no one to play with (not to mention the game being so less focused on training together with someone).
Edit: Also, agreed with aslemn down there.

Agreed. x 1000.
I miss the much every single player got excited when they knew a new town was supposed to come out. Who doesn't remember how KFT and Omega Sector were exciting to be explored. Exploring... That was the best experience. Everyone was always happy when an update was implemented, when it happened, players used to think on how it was an opportunity to do new quests, in the times people actually cared to quests and how they used to reveal pieces of the game' story, and how a new area, although low leveled for the player, was nice to be explored. Spending a lot of time in graphic improvement of the maps, in creativity, was worth it because players actually cared about such things, instead of this EXP mania that we can see today.
Now, when a new area is implemented, players immediately care about:
Is it a godly leveling area, or just another alternative to the level range? If it's not something THAT great, it's just useless, like Chryse.
What does the last quest in the cycle gives? If it's not a decent equip, it's not worth going there.
No one cares about how the story will continue, if the areas are beautiful or not, if the story's interesting, about exploring, and actually having fun by doing so. No one has interest in such things, the new areas are just being made to implement a new job, or to just be in there with a completely awful storyline. MapleStory has changed drastically since the old times.
It's something you have to deal with, something that won't make you quit completely, but it's something that makes you miss the old days, where leveling twice in a week at 5x was worth it and nice, when completing and equipping a new equip set, acquired through hard work, felt good, about the true fantasy players had by that time, where you could actually live the game.
It just changed too much, it's not that the game became terrible, but the fact it doesn't even look close to the awesome game it used to be. Today, exploring new areas just for fun, waiting until your MP regenerates to hunt more, collecting equips, doing party quests all day and praying for getting an item in the bonus, feeling excited when a new job was implemented, instead of feeling like "Meh, another one" like you can see today. The game has changed enough, to make it look like a completely different game. What was said in Big Bang was true, because after it, the game truly changed completely.

I just miss the days where the entire game wasn't based on how much NX you have to spend. People's ranges were godly when you could land a 10% scroll once and 60% the rest for a +7. Now it's the fact that you need NX to even be on par with "normality" because of the stupid "buy cubes to get the best equipment possible! and btw, it's NX only!" This could really be fixed if they just introduced a non-nx method instead- like 5 70% potential scrolls = 1 cube maybe?
Though i know that i'd never have even reached level 100 if we hadn't had the exp boosters and better monsters to train on. I don't know how people got to 100 before 3rd job was released. grinding at crappy spawn/exp:hp ratio monsters was more like a chore than a game, but really, the game was much more party friendly back then.

This. Scrolling good equips by buying every decent scroll and weapon you could find was kind of fun. The difference between good and great wasn't that much of a gap. Now, the difference is that one does twice of what the other does. I suppose it was that sense of competition, that squeezing out a few more thousand than anyone else in your class ave you a sense of accomplishment. That being able to hit higher gave you recognition. It's still there, but shooting to do well is almost fruitless. There are a few other things that I might miss, but I loved Big Bang.

Yes, like Shidoshi said, I miss the innocence. Going somewhere just to explore. When I played, I would go into an area, train there for a level, then go to the next area. It gave exploration something fun to go along with it. Another thing that I missed was when CPQ wasn't only about B>/T> wins. >.> It made those levels boring, knowing you would lose a round. I guess there isn't much you can really do to better geared people, but still, it's always fun to try. I guess I just felt the only thing I was really doing was trying to level up. Wasn't really engaging enough for me.
I also miss when people wanted to start out with you. It guess everyone was trying to rush to get their jobs. I remember when I made my pirate (lol not even a veteran) I just waited in the beginner area on channel one, and would scream "WHOEVER WANTS TO HAVE A FUN TIME TRAVELING AS A PARTY, COME WITH ME! LETS MAKE THIS FUN!". We'd go around, waiting for each other, grinding everywhere together. ;-;
SS's..... I have one that I find cool. When I made a WH people didn't think the summons could hurt the enemies, so I showed a ss of them
doing. Turns out there was no actual damage though, which made me QQ kinda.
See my blue pony thing.
When's the last thing Nexon did something good for maple? I think when they let you pick out different clothes then what was there, but now there's just gonna be a bunch of metro (forgets the hair name) or w/e papayas running around.

Old Maple pineappleing sucked. IDK why anyone would miss it nostalgiapapayaging and 2x events aside. Most of the time the only reason people think old Maple was "good" was because they were new to the damn game. Obviously it's going to start sucking and getting boring eventually.
If anything the only thing that's really worth missing is not having potentials. You know, when bosses were actually somewhat challenging and nx whoring on cubes wasn't necessary to be on par with everyone else.

It's just them Nostalgia goggles.
Though the potential system was a bit too much widening the gap between players far too much.

Why do people keep talking about potential? It is not like you have to buy into potential, you're still going to 2 - 3 hit monsters on your level apart from those in LKC.
