This is also why I uninstalled it recently. 2 Hours? Hell, I wound up checking the clock at 4:30 AM without realizing the time had passed.
I'm making a lot of progress now with my backlog of console titles, yet... I want to go back. ... On second thought, I'll try to remove this game from my memory as well.

Well, Justin and I played TF2 till like 3:30 and I said I had to sleep...
The 2 hours flew by though. I play on a few maps with 50 minute time limits. a game seems to fly by.

Zombies are harmless as long as you have a sword and aren't out numbered. Even creepers are easy to deal with, if you have room to backup. Skeletons are what you should fear. Skeletons and their arrows.
I also want a minimap.

Yeah, Skeletons are the only things that have killed me now (Twice). I did run away from 2 zombies that popped up somehow in my mine.

I just purchased Minecraft a few days ago. It's making me angry.
I've been playing single-player Survival for a while now, and I have a lot of trouble with surviving. Every time I explore a cave to search for resources, I get raped by a Skeleton or a Zombie. I use stone tools and weapons (Primarily my pickaxe and sword, respectively) and I have no armor. I know how to craft, and I know all of the basics (Use plenty of torches, always have some pork readily available, etc), but that doesn't keep me alive when I'm down in those caves.
My "home" is about three minutes away from the spawn point, so the walk isn't too annoying yet, but my routine so far goes a little like this: Try to explore, die, walk back and collect what I dropped, die again. Can anyone give me some tips? I'm playing on "Normal" difficulty and refuse to go any lower. I don't think I'll enjoy the game knowing that I'm playing on a difficult that is fit for babies. I just want to mine! BUT I CAN'T!

In single player survival just change the difficulty to "Peaceful" no monsters, ever.

I just restarted, my first world was all snowy and that was cool, but everywhere looked the same because of the snow.
Im on the second night, the first night i got raped by spiders << so the next day I started to build my "Home" in the middle of a giant pond. And just to ensure that I wont die from spiders, i put myself ontop of this stack of blocks.

TNT will not destroy blocks when submerged in a fluid. Pour water on TNT, set it off and run. It keeps it's shockwave, and this is the principle behind TNT Cannons.
Edit: Oh, Creepers. I read "TNT, guys".
Hit a creeper and run. When it's quiet, hit it again. Repeat this until it suicides or until you kill it. I have never died to a creeper since starting this.

First off, if you don't need it don't bring it. Make a storage room and fill it with your pomegranate. Put a door to it if you're worried about creepers sneaking in.
I am not a fan of cooked ham as a source of health. While I'll slay pigs I run into, I prefer to mass wheat. "Plow" some grass somewhere until you have a few seeds, then make an indoor farm. Depending on your map, you could easily make a sun-room indoor farm. Throw all your spare coal into torches to light up the farm during the night and you'll be fine. My map is really mountainous. My base is in the side of a cliff. A sun roof is not a practical method for me. Smoother maps can, however.
My farm pattern is as fallows:
C = crop/dirt
P = path
W = water way
C-P-C-W
My farm is entirely underground, so I proceed to spam torches like no tomorrow, as seen here.
Really simple. I don't mirror it because I like having one aisle to walk down. There might be better ways, as I'm still playing with farming. I would Google around if you want to get into more exactness of it.
Protip for water: A-B-C is a 3x1 hole in the ground, 1 block deep. Place a bucket of water in A and C. B will always be a source, even if you pick it up with a bucket. Essentially infinite water springs. Making more than 2 buckets is wasteful, most of the time.
Three wheat can then be turned into 1 bread: A nice renewable resource that won't wear down your weapons. Stone Spade thingie should be fine for plowing.

Well, my Castle is like... 8 blocks up in the air now. It seems that Creepers and Zombies ALWAYS SMELL ME OUT! No matter what I do, every morning there are like 4 of them swimming in my moat.

You could try dropping sand on creepers. The Zombies should burn. If they don't, get a dry moat?

Put torches around the outside of your castle on the walls or the ground around it, it keeps them away, and also make a roof if you haven't already.

Well for right now, its still 8 blocks up. I have my smelter, chest, and crafting box thing inside the first floor. MY BASEMENT HAD ZOMBIES AND A SKELETON IN IT SOMEHOW! I have stairs that go up to my roof. Right now im extending my roof using the..rocks (Brown Cube). From here I will make my castle.

Well if you haven't already found out, the key is torches, lots and lots of torches, on my castle I had a torch every 2 blocks on the outside and on the inside and Ihad torches in other areas around the castle, they don't go near torches from what I've seen.

I need to rustle up more coal.
