Final Fantasy XIII impressions

The Collector's Edition is $139.95 here...

I watched the trailer and it looks...cheesy. The battle systme looks pretty silly too.

Never been overly interested in Final Fantasy, then again, I blame those Final Fantasy 7 fan-boys. I did enjoy Dissidia's storyline though, it drew me in and I wanted to play more in order to see how certain characters would interact with others. So far, I enjoy playing as Squall, Tidus, Cloud (Even though I hate FF7..), and I definitely enjoy Zidane! Zidane's extremely fast, agile, and can combo extremely well if you space properly. I only play Cloud because he has a variety of skill selections to choose from, where as Squall is more predictable since he has a smaller skill-list/movepool.

But uh, back to Sarah's point, yeah, the Role levels don't seem to do anything, maybe just raise stats for all parameters? I haven't looked. They're kind of expensive too, so there must be a point.

Role Levels give bonuses. Level 2 COM, for example, raises the user's damage output (magic and physical) by 110% and the party's damage output by 5%.

I'm loving it so far, the linearity isn't really noticable in my opinion, though that could be because I'm not focusing on it. The battle system requires strategy and the constant cap on the Crystarium makes it so you constantly have to utilize strategy rather than powerlevel your way through a tough boss. The story is interesting and fluid (one of the better parts of the linearity of the game.) and the characters are for the most part interesting, though two of them in particular can get quite annoying. Overall though, an amazing game and I recommend it fully to any RPG fan.

I wanted the Collector's Edition, didn't know it was that much, holy pomegranate. I have a lot of money to waste, so if I could've I would've probably bought it.

But seriously guys, you should really try it. FFXIII could make a great first Final Fantasy game.

@above, Hope at the beginning (and now a little too) and Snow annoyed me, but now it's just Vanille a little, and Snow. But Vanille is funny, so lol.

You do know that I'm talking about the cost of FFXIII in Australia. Duno what it costs anywhere else. Chin

I'm like 2 hours in and I'm not having fun. It's completely linear, the battle had no depth (yet) and the camera and moving around is clunky.

Keep pushing, it gets better.

Has anyone figured out how to "upgrade" mastered equipment? Does it only work with weapons? What level do they master at? I've got a dozen mastered accessories and none of them can be upgraded. I also have some level 23 weapons and they're still not mastered. I hope to god I don't have to take them to 100.

Chapter 5 boss was a bitc h, and this dual boss is shaping up to be annoying too.

What system are you guys playing on? Is it any different feeling on the PS3, I wonder (if anyone knows)?

I think it feels weird playing a FF game on the 360.

You can only upgrade Mastered Equipment with a certain mineral. Max level for weapons is about ~25, I think.

I'm at the 2nd battle of Bal-wahthever etc about 32-33 hours in, chapter 12 I think. I was winning (The battle went really slow, but I got him down to 1/4th) and he casted his Doom bullpomegranate on me. Screw that. I'm going back to the Archylte Steppe and complete some quests and level pomegranate. Then I'll come back and rape him.

I'm playing it on a PS3, nothing special really.

PS3 and 360's versions are pretty much identical if I've heard right.

You seem like the kind of person who would say it feels weird to play FF on a nintendo system, too, though.

Anyone who wants to upgrade their weapons quickly and easily (but it's not cheap...) click the spoiler below.

How to make your weapons AWESOME

I found that in a mini-guide, but the translations were different, so I have to find the real names of the items.

Also, all tier 1 weapons max out between 21 - 26

double post!!!

I just beat it. The end is super long. Like 20 minutes of cinemas. My final time was 57 hours, but I had spent a lot of time doing missions. Going to put story time between 40 and 45 hours.

Also Mission 34 is the best guys. Do it as soon as you can.

Just got this yesterday and I'm about 15 hours in. I really like it so far. I don't really mind the linearity either.

Thank you for indirectly convincing me to get it, Sarah. ^o^
