I remember how fun it was to Zakum when we used 2 hours on the first arms, because then it was challenging to kill Zak. Nowadays, that's a horrible speed. Any run that doesn't kill Zak is considered failure and doesn't happen.

ndynslvr Wrote:More damage gets more things done. More damage allows you to time trial for bosses and killing faster = fun. So by that, I assume the faster you get things done, the more fun it is? I'd rather have a long, drawn out battle than one that ends before 5 minutes has even elapsed... The shorter the battle, the more boring it is.

When things become easy enough that you don't even consider the possibility of failure, they become routine and boring. Zakum was fun back when it was actually considered a threatening boss and it took 3+ parties to take it down. Now I usually go on runs with 1-2 parties, where a third to a half of the people are just buying helms, and the rest of us down it in 20-30 minutes. I just go for the easy money. Pap is the same way. It's less repetitive than grinding, but it's still a pretty routine solo. I prefer duoing or going with parties of random 3rd jobbers, even if it isn't as good for me.

I've been playing maple since June 2005 I believe, I had missed the first anniversy. The first person I met was a level 52 i/l mage who was doing like 300 with lightning bolt, I was like "Wow, you hit high!"
Anyways, I think Maple has always been about damage, whether you thought about it or not. The only thing that held us from being "damagewhores" were friends and the fact that we'd been introduced to a new game. We tried to make friends with people who helped us to become "stronger" (level-wise) and gave us tips and items. Also, the new game thing, that is true for all mmorpgs. If you know nothing about a game, you'll always try to grasp an understanding of it before you go head over heels for it. New towns were being released and people rushed to find get training areas/explore. Later on in maple, most of the content had been discovered, forums had been created, threads were made to guide people and damage became bigger than the friend counterpart... Old maple left us with naive thoughs, it's kinda like the world now. We grow up and realize many things.
I think I've become a lot less of a damage whore since I first started, actually. I forged 2 INT gloves when I was still in first job, running around to the NPCs and collecting items... Spent a lot of money on a 78/7 Cromi and an 85/8 Thorns, both quite well-scrolled for that day with a 10% and most of the 60s working.
Now that I'm a bishop, my equips won't affect my training speed at all until I get to late 17x and can 1hko Skeles at some reasonable %. So, I still work on my equips, because it's something to do, but I don't really care much about when I get to my equip goals as long as it's somewhat around when they matter. Also, I discovered that people would call my page "godly" even if she wasn't really, just decently equipped. I guess I've been feeling a bit of peer pressure to upgrade my gloves (10 atk 1 luk), but meh, I don't care very much... It's interesting to see how godly people can get, seeing screenshots on forums and everything, but if you can't afford to compete (and I know that I can't), just make your own goals and try to reach them. I'm going to equip a Reverse Enreal Tear with 41 base LUK. Even though that won't make my damage godly, it'll be fun. Also, hi Dusk! I did my last few EFPQs with you on that bandit. I thought you were someone from Southperry, but I couldn't place you. Hehe.I guess, in the end, I was more worried about my equips back when training was so slow ("10%/hour at 5x is good" kind of thing) that even 1 or 2%/hour more from having good equips would matter. Now, I get 10%/hour solo at 145, and equips don't really affect my training speed at all. ![]() In some ways, having better equips makes messing around with friends more fun... I don't know, I'm thinking about being a bishop with relatively bad equips and no Gen30. I can 100% 2hko Skeles just fine, but I do bad damage on neutral. Because of this, I haven't gone and done ToT quests with my guildies, because the pot costs are high when my neutral Gen damage sucks, and I haven't soloed bosses as much because my damage is pretty weak, even for my class. It is those situations that I want to upgrade equips for... And those are the ones I also find more fun. A similar analogy could be made to having enough accuracy to mess around on a warrior, like bossing when you're low-leveled for it, though you could also add DEX to accomplish that, of course.

Zakumming was one of the best experiences for me as a Night Lord / Hermit when I went into a Zakumming guild. But I joined for my friends, oh irony. I remembered the times there were only 2 NLs, and a Marksmen left, me and the others had to take the 2nd and 3rd body. Didn't take that long.... lol, but it was fun doing a trio against Zakum, LOL!

Zak is still an entertainment for many people like me. I've yet to zak on any of my characters, but when I hit 120 I'll finally enjoy my experience there. It's like what Gimmy said, if you thing the game is getting out of tact, just create your own goals and accomplish them in your own pace.
I'm trying to hit 100 before Halloween, so I can relax and enjoy November month! (mhhm, smell that turkey nigga?) There are so many things to do on maple, so damage really shouldn't matter. But the major population kinda pressures the rest of us into doing damagewhoring, it's considered "normal".

My priests and windbreakers equipments is not 'BOOMZ' too but i kinda dont care. I have never really cared about damage when playing maplestory.
Well, atleast I try to get some decent equipment. I scrolled my own maple earrings to 15tma and shine wand to 104tma, 4 wa gloves and etc. so yeah, rub your damage all over my face but it won't move me at all. Moral of the story, atleast try to do it by yourself or work hard for it without any nx or maple cash. Because damage doesnt really matter, equipments should change as you gain level and you should never be outdated unless you're a pure(my priest). I really cant wait to get a medal for my priest and continue training my windbreaker. Not playing aran as i dont have much money.

While changing standards isn't always fun to happen, it means the game is not stagnant. Stagnant/non-changing games don't last very long. Content wise we are waaaay better off than last year or so. With newer content leads to an eventual higher standard for what's good and what's bad.
