Because we're doing that everyday, like you sort of said earlier.
Still talking about me.
Though dang, that's the second time you called me that tonight.
I will never call you Levi. o.o

You definitely stalked me in Henesys earlier.
Wow, off-topic much? .
So, compromise?
Compromise: I change it to Levi, but you can still call me Devin. Lawl.

*shrugs* Sure.
Though, Devin Doolin sounds much better than Levi Doolin.

You two should get together and come up with a brand new name you both like and stick to that.

I could see that being an interesting debate. Quite a lengthy one at that.

HAH.
Watch it change to some Asian last name that we think sounds cool.
You going to suggest a Korean one?

By the Vietnamese custom, couples after marriage do not change their last name iirc

Actually, well...My sister says that on one of my aunt's mail, her last was different, yet when we got tickets to go to CA a few years back, she was definitely a Nguyen still. o.O

I personally cannot wait to change my last name to that of my fiance's. The sooner I can get rid of my father's name the better. To each their own, of course. Different cultures have different traditions.
On a related note, my fiance has also talked about changing his last name to that of his paternal grandfather's, for pretty much the same reason I can't wait to change my name (dads suck.) Unfortunately, it doesn't roll off the tongue quite as nicely.

This. If my last name wasn't so extremely awesome (I honestly love it VERY much), I would want to change it because I hate being associated with that side of my family. I couldn't be less like them, and it's not like any of them (Dad included) have anything to do with us anymore, anyway. But it's just a name, so I can forget about all that and just accept I have an incredible last name!
That aside, if I ever do get married, I'd want my wife to take on my last name. I've just always felt that is the way it should be, and I like the enhanced sense of "connection" it creates. And fun fact: I'm the very last male in my family that can carry on our name. I can make it all end with me if I wanted!

Silly people and your marriages.
The closest thing I get is a domestic partnership, and that makes me sound like my husband (ifievergetone) is a pet.
lmao
Take Nguyen!
White people with asian names are so cool
My last name means "to make gloves"

lmao You could always move to Iowa, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Maine.
Not California yet, though. Judges upheld Prop 8 today. WT California.

One thing no one has mentioned yet is that, if you have any sort of professional history before you get married, changing your name can pineapple it up.
Like me. I'm going to be in research, in chemistry. If anything gets published with my name on it, it's very important for employers to be able to search that up. That's how they judge your work history, and whether you've done anything good. And journals don't go back and change your name retroactively. Some of them don't even fully print hyphenated names, or don't consider the hyphenated name to be the same person as the original name.
I can't change my name.
That being said, I don't want to. My mom didn't change her name. Honestly, I feel it's an antiquated symbol of ownership that has no place in modern culture. But that's just me.

I agree, this would be a cool thing to do.
So, Southperrians don't like their last names all that much? Me either. My last name is Doolin. It'd be better if it didn't have doo in the name. I don't really like that. And Asian names seem to come out smoother and sounding better.
Hm...

I never thought of it as an ownership thing, and I understand that it's a nice unity signifier. I don't have anything against it in general; just for me, I rather keep my name.
As for him taking on Nguyen...There's no reason not to, I suppose, but it seems very strange to me. Though Devin Nguyen doesn't sound too bad.
Wow, indecisive. >.>
