Or, as usual, because Nexon is completely unwilling to say anything publicly, people assume they don't care. They really need some PR work :/ If they'd just said "accounts are suspended pending investigation" maybe people would have a little patience.

Oh ya if they had said to me your account is just suspended pending investigation I'd be cool right now trusting that they really did investigate and see what really happened. But from what information they have given us I have to assume they did the bans and have moved on to something else, and have no plans to reverse any of the bans.

This.
Yes, I did get banned, and yes I am upset, but what I'm most upset about is that we have to do so much guesswork.
Tickets don't get answered in a fashion that could be considered at all "timely."
There were multiple different ban messages, and frankly, if Nexon were better about swallowing just a tiny bit of pride and owning up to a situation when they -realize- that something is wrong, I wouldn't be so annoyed.
As a merchant, I don't feel I deserve the same banning that a hacker does, and as a paying customer (or even as an unpaying user, given that it's a free game ) to Nexon I think I deserve to have my customer service tickets answered in a timely manner. I understand that it's up to Nexon to do what they believe is right, but I think we deserve to be kept in the loop rather than waiting for Nexon to pull their heads out of their asses and deal with this mess. =/

Nexon said they banned people point black. Just cause the game says something different doesn't means nexon is going to change..

People underestimated nexon and thought they wouldn't do anything about this.I said in my bl/guild/alliance that duped items are easy to track and nexon will ban people. Srry besty!
Someone offered me 1.5k chaos scrolls for my 70 pitches and i didn't give in to temptation. I knew nexon was going to act, when packet editing first became public and white scrolls were being duped nexon banned the people that participated. People like hefferheffer still get pomegranate for his skii being duped but everyone who participated in this chaos duping want to find themselves justified for their wrong. Even thou hefferheffer didn't actually use the pe hack people still said he participated in it. What makes all you that bought chaos scrolls any different? You all knew it was a hack and decided to take the risk.
The minute you bought those chaos scrolls knowing it was duped your in the wrong. Stop playing the mentally challenge card in this case.
If nexon decides to answer all tickets and say their decision is final will you guys stop at that? I think not

I'm glad you resisted temptation and didn't get banned, otherwise we wouldn't get such insightful comments.
You know, as much as I agree with you, there are somethings you should know. Have you played since beta? Most of my friends who have played since then have hacked, have they been banned no. I remember the Pre/PerVac, Mouse Vac, Moose Trainer, I can name them all. And I will tell you right now that most of those hackers did not get banned. I do regret not hacking, because ALL of the hackers who ran rampant profited, while I am here a victim of a hacker.
When I first saw that Chaos scrolls were dropping I called a friend and told him to buy some since he has money. He said sure, but he hasn't played MS for a while. He asked me why the prices dropped and I replied with,"I don't know but its pretty cheap, you should buy them before they go away". I too dd not know it was a hack, researching wasn't worth the effort. He bought it then logged off kinda happy. Later that day when HE checked out why it was so cheap he found out it was a hack, GG. Was he mentally challenged? No.
Again, I do agree with you but please try to hold back on the condescending tone. Such as how you KNEW 100% sure that they were gonna act. Don't play the "I can predict the future(or any action of NEXON) card" since they are pretty random with their actions. My friend bought the scrolls, and it was my fault. But, hell was it worth the effort to google it? What if we missed out? What if it really was a good deal? And what if, JUST IF, NEXON didn't ban everyone? What if I TRULY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WENT ON? Would it not be possible?
Don't assume EVERYONE in the world knows that 1+1=2, because you would be surprised when find out some don't

Cynic, I would actually feel infinitely that I led my friends to buy the Chaos Scrolls and got banned (did he get banned)? He basically trusted you during the situation. If he was independently not influenced by anyone, there is a greater chance that he would've thought something was up. Whether he would've still bought it or not is not my decision, but you have to admit you influenced him to buy those Chaos Scrolls.

Yup he was banned. It was on a mule too, but I do not deny that it was my fault. We are both pretty lax about this situation because he IS one of those people I was mentioning, hacker since beta. He really doesn't care that he threw 75m on the scrolls on a mule. Again he asked and I told him that I just thought it was cheap. We are both pretty quick to act so if someone told me a rare item was cheap I would probably buy it immediately, regardless of who they are.
My previous post was just trying to imply that it IS possible someone did not have a firm grasp on the situation at hand. Unless you ARE a merchant or a hardcore player who should know whats going on, it was very possible that you just bought them out of instinct. Also, some children do play this game, for example my cousin. He is an idiot sometimes but he is completely oblivious to the marketing aspect of this game. If it's cheap he will buy it, without a second thought.

I don't see an announcement about this on the Nexon site, where is this from?

This is how i knew 100% nexon would have act based on past game breaking exploits actions. after the Bf glitch that I particpated in on my mage and I gained 3 lvls, I thought nexon wouldn't ban anyone for something they messed up on but my friends got banned. from then any game breaking glitch/exploit or anything that seemed out of the ordinary in my view will have some type of backlash. Htp glitch, hammer glitch, pyramid Buff glitch.
How many game breaking hacks has nexon let slide? Yea during beta everyone was doing hacks cause maple was new back then no one cared about maple back then imo. No one was thinking of the future of the game back then. How many of those players that hacked during beta is lvl 200 now and Respected?
You know when nexon said that people will be banned for the pq buff and it will be fixed soon, people still tried to find themselves justified when they got banned. I won't lie I didn't listen and each time I did the buff i was waiting for a ban..
thing is people would have still bought the chaps scrolls no matter what, and we would be here discussing it.
Anyone can play dumb 'i didnt know' 'inI this situation reason nexon won't unban anyone imo.
@cynic do you see the merchant above my post? That is the group i'm aiming at. If someone who just started maple didn't know about it then find fight for your ban. But not merchants i saw a merchant complainig about not getting enough chaos scrolls.

This is exactly what I meant. While hackers run rampant, people who abused the glitch that NEXON created were banned. The people I knew were too busy hacking empty maps while others were killing BF, I thought that was hilarious.

I don't think it's fair to say that NEXON wasn't thinking about the future of their game back then.

I personally don't know anyone who was banned from this. IIRC many large guilds decided to use it to their advantage and none of them were banned.

That's a contradiction. If people were going to buy them no matter what then it would have been possible that they really didn't know. I feel like their bans were just too quick. What if someone bought 1000 of them and used them all up, I don't think they would be banned since they didn't posses any during the server check. Most of their previous "bans" I think were just rumors (except for the BF glitch, but at least no one was permabanned). I feel like people just started those rumors because they didn't think it was fair, or hackers started the rumors so people would slowly stop (decreasing the chance of NEXON discovering the problem). For example, if EVERYONE could dc hack, there would be a problem, but if only a select few knew then NEXON would just brush it off. Because of this, I believe that it was impossible to know that people had a permaban waiting for them after the maintenance

Wait. So what happened to your mage that actually participated in the Bf glitch? Did it get banned? Beause you kind of did this funny thing where you started talking about personally breaking the rules and then transitioned into your friends getting punished. It's like me stating, "Hey everyone. I robbed a candy store. My friends got caught and were sent to lollipop prison." If you didn't get caught then that contradicts your argument because you clearly got away scotch free despite knowing 100% what would happen to the community.

I respect lots of people. Level 200 Maple Story players are not among that list. Legit or not.

If merchants hadn't been doing their businesses for benefits.. has it always been for charity? I think not. They do it for benefits, those benefits come from Chaos Scrolls (as well as other items), those Chaos Scrolls are obviously illegit => They benefit from a glitch, knowingly or not, even though it takes a HUGE idiot not to know*.
And yes, I quite agree that merchanting hacked items should be bannable, each and every one of the instances. But Nexon's habitual failure doesn't change or justify your or anyone's breach of the codes of conduct. You committed the crime, if they get to you, you're done, otherwise, consider yourself lucky. Do it at your own risk, it's always been like this.
* debatable, although I quite believe we're all unanimous on this matter.

I want people to keep discussing this and discussing it more on the nexon forums the more we disscuse it the more its not able to just be pushed under the rug and they will have to change something. With the BF glitch a warning was given prior to baning people, and they clearly knew there was an issue when they scheduled the server check yet they let people continue to list items and dig there own graves. It's sneaky and a punishment is fine but theres no reason to perm ban people when no one ever got in trouble for the sacks that were being glitched a day earlier and all those scrolls, the +52 HTP, and the pyramid buff.

...People are saying nexon is in the wrong for banning them. For something they choose to do. Cool. What of the x number of bishops who took opportunity of the 4x around the same time that they leveled too quickly and got blamed for hacking bigfoot despite that they've never seen it? Many of them had perma bans. That isn't the only incident of false positives.

There's absolutely no reason you require a "warning" before they ban you for doing something you already know you're not supposed to be doing. The fact there's a rule against doing it in the first place is your warning.
This insistence that the universe give you unlimited second chances is completely unrealistic and demonstrates just how far people will go to redefine the world in their favor - It's not "fair" for you to experience consequences for your actions but it's "fair" to everyone else to allow people who have not participated in abuse to be second-class citizens. Contrary to popular belief "fair" does not mean "favors me".
This thread has exhausted useful dialogue on the subject.
