How was your day today? - DotA 2 Edition
Started playing ranked last night. Games were ok-ish and I thought I'd continue this morning, which apparently was a bad idea. Queues take forever so early, and it was like 10 or 11 am already... Regardless, I see no major difference in both ranked and nonranked games and it'll be fun (bit disappointing too) to see my "skill" in numbers.

The one thing that has bothered me lately, not even related to ranked games, is playing supports. I'm trying to get wards, sentries and dust as soon as they're off cooldown to give my team vision but if my team isn't getting towers and I spend all my time baby sitting and zoning out, without getting kills, I just end with boots and 2 or 3 branches forever until something big happens. Sometimes I feel like I can't even finish some bracers Sad
What do I do in those cases? Asking others to buy wards for me doesn't work, asking for gank isn't always a possibility and I don't know if not buying wards so that I get something to boost my survivability is a good thing to do. Either option feels bad, if I'm an easy kill it's bad while if there's no vision it's also bad Sad
Finally I played a match today.
Damn.. does it look way different with everything at max settings? It seems gorgeous <3

It was one hell of a game. As Warlock I was stuck being more of a hard support role, and the early to mid game was plain hell. Puck + Silencer pretty much gave all of us a hard time since our lineup was weak to Silence. However on the flip side, their team is more or less all magic damage, and we had an Anti-Mage so it was all about holding out until he got 6 slotted and a BKB. We turned it around and megacreeped them for the win.

In a way both lineups counter each other, and it felt nice to learn how to make use of Warlock's E.

Yeah there is very little difference between ranked and non-ranked games unless you're at a very specific range(around 3-4k rating) where everyone is super try-hard, above 4k people go back to just doing whatever(see: Pro player's when they play).
If you lack gold for wards and you feel the wards are important and there isn't a gank opportunity, just go pull creeps or kill stuff in jungle. People are too stuck in the SUPPORT ONLY BROWN BOOTS mindset, nothing wrong with supports grabbing some farm.

I should be below 3k at the moment. I'd be pleasantly surprised if I was at 3k or above, which I doubt since people I play with aren't really try hard... and we all just play poorly.
So I managed to convice a friend to try out Dota 2.
She's a 2-year old LoL player. So she's very experimented on the moba games.
Yet she still gets frustrated about the creep deny, but she still enjoys playing with Akasha. Any tips for her in general from anyone who plays both?
Oh yeah, and she loves the courier mechanic.
If she plays queen she should stop getting frustrated over denies and start making people frustrated because of denies.
QoP the queen of ruining fun in lanes.

But tips in general? Learning how heroes work so she wont be too surprised by playing against things she has not tried before herself. And focusing on playing more than just one hero, just for some diversity.
Yeah, well I guess I'll tell her to play training matches with bots in medium so they don't deny.
Also, any tips for anyone who's gotta play a few matches of LoL?
That was part of the deal I had to agree with her. D:
Just finished my 10 calibration ranked games and guess what?

I'm cry. My MMR is roughly ~2600. Sad

**I had my first Mirana game today; in ranked. Died once in laning phase from a panic Leap, but farmed up a Manta and Deso and landed some good arrows. Mirana = hnnnnng love at first sight?

Last night was so incredibly depressing. I felt I failed you guys in playing a carry all 3 games. Been doing the Last-Hit practice for at least 3-4 hours on different heroes. Been able to average around 30-35 CS in 10 minutes on various carries. 40-45 if I picked a melee carry with a Quelling Blade, and got really lucky with Kunkka and got 54 CS in 10 minutes.

It wasn't really your fault. It was Adam's smurf and bad luck with matchmaking that ruined it for us.
Riki in the first game was clearly new to the game, 3rd game it was the same with Riki and Storm. 2nd game is all our fault since we asked for really weird picks, as captain I didn't oppose to any of it and last pick it randomed... which could've been a worse random but it was still pretty bad since the other team already had BH.
Something i find to be incredibly interesting is the difference between the success of a hero depending on the tier it is played in.
Certain heroes like shadow demon and rubick do a lot better at the higher tiers but a lot worse at the lower tiers while heroes like riki and sniper do a lot better at the lower tiers whilst they do a lot worse in the higher tiers.

It's a thing that makes me wonder what dota would look like if it were to balance according to all tiers.
Things would either be a lot more bland, or we would have a larger pool of heroes that truly are useless at the high tiers.
I'm annoyed at my losing streak and my last game I started doing dumb shi't out of frustration. It wasn't that dumb, a clockwerk using hook with his whole team behind can't be dumb but when they can't coordinate with you it's the same as going 1vs5 and it becomes retarded.
I'm not sure what pisses me more right now; people who don't know how to play the heroes they pick, ignoring chat or being stupid. Stupid as in getting caught in the same spot 3 times in a row, tp'ing into 5man because "I thought you were coming" and that kind of bullshi't. Worst part today is that the only game I say "f'uck it, I'm playing a carry/something that needs farm this game!" and then everyone else picks a pineappleing carry... and the ones who get the most farm during lane phase do nothing the rest of the f'ucking game.
I wish I could carry with Jakiro and other supports; even if I do alright I can only help others dish big damage Sad

EDIT: Awesome, my winrate went from 55 to 53% in two days Sad
And I'm about to break my lose streak record too Sad

Hmmmm that didn't happen until I started playing ranked. I was getting 3 lose streak at most, even before ranked was even an option o.o

We would get League then.
Having up and downs.
Completetly throwed away a game as Storm spirit.
Shining with my luck on Ogre.
And I could finally get a game with a positive ratio with WynonaRider too bad we lost, but I was pretty happy with myself.

I'm only having downs, can I join you and leech off your ups? Big Grin
Storm Spirit is deceptively hard to play though, managing mana while still getting into fights, disabling the right target and dealing as much damage as possible with all spells (including r) +Overload and all that while avoiding disables on yourself and still save mana to escape if necessary is stupidly hard to accomplish. The other thing is that he needs farm, a lot of it and it's kinda hard to get all he needs just waiting for pickoffs. Meaning, you need to know when to farm in lane and when to go for a gank/kill and not get behind... which is the hardest for me. I either farm too much or I spend too much time waiting for kills.

Also, WR is one of the most satisfying heroes to play when things go right... but when things don't go your way, at all, it's actually kinda shocking if you manage to pull a positive ratio.
