Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion
I feel like people need to wait before going ballistic with this discovery. We haven't even had any competitive events yet. The game hasn't even been out for a full freaking week either.

If there's one thing I'm sure of in the smash community, it's that every change from melee is sakurai attempting to destroy any competitive aspects in the game.

I really wish people would actually give it a few damn months for the meta game to be more solidly shaped and more info to be discovered/confirmed before going apeshit like this. It's like people are just DIVING at whatever chance they can to try and compare this game to brawl. All on the stupid basis that this game isn't melee. Tongue

That's why it's so funny. All those people who were originally saying it was going to be "Melee 2.0" are now probably the same people raging over this change and it's just hilarious.

I love how dramatic people are about Smash.

In Brawl you are punished for aggressive play and Smash 4 seems to be that way too. It doesn't mean Smash 4 can't be competitive... it isn't Melee and it's a shame Smash 4 is being compared to its predecessors.

This vectoring is obviously meta-game changing if it allows you to survive longer. It's why survival DI is so important in the other games.

What a shame it was SB of all people to bring this to everybody's attention.

The smash commute has always been so touchy. One feature like this is enough for them to drop the game altogether.

'It's different from Melee! Brawl 2.0!'

Lamato Wrote:So apparently DI (Directional Influence) now works differently in that you can still change trajectory of where you're smashed (probably nerfed slightly, but it's still there) but you can also now change how far or how short you want to be launched, with this comes a new term "Vectoring" or Vector Influence.

More in-depth analysis in this thread: http://smashboards.com/threads/vectoring...-4.368780/

How do you guys feel about this? Many are complaining how it will drag out matches longer than necessary and others have even promptly relabeled the game as being Brawl 2.0 due to it apparently hindering SSB64-like comboing. I personally do care about this change since this will affect how people will play competitively, however, I'm willing to let time take it's course as people find more practical uses for it.

This bugs me a little, mainly this part:

Quote:Now that you understand all of that, throw it all out the window for Smash 4. Instead of DI, a different mechanic is present.

This part isn't true at all, DI still exists. I've done it a million times out of habit and it even has an official name in the tips called "Hitstun Shuffling". He even mentions it in the article, probably due to an edit. He states it's 'Smash DI' but I think it can be interpreted as either DI or SDI.

In either case, 'Vectoring' seems like a fine mechanic. In fact, I'd wager that it's much better than DI. Newer players tend to hold the opposite direction of being launched rather than perpendicular. Even to this day when you mention DI to a player and they're explicitly explained to it they interpret it as being the opposite direction rather than perpendicular. I see absolutely no issue with this and rather enjoy the change. I do think the interpretation of its effects are overblown though. It makes it seem like you have total control over the knockback values etc. Instead you have control over knockback, which is useful IMO. I don't see this as a bad thing and the conclusions in the thread that make it seem like this ruin combos bugs me because I don't see this to be the case and the video presented doesn't show this either.

On the topic of having 'SSB64-like comboing'. ABSOLUTELY NO GAME OUTSIDE OF SMASH 64 HAS HAD SSB64 COMBOING. Anyone who uses this point is an idiot and has probably never played Smash. Anyone who labels the game as 'Brawl 2.0' is also an idiot whose opinion should be ignored.

We have. There was a tournament hosted by ClashTournaments.

The people who are like that are very annoying. I typically tend to ignore them because they're nothing but people who want to complain at every change. Mew2King is one those melee shitposters unfortunately. Most other competitive players just state that they prefer X game but M2K goes full berserk mode and insults games that aren't Melee. It's a shame and quite frankly silly.

Vectoring seems like the most legitimate way to reintroduce crouch canceling.

Sakurai Wrote:Most of the games in the Fire Emblem series have a different unique setting and have fields without much height, so it was hard to narrow down what venues to focus on. Castle Siege and Colosseum are two stages that aren't exclusive to specific games in the franchise.

Yesss Castle Seige

Another new mechanic was discovered, it's being called the 'Rage Effect'. Basically, when your character has a higher damage %, you will knock opponents further back. Seems pretty interesting!

The demo will be out pretty soon.

In regards to unlocking characters, don't you have to unlock the custom moves? Isn't that a considerable task in itself?

Much bigger than just unlocking the characters.

Every character gets 3 sets of customizable moves (12 total, 3 for each B action). You unlock these during Classic Mode, Smash Run, and All Stars Mode by playing, and in Smash Run they drop as items similar to trophies in Brawl's campaign.

But customization items also include several other things, like Mii Fighter outfits, and general stat booster items that can also be configured in your setup. So there's a ton of customization stuff that can drop, and because of that it can take a while to get them all.

I keep seeing streams of Little Mac. Dude is crazy strong if he doesn't get knocked in the air. He's probably the one character that I'm most interested in playing right now.
