Clean Slate Glitch?
Cyanne Wrote:I honestly have no idea where you people who are saying that it's not a glitch are coming from. It says plainly when you fail a clean slate with a white scroll that "since the white scroll was used, the item's upgrade slots remained intact." Well, no, the the item's upgrade slots did not remain intact, they increased by one. If that isn't enough, white scrolls were created before clean slates, cold protection, and spikes scrolls came out, meaning from a programming standpoint, it's easier to program the scroll to add a slot upon failure rather than actually "protecting" the item as both would achieve the same effect before the introduction of scrolls that did not take away a slot upon failure. Also, these new scrolls originated in kMS, which does not have white scrolls and thus would not have had this problem.

There are other things in the text that are wrong i.e. Meso guard was wrong for the longest time wasn't it? I guess the way it works now means it's a glitch. If that's not the right skill, there's at least one other text-based thing in-game that's wrong.

HayO Wrote:edit; wonder how some1 found out about this though. I mean its not like its smart to try out a 3% clean slate with a white scroll I wonder why they did this.

I was confirming this with a friend and he told me this did exist from when both scrolls were in the game at the same time. Only a few people knew about it. Now that there have been threads on at least 3 major forums, a lot more people know about it. If the threads were never created, the secret would have remained a secret.
@Stereo

Checking monster's HP is pretty linear, it goes from X to 0. Checking attack counts is a bit trickier IMO, as you need to identify the period where someone attacks frequently. It is analogous to the picking the highest sum sub-array from a given array. IIRC the best cost of that is nlog(n).

Overall, most of the solutions are bandaids. They need to come up with something concrete yet efficient (which I personally have little hope that Nexon would do). Generally, whatever they came up with before, it hurts legits more than hackers.
Indeed.
Anti-bot? Hacks bypass it, others get to jump around before they can attack again.
Breath? Hacks bypass it, others get to waste time finding a safe spot.
Damage cap? Hacks bypass it (though they still can't go over 250k or what their damage range allows), others of certain class high levels get shafted at bosses.
etc >_>

Just bin it into 10 second intervals, then if 4 in a row add up to more than 60 attacks (or whatever applies to the class), disconnect them. Each time you hit the 10 second mark, subtract the oldest bin from the running total, set it to 0, and start filling it again. It's only a couple operations more than doing b++ every attack.

Even if you're lagging, you disconnect after ~30 seconds anyway, so there's no way to accidentally lag and then send 70+ attacks at once.

The real problem on wz edits is how little the client actually verifies. I mean a couple patches ago people were patching the wrong map info, and it didn't even realise. There's just a version ID in the file, and if it's right then it's good to go. If it actually checked that each number it pulled was matching the server's (eg. send a packet describing the numbers of each skill the first time you use it after logging in) then it would make it a lot harder for people to edit the WZ files and get away with it. Spoofing encrypted packets is not as easy as editing the right bytes in a local file.

I really was deciding against posting it here, but I guess the public deserves to know about this.

1) No flaming on the extent of my curiosity.
2) Don't call me a glitcher.
3) I don't want to hear things like "Why didn't you do it on a x atk PAC?"
4) Don't tell me I wasted my meso.

I want to thank the following people for allowing this to happen:
1) benben1314. I bought the the Shoe Spike scroll for 15m from her.
2) ldyxslik. He lent me 40% of the meso I needed to purchase the white scroll.
3) gotriceV2. He was nice enough to trade me his Cold Protection Scroll for my Shoe Spike.
4) Floated. She used a smega for me allowing me to sell the rest of my items to purchase the White Scroll.
5) potter6. He sold me the White Scroll.

Now it's been proven. One can have an unlimited amount of slots on their capes and shoes supposing they had access to an infinite amount of white scrolls.
Harrisonized Wrote:Now it's been proven. One can have an unlimited amount of slots on their capes and shoes supposing they had access to an infinite amount of white scrolls.

...okay, now this glitch has officially entered dangerous territory. This allows for items to have more slots than they are supposed to.

Think what a person could do with a mass amount of whites + cleans/cold or spike protection... Have you tried scrolling that newly acquired 6th slot yet? I want to see a +6 cape that is supposed to have 5 slots.
Harrisonized Wrote:Now it's been proven. One can have an unlimited amount of slots on their capes and shoes supposing they had access to an infinite amount of white scrolls.

Not just yet, until there is a cape with +9 or a shoe with +8 there still maybe a limit.

No. It's impossible.

A fire must burn out once it's fuel has been exhausted. Even the best of merchants won't be able to get that much out of it as the white scroll disappears each time. Also, the only things that this works for are capes and shoes. Chaos not only are expensive, they're 60%, and they CAN take away stats.
FelixTM Wrote:Have you tried scrolling that newly acquired 6th slot yet? I want to see a +6 cape that is supposed to have 5 slots.
No. I can't afford ANYTHING right now. I'm dirt poor with only 100K left thinking of what I should do... I might go hunt bosses later.

I've going to 100% it. This sounds laughable, but really I just wanted to see if the +6 was possible and my goal has been accomplished, I want nothing more. Note that here, I hypothesize that it's possible for the 100% to FAIL. The reason for this is that the game might somehow realize that a +6 cape is not possible and then fail the scroll to compensate, making it +5 once again.
MetaSeraphim Wrote:Not just yet, until there is a cape with +9 or a shoe with +8 there still maybe a limit.
I doubt anyone else will try on a YAC or a Snowshoe, therefore that question would remain unanswered. Hell, I was ridiculed for using it on my Purple AC right after I made it.

Also, I'm guessing there is no limit.
1) +6 is possible on a Purple AC, which allows 5 slots.
2) Perhaps +9 will be possible on a YAC which allows 8 slots.
The two are very comparable, and 1 is already proven, therefore 2 should be proven through similarity.
Harrisonized Wrote:Now it's been proven. One can have an unlimited amount of slots on their capes and shoes supposing they had access to an infinite amount of white scrolls.

well, maybe. it might be that they set "max slots" on a cape at 8, since yellow capes are there. Still, this makes things ridiculous. Even if it is 8, can you imagine this, on pacs, combined with chaos scrolling.

Sadly, it isn't impossible. Duping could and would take this glitch to a whole new level. Let's just hope it's patched before that happens, though.

And please share if and when it's +6. I'm quite curious if this really works. Maybe it won't let you scroll the slot? I highly doubt it...but I can hope.

:f6:

nice :O i would've liked to seen it done on a clean yellow adventurer cape though!

everyone who is complaining about this i dont see the problem with it... it's just another way to further customize your items and make yourself stronger; there's no reason why someone who spent 300mil+ on a white scroll shouldn't have an extra slot on their shoe/cape. Cool

I was ridiculed since I made it.

Do eet. If the 100% fails, we're safe. If it works, we may now have a problem, since nothing says madness like a +11/+12 on overalls, or +10 on shoes. I highly doubt anyone would buy it since they will be paranoid of getting banned for the item. I know I would.
FelixTM Wrote:Sadly, it isn't impossible. Duping could and would take this glitch to a whole new level. Let's just hope it's patched before that happens, though.
Duping = hacking. Note that I didn't change anything in order to obtain the extra slot, therefore I didn't hack. Hacking is a bannable offense. If I were Nexon, I would just consider getting them normally legit.

Yea, sure thing.

Also, why would you hope? It's obvious that if this were kept a feature, Nexon would undoubtedly make tons of money through gacha tickets. When the last of the white scrolls are consumed by this type of scrolling, people will be driven to gach.

I'll relate this to the oil industry. Everyone who owns a car depends on the gas market. What if the gas were to run out? Then people would do anything to obtain the gas.

I'm not afraid. I just increased Nexon's profit for the next few days, they really have no reason to backfire on me.

And this only works for capes and shoes.
Wow, good job going for it even though it drove you into debt o_o

The final theory to prove, really, is whether or not capes and shoes can go beyond 8 and 6 slots respectively (Please don't be crazy enough to do this to your cape, Harrisonized xD).

Because of the mass cost that comes along with white scroll + cape cold/shoe spike'ing things, infinite slots on things isn't really practical due to chaos scrolls. The only thing this is dangerous for are purple capes (or yellow for int) because chaos scrolls can't really be practically used on them, or at least to the extent of att vs. primary stat for non-magician classes.

7 slots for shoes, you're forgetting snowshoes.

I never said anything about you hacking or even your legitimacy. Don't get defensive over nothing.

And are you seriously still trying to argue that this is a "feature"? Honestly? You've just proved it's a glitch. Even by your obscure standards you have to agree... That cape is set in stone as having 5 slots. You have now found a way to break that barrier and give it 6. You can't be so naive as to truly believe Nexon intended it to work that way...
MetaSeraphim Wrote:7 slots for shoes, you're forgetting snowshoes.

Oh woops, that was a typo (are there even any 6-slot clean shoes? O_o).
don't worry guys. even if a hacker manages to dupe 1000 white scrolls or something... the cape cold protection scroll still has a % chance of landing, which would limit the amount of slots it could have.

Nah, I'll be quite busy the next week. I have to somehow make 170m in exactly one week. >_>

Dunno how I'll manage that but I will be VERY VERY busy.

I don't see how it's dangerous for purple capes. Nobody would really pay 475m (400m for white scroll + 75m for cape cold) for an extra 2 int on their cape at a 60% rate.

Honestly, you'd get better out of your money chaosing a 3INT 8magic 4slot Purple Cape.

Uh, no. You can still scroll cape cold on a cape if you land it.

In case you're wondering, my cape already had cape protection scrolled onto it.

So you mean to tell me a hacker can dupe white scrolls/cape cold scrolls/100% cape luk scrolls, get 500 slots on a 4att pink cape, and make a 500luk 4att pac?

Oh pomegranateEek
