Skyrim thread
Ah, forgot about Chameleon. Getting to 100% Chameleon in Oblivion (which is quite easy, by the way) was enough to make you a god.

Oblivion didn't have Enchanting as a skill, you could just enchant anything with everything as long as you had a good enough soul gem and knew the spell effect, either through a spell, greater power, or was wearing an equip with that effect. You could also create your own spells.

I can understand why they removed custom weapon enchantments and spell making in Skyrim, as those were absolute gamebreakers in Oblivion (although one could argue that Oblivion's level scaling was ridicluous to the point where you needed such broken spells and weapon enchantments if you decided to go anywhere past Level 30). Make a spell with 100% Weakness to Magic/100% weakness to element for 5 seconds, and then go to town with your offensive spells (if you already didn't have elemental damage on the same spell). Broken weapon enchantments usually had that plus elemental damage on the same weapon, and if you were especially cruel, 1 second of Paralysis (which is more like 3 seconds because the enemy has to go through the 'getting up' animation).

Not so sure about armor though. In Oblivion, we didn't have the ability to put offensive enchantments on certain pieces of armor (beyond 'Fortify Strength/Agility/Skill' which didn't make much of a difference at all). I'm pretty sure we couldn't put more than a single effect on self-enchanted armor in Oblivion. Even then, Level 18+ Sigil Stones or armor that you find in dungeons usually provided better bonuses for armor in comparison to Grand/Black Soul Gems anyways.

(There was one really ridiculous ring in Oblivion that you could find that was called the Mundane Ring. It gave 50% Resist Magic and 25% Reflect Spell. Bretons were completely immune to magic after they wore that. It was random loot, but if you waited until you were something like Level 18 before doing one of the Main Quests, one of the enemies you fight is guaranteed to wear it.)

In Skyrim, it seems to be the other way around. Now that we can't stick 'weakness to magic/element' on weapons anymore, now it's armor enchantments that are broken.

All of Skyrim's quest lines feel shorter than Oblivion's quest lines. I was rather disappointed that the Bards' College didn't have much more to do after that initial quest. However, the quests themselves (well, the legitimate non-miscellaneous ones, anyways) are pretty varied. The actual dungeon design is also a hell of a lot better.

Agreed. The quest lines feels way too short. I can rush through Thieves Guild quests from beginning to end in less than 4-5 hours if I know exactly where to go and fast travel to every location (or a location that's near the targeted quest marker's location). It's really a cake walk. Even the main quest itself wasn't overly compelling, I didn't feel a strong sense of pride and accomplishment, meh.

My friends and I are collectively trying to get all the achievements... we're at 38/50 so far.

I wonder what kind of scaling this game has. I'm at Level 47 now, and I'm starting to run into enemy archers that can take off half of my health with a single arrow. It's gotten so bad that heading into bandit forts intending to melee the heck out of everything isn't that much of a good option anymore, at least if I'm not sneaking.

Yet when I kill them, I see nothing in their inventory (aside from advanced arrows such as Elven/Glass) that should allow them to dish out that kind of damage against me. Is it like the game is considering some of the enemy archers to be at Master level or something? I know it's not me being unlucky enough to be hit by crit arrows (if enemies can land crits on you in the first place), unless I really am that unlucky.

For reference, I have 300 health (50 of that fortified), and 160 defense. I also have something like 110% bow damage on the rest of my equips.

On my alt, I'm getting killed more inside dungeons by bandits and Draugr Overloads more than anything else. If I sneak + bow/arrow method, I do crit, but it's like a minor scratch to them lol. I focus most of my points upon leveling up to Magicka + Stamina too, and rarely health, since I want to challenge myself a bit more (that and I use a lot of Destruction on my alt). On my main, I haven't had too many issues, but if it makes a difference, main is like lv 52 or something, and my alt is like 27.

I think it just depends on your playstyle. I read somewhere that the game changes how the enemies approaches you or something based on how you play your character. So if you're like me and use mostly close-range melee attacks, ie: dual-wielding blades, you're going to get wrecked by mages that are strong with destruction.

EDIT: Also, out of curiosity, what kind of mods are you guys using for your Skyrim? I'm personally using 2 mods at the moment:

a) TES V Savegame Manager
b) 4GB Skyrim (enables Skyrim to use up all 4 GB of your RAM, I have 8 gigs total here, so it's great since it won't eat up all of my mem)
c) No Helmet Mod
d) 4uDIKs RETEX (going to be getting this, nude mod lol)

No mods here. Going to fiddle around with the vanilla game some more before I start looking at mods. If there's a mod that lets me customise my armor though, I'd grab that in a heartbeat. Always disliked how Glass armor had to be strictly green, I was hoping that they'd change it to light blue like what they did with the Chillrend sword in Oblivion.

I decided to start a new character today, because you can only do so much by sneaking around with a 200 damage bow all the time, with like 20 perk points in various other skills that aren't even being put to good use. (As in, high level archery is broken, but everything else is too weak to even consider using at my current level.)

Giving magic a second chance with this character, and I'm having a blast with conjuring weapons and summoning stuff. Also specializing in frost destruction magic. Holy crap, Conjuration levels up like a rocket when you're summoning bound swords. Barely level 10 and I can already summon a Frost Atronach if I wanted to. I wish shock magic was more useful, although if it did full damage to magicka in the same way that frost does full damage to stamina, it'd be far further down the category of being more annoying to the player than the actual enemies themselves.

I'm using "Killable Children" mod, and that's about it. I plan to get some armor-related mods down the line, becase I dislike how a lot of the end-game stuff looks, but I haven't bothered yet.

If you want a different feel to some of the armors, without having anything game-changing, there are specific mods that basically re-skins the originals. Nightingale Prime is one of them, and I've personally tried it. It's a really good mod IF you intend on using the Nightingale quite a bit. There's ones that changes how Ebony armor looks too, etc. I'm still waiting until someone makes a mod that gives you maid outfits.

Oh, the game actually gets somewhat difficult later on? I was wondering since so far it's so incredibly easy to take everything out by just mashing my attack button, maybe the occasional spell/shout to add some spice or something. I haven't encountered anything even remotely difficult yet, but I think it's because I'm still not very far at all. I think I'm just Lv20 or so.

One of my favorite attacks is the Flame(not sure on the exact name) skill, where you basically use flamethrower with your hands. Firebolt's insane-o-range is useful at times also.

My friend told me about a mission in the thieves guild, it was about poison skeevers and their master.... probably the funniest quest in Skyrim.

After installing a ton of mods, I honestly lost count how much by now. Guess I should get a mod manager like everyone else or something. Here's my main character (Thanatos) now:

For those that are playing Skyrim, who did you side with? Stormcloaks or Legions? If you choose both (one for main, and one for alt), which one was your overall favorite? I personally chose Stormcloaks, because I hated how at the beginning of Skyrim, the Legion tried to kill me. Though I've done this from both perspectives, I think I'd have to favor the Stormcloaks. Especially after what General Tullius said at the final battle (if you join the Legion), you'll realize how stupid some people in the Legion can really be . .

Sauce? If you said what I think you just said, I'm going to be expecting bugs galore. ` -` I can't possibly see Skyrim being anything close to an MMO, that'd be terrible lol.

Early stages. Everyone appears as horse spectres and their movements are a bit glitchy.

Huh, interesting. I'll wait until there's more development til I'd attempt at trying though, meh. I just have no idea how an MMO Skyrim would work, because let's say you're doing the Dark Brotherhood quests, and you have to kill a specific character.. if 'you' were to kill it, it might mess it up for another user. Unless they did it so that everybody sees different NPCs, but that's weird. That'd probably affect dungeon spawns too. That's interesting that people already started on that mod though. Looking forward to future updates.

I don't want to side with either of them, i dislike the legion and the stormcloaks are fucking racists.
I wish there was an option to just screw them and rule skyrim on your own.
