Sounds like hag-type sleep paralysis. I've never had terrifying visual hallucinations while in that state -- non-visual terror, yes, and non-terrifying visuals -- but just thinking about the possibility of that kind of hallucination creeps me out big-time. I can freak myself out plenty fine without additional help from other kinds of brain weirdness.
//edit: Or do I mean night terrors, or are they one and the same? I'm leaning towards no on the latter, but I'm too lazy to go ask Mama Wikipedia rn.
