Kenpachi was always looking to fight the strongest characters, so it makes sense that he sought out the King o' Quincys.
I think killing HIM was a bad idea, he has too much pull in the main story. He's rukia's brother, and ichigo's first genuine rival. Kenpachi is most likely going to die as well, because those two are considered the most OP in the gotei.
