Scoundrel. Maverick. Dangerous. Charming. These are but a few of the words used to describe John Barricade, of the world-famous Barricade Bros. Treasure Hunting Co. Son of a museum curator and retired archeologist, John and his brother were fed tales of mystic relics, ancient fables and the dangers of the unknown. After earning their degrees in History, the brothers made a promise - to discover the truth of every single legend, no matter no long it took. But first they had to actually find a way to allow themselves to search forever - which meant finding the Fountain of Youth. After a long, 3-year search, they finally discovered the spring of eternal life, deep within South America. After this unprecedented discovery (and a host of lawsuits from angry pharmaceutical companies), they embarked on a long string of discoveries - King Solomon's Mines, the mystery of Stonehenge, Captain Kidd's gold horde, the trove of the Knights Templar, the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine, the Sphinx Chamber, and countless Spanish galleons. However, the brothers noticed something with every discovery - a strange set of relics that seemed to connect with one another - an ankh from the Sphinx Room matching a staff in King Solomon's Mines, a ring from Captain Kidd's horde connecting to dagger found in the trove of the Knights Templar, and many more. Vowing to discover the truth behind these multiple relics, the brothers split up, vowing to unite once more when either had discovered the secret. Now, after striking a deal with the Glimmer Man to send him any Versal Materia he finds, John creates blueprints for these relics, hoping to find clues to bring him closer to the truth.

Umaru

[Some Taru Children were chosen by the Jungle Spirit to become her disciples, to teach others the ways of the jungle. These Taru would be given an Umaru, and trained to become shamans for the tribe. These staves were attuned to the jungle, and allowed the Taru shaman to draw upon the natural energies of his surroundings. If you find favor with the Jungle Spirit and come into possession of a Spirit Feather (see below), Corrine can send you on a Spirit Quest to allow your Umaru to attain its more powerful Umarusuma form, and then ultimately its Umarumagna form.]

akha

[The akha is a Taru bow, like the one Corine wields, in its most basic form. It is crafted from the Gobo tree found deep in the Krakian Jungle, which is sacred to the Jungle Spirit. The wood from the Gobo tree is so hard and resilient that even sharpened stone cannot cut thought it. Before a Taru bowyer could begin crafting an Akha from Gobo wood, he would first have to "persuade" the wood to work with him though prayers to the Jungle Spirit, only then, would the wood allow itself to be shaped. If you find favor with the Jungle Spirit and come into possession of a Spirit Feather, Corine can send you on a Spirit Quest to allow your Akha to attain its more powerful Akhasuma form, and then ultimately its Akhamagna form.]

[The Maku is the traditional Taru hunting dagger. It was rarely used as a weapon, but this dows not mean it is not effective as one, quite the contrary. In fact, one of the most exalted Taru Chieftains, Teharu, favored the Maku as his weapon, over all the other ranged weapons traditionally preferred by the Taru. If you find favor with the Jungle Spirit and come into possession of a Spirit Feather, Corine can send you on a Spirit Quest to allow your Maku to attain its more powerful Makusuma form.]

Even though some historians would say that the Taru were primitive, Taru objects such as the Xaru prove these historians wrong. Just look at the ingenious design of this crossbow: powerful, but compact and lightweight! Even with simple materials, the Taru were able to build very efficient tools such as this weapon. If only more people would do their research before drawing hasty conclusions.]

kuma

[The Kuma is a wrist-mounted projectile slinger, similar to the claws that thieves now use. This weapon allowed the Taru brave to keep his or her hands free, while still having access to quick ranged attack. It was originally made to throw mahekis, which are sharpened obsidian flakes, but it can be retrofitted to throw the stars that are commonly availavle today. If you find favor with the Jungle Spirit and come into possession of a Spirit Feather, Corine can send you on a Spirit Quest to allow your Kuma to attain its more powerful Kumasuma form.]

A ranger who believes she is a descendant of the ancient Taru tribe, Corine has come to NLC with her pet orange tiger, Khafre, to learn more about her ancestors. Be sure to seek her out to learn of her search for the Taru. If you happen to come across any ancient Taru relics, she is the one to talk to.
